GoWentGone Products Catalogue

Go Went Gone is...?...a journey of concord, which began a while after our graduation.

Three of us have explored different white-collar jobs, trying to complete our own destiny.

In the course we have put all the efforts into our works and eventually learnt that ‘working’ was not

the answer for all—there’s more to life. So we gathered up and started our expedition with a small pocket money.

We hitchhiked along the way and he further we go, the further we shared, thought the thoughts and extensively discussed

the meaning of life. Literally our friendship has become deeply perceptive and finally we have made it to the country

of Laos, where we ended our journey. Sharing our memorable experiences, we created a page on Facebook. Then,

we all separated so as to walk on individual path again. And today, after all the multiply journeys, we asked ourselves,

‘Is there any other significant meanings of the journey that could be more than just our travel experiences?’

We thought about Arts of which we majored in and realized that we have never used it to either inspire

another great life journey or make it become something worth for our society. We, after all, apperceived

that Arts should be of merits of the life of others and of our inspiration

because life is art, is a vital journey and is the dedication.

FROM SURIN TO YOUWe traveled to Surin several times in 2013

because we need to help local artisans at Ban Tamore, Surin

design and develop their products. We hope that their product will be

more unique and popular, also more participation from local youngsters,

in order to keep our disappearing technique, which is……Mud-Mee, or Ikat,

A traditional khmer threads dying technique from Suay, Cambodia then

spread to E-San (North-East of Thailand). Anyway, Mud-Mee still now

considered an almost vanished dying technique because

more craftsmen quit this job and fewer

new generation keep it alive.

We, GoWentGone, hope this project

will help our awesome heritage alive too.

MUDMEE CUSHION

THAI SILKThe silk from Thailand's caterpillars varies in color from light gold

to very light green. A cocoon is comprised of one thread that

is 500-1,500 meters long. A single filament is too thin to

use alone so many threads are combined to

make a thicker, more practical fiber.

Our weavers wash these raw silk threads, bleach them,

then soak them in vats of hot dyes. Afterwards, they wash the silk thread again,

stretch it, and put it through a final dying process. When that is finished,

they wind the threads onto spools or drums in preparation

for weaving using traditional hand operated looms.

Every piece of hand woven Thai silk is a timeless,

unique work of textile art from the hands of a rural Thai woman.

Since it is art work produced by a human, it forever carries an imprint

of the character, thoughts, emotions, feelings, spirit and life of the weaver.

It's imperfection is the heart of its beauty and the proof of its human creator.

Machine woven silk is a wider, monotonously “perfect” industrial fabric

that can be produced to ISO standards and is more suitable

than hand-woven silk for some purposes.

We sell both types, wholesale and retail.

MATERIALS

SILVER

Prakueam is a Cambodian word forround silver or gold beads strungtogether into ornaments. Surin’sbeads are noted for their varietyof shapes and patterns.

NATURAL DYEING

The most of fabric yarn threads are dyedwith colors from natural ingredients.From the wisdom to artisans in Surin.For instance, red color comes from lac,yellow color from turmeric and etc.

THAI SILK

Thai silk is a timeless, unique workof textile art from the hands of a ruralThai woman. Since it is art workproduced by a human, it forevercarries an imprint of the character,thoughts, emotions, feelings, spiritand life of the weaver.

HERITAGE

We found the first village to makebeads, both with silver and gold,hundreds of years ago. It is believedthat they inherited this art from theirCambodian ancestors.

COTTON

Cotton is a part of our daily livesfrom the time we dry our faces ona soft cotton towel in the morninguntil we slide between fresh cottonsheets at night. It has hundreds ofuses, from Clothing to householditems are the largest uses.

HANDICRAFT

Surin’s most acclaimed silk is Pha hole,which differs from other MUDMEE, ortied-and dyed silk, with regards tothe selection of silk threads, thetie-and-dye technique andthe weaving style.
