PO5 4PA - Tel: 023 9287 4523 - [email protected] Company Registration No. 01590132 - Registered Charity No. 1106685 The Art Space Portsmouth Graduate Residency Award 2015 Information and Guidelines Art Space Portsmouth invites applications for the Graduate Residency Award 2015. Funded by the University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth City Council and Art Space Portsmouth. The ASP Graduate Residency Award is open to any graduate or postgraduate from the University of Portsmouth who graduated within the past 3 academic years (2012-2015), and whose work fits into a visual fine art context. Applications are welcome from artists working in all mediums and from all courses in the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries. The recipient must have finished their studies before the start date: Monday 9th November 2015 and be able to be in the studio for at least two days a week for six months, ending on Sunday 8th May 2016. The Award: The 6-month residency aims to support emerging artists through studio provision, mentoring and access to a wider network of professional artists, focussing on the transition from working in a University context to setting up a professional visual arts practice. This opportunity provides some of the fundamental building blocks to setting up an art practice. The selected artist will be offered: A sponsored studio space for 6 months at Art Space Portsmouth* One yearʼ s full membership to Art Space Portsmouth including all benefits A two-week exhibition at GASP, Gallery Art Space Portsmouth Six mentoring sessions delivered by relevant Art Space Portsmouth members An individual artistʼs page on the ASP website for one year A materials and production budget (£150 maximum) The opportunity to participate in the annual Open Studios weekend (as an off-site member in June 2016) A public artistʼs talk / presentation at Art Space Portsmouth *The studio is located on the 1st floor of the ASP building. It is 6 metres long and 2.8 metres wide and is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The studio is wheelchair accessible and there is a lift and a disabled toilet. There are 31 studios in total at Art Space Portsmouth. Selection is based on the following criteria: The eligibility of the artist The fully completed application form The quality of the artistʼs work The benefit to be gained by the artist The appropriateness of the studio / facilities to the artistʼs practice The ability to work independently The commitment to use the studio at least 2 days a week or equivalent.

    Background: Art Space Portsmouth is a registered charity that has been providing affordable studios for professional visual artists for over 30 years. Alongside its 31 studios at Brougham Road in Southsea, it also runs a gallery space, GASP (Gallery Art Space Portsmouth). The organisation has been running artists residencies for a number of years.     1 A completed application form (please download as Word or pdf file from our website).

    2 Up to 8 still images of your work or two minute extracts of time based work**

    3 If you want your material to be returned please supply a stamped addressed envelope with your application. (Please do not send any original art work)

    **Please send images in one of the following formats only: Jpegs on a DVD or CD-ROM or A4 print-outs. Please label your images with corresponding number, initial and surname. For example: 01_A_YOURNAME, 02_A_YOURNAME Email applications: Email applications are welcome please restrict emailed still images to 72dpi and a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. Please ensure your email containing your application and images is no larger than 4MB Time-based work: Please do not email time based work please upload time-based work to YouTube or Vimeo and send us the link. If your artistic practice is all time based (video, performance or sound) you may send 8 two-minute extracts. If your practice is time based and stills, you may send a combination of stills and images, for example 5 still images and 3 two-minute extracts. Please note that we will only look at 8 pieces of artwork in total. Please note that we will not look at work sent in any other format. Please do not send additional material, applications that do not follow the guidelines will not be considered.

    APPENDIX: Studio 22: The studio is located on the 1st floor of the ASP building. It is 6 metres long and 2.8 metres wide and is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The studio is wheelchair accessible and there is a lift and a disabled toilet. The studio contains a desk, chair, bookshelf and sink. The studios are heated Monday to Friday 10am 3.30pm and 6pm - 8pm, Saturday and Sunday 12noon 4pm.

    Studio 22, Art Space Portsmouth GASP (Gallery Art Space Portsmouth): GASP is our small gallery / project space located on the 1st floor adjacent to studio 22. It is approx. 7 metres long and 4 metres wide, plus additional space on the landing and staircase (please see imaged below).
