Prepared By : Mochamad Irwan HarahapSr. Engineer – Telco Implementation VAS, PT XL Axiata
Topic Covered
GPRS System Overview Mobility Management Session Management QoS Roaming Implementation in the Core Network
Why Data Services ? Technology Roadmap & Trends
Why Data Services ? change the way of communication & expressing yourself

Example of GGSN Hardware – Ericsson GGSN
Access Point Name (APN) is a part of GPRS subscription data which is stored in Home Location Register (HLR) and which is transferred to the SGSN upon the activation of a GMM-Context.
APN has to be defined in GGSN too. APN is split into two parts :
Network Identifier : Mandatory Example : www.xlgprs.net
Operator Identifier : Optional, except for inter-PLMN roaming Example : mnc011.mcc510.gprs
Max APN Length : 100 octets. Max Network Identifier Length : 63 octets Max Operator Identifier : 100 – Network Identifier Length
There are wildcard APN (*) on HLR. Which can allow user to not request a specific APN to do PDP Context Activation
APN
1. MS has to be attached to network
How to access the Internet ?
Attach request
How to access the Internet ?
2. MS has to have the IP address
How to access the Internet ?
3. MS access the web page
QoS
The GPRS QoS functions, based on Release 99 QoS, including the following: Guaranteed Bit Rate (GBR) admission control Packet Flow Control (PFC) Overload Protection (OLP) Maximum Bit Rate (MBR) policing 3GPP-to-Internet Protocol (IP) QoS mapping rules Queueing, scheduling, and flow control (GSM)
Sample of Optional QoS
High Speed Downlink Packet Access Support (HSDPA Support)
QoS
UMTS QoS R99 based on 3GPP TS 23.107
