ABOUT ME

Page 5: Grace Lahey's Graphic Design Portfolio

HI, I’M GRACE.

Consistently throughout my life I have pursued two passions. A passion for art, which evolved into a passion for design. And a passion for the water. I grew up near the Clark Fork River in Missoula, Montana. I spent my winters swimming indoors on my high school swim team, and the summers floating the river, exploring Flathead Lake, and teaching swim lessons. Design is a spectacular form of art where I can subtly meld my two loves together.

STYLE GUIDE // UGG AUSTRALIA

Ugg Australia does not currently have a monthly style guide to be sent via mail to customers. I decided to establish a classic, grid based style guide in order to grab attention and make the consumer aware of new styles and products Ugg is offering. I chose a soft, pastel color pallet contrasted with black expressive typography to exemplify the month of June and the longevity and strength of the brand.

STYLE GUIDE // THE BAILY BUTTON

In each individual spread of the Ugg Style Guide, I chose to juxtapose the shoe itself with the look and personal style of an individual model. In the spread to the left, the new Denim Baily Button is the perfect compliment to the model’s personal fashion and lifestyle.

STYLE GUIDE // THE MEN’S SHOP

Within “The Men’s Shop”, I chose to shift slightly from the elegant, serif typeface Bodoni 72, used in the women’s section of the styleguide. Avenir, a sans-serif typeface, with it’s many options for weight, seemed like a perfect compliment to the more rugged styles of the men’s line from Ugg.

INVITATION DESIGN // ALLYSON & TYLER

Invitation design has become a fun, lucrative business for me outside of design school. Working with two clients in order to establish a perfect design standard for their special day is thrilling for me. This particular set of invites was inspired by the elegance of the couple and their official wedding colors, navy and gold.

POSTER SERIES // INTERCHANGE

In this poster series for the well-known Interchange Conference, we were able to portray an issue that we felt passionate about. We chose to shed light on the issues that women face in the professional world. We used local models that we felt represented a large demographic of women. The type and copy were inspired by these beautiful models and the chilling statistics we found on the injustices women face every day.

INVITATION DESIGN // GRADUATION

I had the amazing opportunity to create my own invitation and special event stationary business a year ago. My desire to create beautiful greeting cards and invitations grew into a full business before my eyes. “A Note from Grace” handles print materials for weddings, graduations, birthdays and social functions. I find the practice of client meetings and sketches to be particularly helpful in expanding my design abilities. In this graduation card I was able to expand my abilities into a more masculine style for a newly graduated mechanical engineer.

Special thanks to Brandon Plant.

WEBSITE RE-DESIGN // HOSAEUS FITNESS CENTER

In the Spring of 2015 I was given the incredible opportunity to re-design the web presence for the fitness center at Montana State University. In this website re-design for the Hosaeus Fitness Center, I kept usability at the forefront of my design. In order for the site to be functional and easily updated, I decided to use clean, simple content containers and beautiful imagery. This simple navigation and structure makes regularly maintaining content on the website easy for an office worker or design assistant. I worked with the new Content Management System at MSU in order to code the site flawlessly and be on point with their current brand standards.

MOBILE WEBSITE // HOSAEUS FITNESS CENTER

Through the CMS (Content Management System) recently in place at Montana State, I was able to create a site that is scalable to any tablet or mobile device. This makes the website much more user friendly. The Hosaeus Fitness Center receives the second most views out of any site on campus, just behind the primary home page for MSU. Having the site scale to tablets and mobile devices makes the fitness center more accessible to a large student population.

PRINT ADVERTISEMENT // FP SADDLERY

For this magazine ad I established an English saddlery based out of Stevensville, Montana. I chose the name “Fortune Prairie” in order to allude to the majestic quality of the Stevensville area and also the beauty and craftsmanship of each saddle. I chose for the imagery to be in black and white with high contrast in order to stick to the brand standard I had originally established for “Fortune Prairie”. Clean lines and simple type make this ad stand out in a horsemanship magazine cluttered with color, large type, and full bleed imagery.

CAMPAIGN // PLANNED PARENTHOOD

In this campaign our job was to bring new attention to a non-profit organization. We decided to shed new light on the highly controversial organization “Planned Parenthood”. I became aware of a bill that was circulating in the United States congress. The bill, introduced by Senator Jeanne Shaheen, would grant access to contraceptives to all military members, active and non-active. I was shocked to hear that the bill had been immediately killed. We chose to use Planned Parenthood to gain awareness of the bill and initiate support for the passing of House Bill 5542. The campaign meshes two very different aspects of our world by coming together for a common purpose.

WE ARE PLANNED PARENTHOOD

Page 30: Grace Lahey's Graphic Design Portfolio

OUR CAMPAIGNAs an act of support for our service women, we are asking men and women across the country (military and non-military) to send their opened condom wrappers to their state congresspeople.

Page 31: Grace Lahey's Graphic Design Portfolio

We designed condom wrappers that would be distributed at all Planned Parenthood organizations and events as well as on college campuses. Users of these condoms would then send their opened condom wrapper to their state senators and representatives along with a letter professing their support of the bill.

WEBSITE // PLANNED PARENTHOOD

We re-designed the existing Planned Parenthood website in order to compliment our campaign. The new look of the website shows Planned Parenthood’s support of our military women. It also creates a very easy way for supporters of our campaign to find the constituent letter and address of their state congresspeople.

BIOGRAPHY BOOKLET // HATCH - 2015

This spring, Yarrow Kraner, director of HATCH, asked if I would create a biography booklet of all the HATCH participants for the HATCH EDU @ DSEL Conference. This project pushed my limits not only in terms of design, but also in content management. I also had the opportunity to work with the creative minds at Classic Ink, a well known design firm in Bozeman, Montana.

PACKAGING // “UGG AUSTRALIA” BY OPI

In order to bring new awareness to the brand of Ugg Australia, I chose to expand the brand into an area it is not typically in. I chose OPI as the polish line because this brand frequently has lines of polish partnered with another company or popular celebrity. Lines from OPI currently include “50 Shades of Grey”, “The Kardashians”, “Ford Mustang”, “Coca-Cola”, and many more. This clever form of marketing brings awareness to a new demographic of potential customers.
