Priming and Air Separation AccomplishedWithin CasingDual volute design primes suction with only aninitial charge of liquid in the casing. During primingcycle, the lower volute functions as an intake whileupper volute discharges liquid and entrained airinto separation chamber. Air is separated andexpelled through pump discharge while liquidrecirculates into lower volute. Once air iscompletely removed from suction and liquid fillsimpeller eye, pump is fully primed, and functions as

a conventional centrifugal pump with both volutesperforming as discharges.

The casing is designed so that an adequatevolume of liquid for repriming is always retained inpump even if liquid is allowed to drain back tosource of supply from discharge and suction.

PRIMING PUMPING

The one-piece casing is designed

with integral priming and air

separation chambers. Priming is

accomplished within the casing,

eliminating the need for auxiliary

priming systems.

Reliable Self-Priming OperationBefore any centrifugal pump will perform, it must first be primed; that is, air orgases expelled from the suction and impeller eye area, and replaced with liquid. This is no problem when the pump is submerged (submersible or vertical sumppumps) or when liquid supply is above the pump. However, when suctionpressure is negative, air must be evacuated to accomplish pump priming.

The 3796 is designed to insure that a sufficient quantity ofliquid to reprime is always retained in the priming

chamber...a compact, integral and completely functionalself-priming pump.

EXTRA LARGE OIL SUMPLarge oil capacity provides optimum heat

transfer for cooler running bearings.

RIGIDFRAME FOOT

Reduces effect of pipe loads

on shaft alignment. Pump/driver

alignment is better maintained for

extended bearing and seal life.

Goulds X-Series power ends (STX, MTX, LTX ) are the result of users’requirement for longer pump life. Standard performance features extendpump life without compromis-ing Goulds remarkable interchangeability.Goulds backs the X-Series power ends with an unconditional guaranteeagainst workmanship and material for 3 years from date of manufacture.

LARGE OIL SIGHT GLASSAllows viewing condition and level of oil—critical

for bearing life. Frame pre-drilled for optional

bottle oiler.

CONDITION MONITORING SITESAllow easy and consistent monitoring of

temperature and vibration for preventive

maintenance. Optional installation of sensors.
