Most people do not like change becauseof the unknown. Worldwide seminarsare presented on how to adopt tochange and how to embrace it with apositive attitude. Life changes every-day technology has evolved over thepast decade, and a vast number ofpeople are using social media platformslike Facebook and Twitter.Still there is a pronounced need for

the printed media, especially com-munity newspapers, and I am proud toannounce that GPS News is now ex-panding to Hazyview as well.

From the editorThere are people that do not posses a

computer, or have the skills to use so-cial media. To see the joy on their faces,or to receive their thanks after havingread GPS News, justifies the long hoursof hard work. The only constant factor that will

never change is God. If change in yourlife hurts and you dont know how toget through it, trust the One that willnever change.May you have a blessed Easter with

your families, and if you are travelling, please be safe.

On 14 March, adventurer, writerand photographer Sean Fraenkelembarked on a journey to cyclefrom Musina to Cape Town with his twoJack Russels, Turbo and Tequila. Seanand the dogs are doing this in aid of PetEmpowerment in Townships (PETS), anon-profit organisation in the WesternCape that looks after animals in town-ships and poor communities.GPS News caught up with him on 27

March, when he was en route betweenGraskop and Sabie after having spentthe night in Pilgrims Rest. After 12 years as a commercial diver,

Sean had returned to Cape Town, butsoon longed for another adventure. Hedecided to follow the route from Musinato Cape Town through Lesotho as de-scribed in the book Riding the DragonsSpine by David Bristow and SteveThomas. He calls his adventure theBarking Mad Charity Ride because he iscycling with his Jack Russels. The twodogs ride along in a specially-tailoreddoggy trailer, but sometimes they enjoyrunning along the bicycle.I do this as a labour of love, Sean

told GPS News.Although he is alone most of the time

on his journey with only the dogs forcompany, he said: So far the people havemade this trip. They are so generous. While passing through Sabie, he

sensed another mini-adventure and did abridge swing at Sabie Falls, and actuallyenjoyed it so much that he did it twice. He said he hoped to complete the trip

in three months as he was trying toavoid the harsh winter conditions inLesotho.Visit Seans website at www.sean-

Sarels bakery crazy enough for croissantsSarel Loots (or Sarel from Sa-bie, as he became known whenhe competed in the TV showMasterchef) started a new ven-ture in Sabie. Joining handswith brother and sister teamRiaan and Elizca Davies,Sarels Crazy Butter Bakerycame into existence. They spe-cialise in baking a vast varietyof croissants, and also sell un-baked, frozen croissants for thehospitality and restaurant in-dustry.A croissant is a buttery vien-

noiserie pastry named for its crescent shape. Croissantsand other viennoiserie are made of layered yeast-leaveneddough. The dough is layered with butter, rolled and folded

several times in succession, thenrolled into a sheet, in a techniquecalled laminating. The process re-sults in a layered, flaky texture, similar to a puff pastry, according toWikipedia.Sarels Crazy Butter Bakery also

specialises in wraps and other de-lectable treats.Sarel says: I have good news for

gluten intolerant sufferers SarelsCrazy Butter Bakery now has arange especially for you. We onlyuse 100% butter in our products, and I am sure once you have tasted

    BRIEWELETTERS

The article about old advertisements inthe last edition of GPS News remindedme of an advert aired some years ago. When the duel blade for razors was firstlaunched, there was a TV advertisingcampaign which went roughly as follows.A gorgeous hunk, with a snow white

towel round his midriff, was seen rub-bing his chin with an expression of un-bounded satisfaction. The insert showedthat the first blade almost made it whilstthe second finished the job to perfection.Good stuff.Today we have the quad blade.Based on the evidence of the advert

above, the third and fourth blades areremoving two layers of skin. Little won-der that the shelves are packed withbottles of aftershave for sensitive skins. At a time when we are getting in-

creasingly sensitive to environmental is-sues, consider these further impacts:more plastic, more steel, more energy. What is the solution?Grow a beard so that daily you can al-

low yourself a warm glow of satisfactionfor helping to save the planet and yourface. Give the money you save to a de-serving charity of your choice. Your dailyjoy is now complete.I think it was Abe Lincoln who said:

You cant fool all of the people all of thetime. So the lies get even sweeter.Be alert!Jeff Hawkes

Whilst compiling GPS News on Saturday5 April, the power suddenly went off. Myinitial reaction was: eish, it must belightning or load shedding, but no... thepre-paid units had run out.Wanting to buy units to the value of

R300 at BP in Sabie, I was told that theydo not accept debit cards, and went out-side and withdrew R350. Without think-ing, I handed the cashier the money, tookthe slip and went to my vehicle. The cashier, Nella Mashego came run-

ning to my vehicle with the balance ofR50.GPS News recently also reported

about a customer who had left cash atthe ATM and was called by BP staff afterhaving investigated on CCTV who themoney belonged to.I would like to compliment BP on the

calibre of the staff they employ. Thankyou, Nella, for your honesty.Valerie Kemp, GPS News

Nick is n selferkende speed freak. Ek wou nog altyd net

jaag selfs van skooldae af. Sy motor, n BMW 320i, is agter-

    Theunissens takelSasol 14de keer

I just had to go and find out moreabout the Toyota Fortuner D4Dfor myself as I see so many ofthem on the road. My test vehicle was2010 Fortuner D4D 4x4 automatic witharound 75 000 km on the clock from alocal dealer.I set off for a weekend of driving

around the Lowveld, going for break-fast in Pilgrims Rest, picking stuff upfrom a hardware shop and runningaround town.My wife, Liesel, also used the For-

tuner and she was bowled over by theease of driving, parking and cartingaround our daughter. She was alsovery happy with the low boot lid open-ing that made loading shopping bagseasy.I did a bit of four-wheel driving

around the area and the 3.0 l turbo diesel with 120 kWand 340 Nm of torque made light work of most obstacles. The auto gearbox is a pleasure and you can sit back andrelax in the super comfy and luxurious ride in town or onthe open road.I was also amazed by the fuel consumption. The For-

tuner returned an average of 10 litres per 100 km in com-bined highway and town driving. For the fortunate ones among us buying a new one does

not get any better, but I would opt for a two- or three-year-old model with low mileage with the balance of mo-

tor plan still active. They can be found from aroundR250 000 upwards in 4x2 manual form, and most of thedepreciation has been absorbed by the previous owner. This will give you the confidence in buying a pre-ownedunit, and being a Toyota everything should keep on goingright for many years to come. The excellent resale valueof a Toyota is legendary, so your investment becomes thatmuch safer.I am officially a Fortuner convert now and I will urge

anyone looking at an SUV to test drive a Fortuner.Toyota Fortuner... now I understand!
