Dear Friends,Happy New Year to you all! We have just concluded a vibrant and fulfilling year with the

capstone of a well-attended series of Christmas concerts, special events and services, welcoming thousands of San Franciscans and visitors to our Cathedral for All. Now is a time for renewal and contemplation at Grace Cathedral. As we approach the season of Lent, we reflect on our past and envision the best ways to forge our path ahead.

This period of reflection is especially poignant this year as the search for the 9th Dean progresses on schedule under the leadership of the Search Committee. We are most grateful to the community that makes Grace Cathedral all that it is; for those who continue to serve our mission through excellent liturgy and spiritual practice, in thought-provoking arts, education and culture; those who participate in the vital ministries that are our commitment to social justice; and to you all for your financial support.

In this new year, our goal is to ensure that we continue to create a vibrant, energetic environment where all members of the Cathedral are working to their potential as we prepare to welcome the 9th Dean later this year. Our programming moves ahead as we launch our Year of Technology, exploring the ways in which technology can — and should — impact our world for the better. At Carnivale on February 12, we will hear from Sal Khan, the visionary Founder of Khan Academy, on the ways in which technology can empower us through education, and we will also hear from various Forum guests on the challenges and responsibilities we face in this age of technological advancement. We are also spending time considering how we might best support those who gather here each week for yoga; we look forward to implementing new ideas.

I am so grateful for your support, participation and engagement, together with the wider community that comprises our Cathedral. Thank you for all that you do so generously. I look forward to sharing time with you in this new year.

Sincerely,

Jane Shaw CarpenterChair of the Board of Trustees

Each year, Grace Cathedral weaves a central focus in its program and shared dialogue. 2015 will be the Year of Technology, with an aim to explore technology’s integral presence and implications in our faith-based, Bay Area community, beginning with Sal Khan’s remarks at Carnivale, Forum guests and planned improvements in our own technology infrastructure.

SaYing Farewell to GraCeD WiTH liGHT

On January 24, Grace Cathedral said goodbye to Graced With Light. Installed in March 2013, Graced With Light has been a part of Cathedral life for nearly two years. Th e 20 miles of red, blue and green ribbons hanging from our vaulted ceiling was a community catalyst, featured in countless images in print and on social media, with over half a million “likes” on Instagram, a full page feature in VOGUE Casa Brasil, and articles in the San Francisco Chronicle. We are forever grateful for the privilege ofliving with such a wonderful work of art.
