Greetings!!!! I have only 20 days left to complete my Governors Year of this

great District 1A – Mother District of World Lionism. I have not enough words to thank all District 1A Lions for their unconditional support in making District Programs successful ones and record breaking ones. Also for your help you rendered in increasing District Membership. Almost after a decade, District 1A is more than 100 New Members+. We brought one new club – Chicago Magnificent Lions Club and one more will be chartered – Broadview Lions Club prior to the end of June, 2015. Week ago we chartered one brand new Leo Club – Chicago Rogers Park Leo Club. Even in contributions, we showed a tremendous growth this year. I had 3 favorite charities – Lions Clubs International Foundation – which crossed more than $40,000 this year (thanks to The Forest Kala Sampath Lions Club for their share as more than $22,000 just this year); Leader Dogs for the Blind which crossed more than $ 12,000 this year and my third charity – Operation Smile was able to spend money for 6 needy kids who have cleft lip. I couldn’t have asked more than this to District 1A Lions. Thank you; thank you once again for helping me to reach my goals. Even though I was in the hospital for the first two months at the beginning due to my severe stroke, I did my best to satisfy the needs of District 1A. I attended every meeting, every program I was invited for. Some days I did attend 3 programs a day without taking any rest. Whenever any club needed me, I was there with club members to show my support and to encourage them to do more for their communities. This year my other goal was to bring members to Lionism and also encourage female lions for leadership roles. I had two Region Chairs and 8 Zone Chairs – Lady Lions. My Cabinet Secretary and Treasurer – both were Lady Lions. Majority of the new members who got inducted to District wide Lions Clubs were also female Lions. As a result of this we are going to have District 1A’s third female governor in two years –Cabinet Treasurer Lion Pat Duda. I attended 17 Region Meetings this year and missed only one due to double scheduling. Thank you HOG (Husband Of Governor) PDG Austin D’Souza for driving me all over the District and State for attending Lions activities, conventions, meetings, banquets, seminars, etc., etc.

Last Sunday during Cabinet Awards event I couldn’t control my emotions and I was dropping tears with winning joy and happiness. I loved every second as your District Governor and will cherish your friendship, fellowship and team spirit in reaching my goals for years to come. My humble request to all of you District 1A Lions is – please continue your support, team spirit and help to Incoming Governor Ralph Zarada and make his year as your Governor a successful one. I am pretty sure that with his enthusiasm and leadership, he is going to make all of us proud. Below is the table of New Members and Sponsors. Some new members have no sponsors. What a fun I had this year with our District Governor! I almost felt like I was the Governor for the III time. Except - I had no opportunity to speak.

With my full time job, being an Editor of MD1 Monthly e-Magazine, Governor’s Monthly Newsletter and Cabinet Newsletter, it kept me extremely busy - not enough time to rest. I came home from every function and uploaded all photographs I took on facebook and sent links to all Lion Leaders in the District & State. It’s fun to be with lions, make them smile while taking their pictures and make laugh. Many lions in the district showed their worries for the coming year to attend programs take pictures and upload on facebook. Taking pictures and posting them on facebook is not an easy task. It takes time and energy especially when you reach late and next day have to get up early to go to work; however, I did my best and satisfied thousands of lions worldwide. I promise you all that I will continue doing this in the coming years if only clubs invite me to attend their programs in person – not through general e-mails and notifications. I mean I want a personal invitation for facebook photo albums of your club events. New Year, new leaders and new ideas. Let us all work together and one team and make Incoming Governor Ralph Zarada’s Lionistic year a successful one. As our leader, he deserves the best from all of us.

convention. The Installation of

officers was a great event and this

year was no exception. I want to extend my

appreciation to Lions Gail and Steve Anton for the

planning of the event. Thanks for your efforts.

Congratulations to Lion Ernie Lapid for being elected as

First VDG, Lion Pat Duda as Second VDG and to Lion

Richard "Doc" Rucoba as District 1A LIF Trustee. I am

looking forward to working with you in the upcoming

year.

We are heading down to the final weeks of DG Lion

Terry and First Gentleman PDG Austin D'Souza's

leadership year. I want to thank them for their service

and for a great year. For me they have not only been

good friends but good listeners and advisors as I have

moved through my year as First VDG. I am looking

forward to working with all of the Cabinet and the Lions

of District 1A as your District Governor and continuing

the momentum that Lion Terry has started for District

1A.

As a final thought, I want to encourage all the Lions

Clubs of District 1A to think about their future. To

envision where their club will be 5 to 10 years from now

and what will you do to further the mission of the Lions

motto "We Serve"? The strength of our association,

district and clubs are fundamentally based on a vision of

service which in turn attracts members and breathes

life and sustains a club well into the future. A club needs

to visualize their future and execute that vision to the

best of their ability. The road is not easy. But the

journey getting there is fulfilling.

As we continue preparations and move forward on the implementation

phase of our celebration, please be sure to refer to the Lions100.org

to you as both a source of information and inspiration.

Lead Through Service

Community service is at the heart of our organization. It's what we do.

It's what we have always done. And it will remain our focus as we

move forward into our next 100 years. That is why service is at the

forefront of our centennial celebration.

The Centennial Service Challenge was launched at the 2014

International Convention in Toronto. The goal is to impact the lives of

100 million people worldwide in the areas of youth, vision, hunger relief

and improving the environment. In just the first nine months, Lions of the world have reported service to 32 million people under the

challenge. That is an amazing achievement, and a great start to our service challenge. As centennial coordinators, you can view the

activities and progress of clubs on the MyLCI section of the LCI web site. We want every club to reach the diamond level. What's

the diamond level? In order to qualify for a patch, clubs must report their centennial service challenge activities via the Service Activity

Report on MyLCI by July 15 of each year.

Invite For Impact

This year, our membership grew to 1.4 million. That's a remarkable achievement. As the needs of our communities continue to

escalate, we must continue to grow our membership to meet those needs. More importantly, if we look at the 32 million people

whose lives have been touched so far, that means each Lion has benefitted 23 people in need. Imagine how many more

millions of people we can help if each club had just one more Lion! The Centennial Celebration Membership Awards provide all

Lions and Lions clubs the opportunity to earn special Limited Edition awards for inviting new members and helping to organize new

clubs. You can support the Global Membership Team by encouraging Lions and clubs to in this important centennial program. Offer

your assistance to your MD-GMT and/or your District GMT to help promote the Centennial Celebration Membership Awards Program.

Promote Our Centennial

Centennial Grants - Multiple districts may qualify for a centennial grant. The grants are based on the equation of up to US$1500 per

district (but not to exceed US$15,000) for multiple districts or up to US$2500 for single districts (districts not part of a multiple). Grant

applications will be available for download from the Lions100.org web site after July 1st of this year. Only one grant will be approved per

multiple or single district over the remaining three year period of the centennial celebration. Grants are restricted to centennial

celebrations and activities.

Are you attending the International Convention in Honolulu? If you are, please plan to attend the centennial seminar entitled "How Will

YOU Celebrate?" The seminar is scheduled for Saturday, June 26th, from 1400 to 1500 in the Lili'u theater in the convention center.

Other centennial activities in Honolulu include:

A centennial celebration segment during the first plenary session A centennial booth in the convention hall with games and prizes Centennial related advertising around Honolulu
