A big THANK YOU to all who made our Advent and Christmas celebrations so joyous: our Advent preachers Rev’d Dr. Anne Natoli and Rev’d Paul Stallsworth (Whiteville UMC); Advent Luncheon cooks; Vestry members who prepared the Christmas Eve reception; the “Deans men” who set up the tree; the Altar and Flower Guilds who worked so hard to decorate the sanctuary; all those who purchased, wrapped and delivered gifts for our Christmas families; those who organized Grace Family Night Pizza and Present Wrapping Party; and, of course, Jamie Faulk and the choir who provided us with such lovely music throughout the season. Special thanks to Paula Blanchard and Elsie Campbell (Fellowship) and Kay Horne (Outreach) for organizing our many December events. Your new vestry members: Paula Blanchard and Alice Murphy will begin their three-year terms in January 2015. They will be installed on Sunday, January 18 at 9:30. We appreciate greatly the leadership provided by Jackie Brooks while she was here and are pleased Paula Blanchard has returned for a repeat term. elected Bill and Kay Horne to represent our

congregation. Paula Blanchard is our alternate

delegate. To get a preview of the convention, the

resolutions under consideration, and the issues to be

discussed, check out the diocesan web page at

The Pre-Convention Deanery Meeting will be held

at St. Andrew’s On the Sound, Wilmington, on

Wednesday, January 21 at 7 p.m. All delegates and

alternates are urged to attend. NOTE: Due to this

meeting, the usual mid-week service and Family

Night activities are cancelled for that evening.

Family Night has been re-scheduled for January 14

at 6:30 p.m.

The kitchen walls, cabinets, and all exterior church

doors have been painted. What a lovely sight!

(Thank you to Ray and Donna Thigpen for helping

defray the cost!) Also, new under-cabinet lighting

has been installed in above the kitchen sink.

Unfortunantely, another leak has been reported in

the roof at Grace House. Jerry Jupina, our Junior

Warden, is seeking bids for those repairs.

RECYCLING: There is a new large

GREEN trash can in the kitchen for

recycling purposes. Please place all paper,

cardboard, plastic cups & dishes (check for

the recycling triangle symbol), foil trays,

glass, and cans in this container. NO

STYROFOAM cups or plates, please! NO BAGS

or GARBAGE, either. Please be kind to “this

fragile earth, our island home” (BCP,

An ecumenical service honoring Rev’d

Martin Luther King, Jr. will be held on

Sunday evening, January 18 at St. Mark’s AME

Zion Church, 114 West Virgil Street, Whiteville at 6

pm. All are invited to attend.

A ‘thank you’ note

Food Pantry: We have a continued need

for canned meats, fish, stew, and pastas; dry

pasta and spaghetti sauce; bags of rice, lima

and pinto beans; canned veggies (tomatoes,

green beans, green peas, succotash, yams);

cans of soup (especially chicken noodle);

coffee and tea, jelly; dish and laundry soap,

toilet tissue and hygiene items; cooking

supplies such as oil, sugar, and flour.

look for and clip Box Tops for Education

coupons as you shop for your meal

preparation supplies.

Rector’s Discretionary Account: Please

consider making a contribution to the

Rector’s Discretionary Account to assist

our neighbors needing help with power bills

in the coming cold weather. You may

place your donation in the small brown

envelopes in the pew. If you write a check,

please make a note on the memo line

indicating that you want your funds to go to

the Discretionary Account. For either a

cash or check contribution, mark the

appropriate box on the front of the

envelope. Gift cards ($10) for gas money

are also welcome.
