Council has proposed a 4 amendments and clarifications to BCI Statutes for General Assembly approval on Wednesday, 24 June
Amendments will:
» ensure BCI conforms with best practice guidelines in governance and
» facilitate increased membership within the business-to-consumer sector
Statutes Approved by the founding General Assembly – 1st July 2009
With revisions approved by the General Assembly on 10 June 2010 and
28 June 2012
Statutes Amendment 1
» Change: Specify a time limit for Council
membership: Members can serve a maximum of
10 years on the Council (this includes any inter-
election appointments)
» Reason: To ensure BCI governance conforms to
best practice

» Change: Clarify eligibility for Council election
candidates
» Reason: To align eligibility criteria with the
introduction of time limits for Council
membership

» Change: Broaden the definition of the Retailer
and Brand membership category
» Reason: To include service providers (hotels,
tour operators, etc.) and expand the scope of
membership

» Change: Affirm the Association’s financial
powers
» Reason: To facilitate BCI’s financial obligations
when setting up subsidiaries in Better Cotton
