Got Life

What Is Your Social Testimony?

“Go ye therefore...”

To often that phrase is incorrectly associated with outreach or mission work. And therefore we limit the clarion call to a special sect in the church world.

But “Go ye” is commanded to every believer who claims the name of Christ.

Now, I don’t want to approach this from the usual angle. Instead I want to go deeper and wider into the culture of the twenty-first century.

A well known gospel artist once said, “the disciples wish they were alive today...”. The ability for a person to touch lives globally, without ever leaving their

city, could be considered a wonder of the world.

As the social networking world grows, so does the opportunity for us to “go therefore” and be a witness to the “uttermost parts of the earth”.

The opportunity is there, but to often we waste it!

Before there was such a thing as social networking, christians - with a small “c”- would pretend to be Christians. They had the resemblance of a Christ follower, but they lack the true lifestyle of one.

However, these imitation Christ-followers no longer hide behind Sunday morning performances, doing there anti-Christ actions when no one is looking. Nope! Today they are open and out - they have come out of the closet! While Christians are told to be quite and stop “judging people because no bodies perfect!”

I won’t even touch on that demonic rhetoric.

But the tragedy is one of the greatest opportunities we have to be a witness is being flushed away by people who proclaim to be children of God, while acting as if Satan is their father.

You see many sinners, and yes I used that politicly incorrect word, will never set foot in a church to learn about God.

Each month I ask myself,“how can I encourage our readers?” And once again I ponder the thought. Just because we are making our way into Spring, it doesn’t mean that everyone is experiencing “spring” in their life. But no matter what season any of us are in, we must all trust God to shine and rain upon us.

As I think about the gorgeous weather we have had in Houston the last couple of weeks in February, I shiver as I think about my friends north of us who are still plowing their way through snow and enduring zero below weather.

Within one country, there are people who are enjoying warmth and sunshine, while others are struggling to make it through a bitter winter. Some people have told me of being confined to their homes because the roads are to dangerous to travel.

I can’t help but think of life. While some are enjoying what we term ‘the blessings of God” others seem to be enduring the “harsh realities of life”.

Recently I was bragging to a friend in Minnesota about our wonderful late spring like weather. In turn they told me about how children are being kept out of school because the weather is to dangerous for them to walk to school in.

While that was all in fun, when it comes to “life”, we must learn how to use our “spring” to help others through their winter.

I want to encourage each of us, who may find ourselves in that “spring break” moment, to encourage someone who may be in a blizzard, even if it’s just keeping them in our prayers until the snow begins to melt, and they can see the sunshine. Spring is just a few days away!

Owe No Man

By Bishop Brenda K. Perry

Romans 13:8a, “Owe no one anything except to love one another.” Here Paul addresses

the Roman body of believers about their obligation to the laws of the land in rendering their money in paying taxes and dues to the government. Jesus told the Pharisee, and religion leaders, to render what belong to Creaser to Creaser, and that what belong to God to God. Jesus was an example in paying what belong to someone else, from paying the debt of our sins to paying taxes for Himself and Peter.

It would be nice just to pay taxes and nothing else, but because life is real, we somehow get caught up or entangle in this world’s goodies. There are stories in the Bible that show how people were so much so in debt that their family lives were going to be affected. The story in Matthew 18:23-26 where the king wants to settle his accounts with his servants. One of the servants owed ten thousand talents. He and his family were forced to be sold into slavery because of the debt that was owed. In 2 Kings 4:1-7 the wife of a prophet became a widow, and the debt that was left behind from her husband had placed her between a rock and a hard place. The creditor was coming to take her two sons away from her so they would become his slave, so they could pay off the debt they had.

Now you may read the entire stories for yourself so you can gain more knowledge and wisdom. How

they became in debt, and what the debt consisted of, would take time to research. However, we today have these stories and many more for our learning. Debt does not affect just the one person, but those that we are around and with us.

Definition of DEBT (Merriam-Webster Dictionary) 1. sin, trespass;2. something owed: obligation; 3. a state of owing (deeply in debt); 4. the

Safety through the Storms Matt. 8:23-27

By Minister Isaac Bazile

Have you ever been through a major storm in your life? I have a personal story of my family living in New Orleans, going through Hurricane Katrina, while my family and I were here in Houston. My mom, siblings, their families, and a host of other relatives were trapped in New Orleans and lost everything. I'm not going to give all the details. Life is full of storms. Not just ones that deal with nature, but ones that we face in life through various circumstances. Many times those storms are referred to as the trials of life or the trouble we face in life. It may be the storm of tragedy. For some it may be the storm of some unexpected change. It may be the storm of failure or fear! What do we do when the storms of life do come? God allows us to experience the valleys for His glory and our good!

You say, "Minister Bazile, there is no storm in my life today. It's all smooth sailing. I don't have any troubles."

common law action for the recovery of money held to be due.

I was surprised that the first definition of debt had sin and trespass. In Johns 8:36, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” Here Jesus was talking about sins, and those that believe on Him, and receive salvation, will be set free. Jesus paid the price on Calvary. Sin has no more power over us. We have the choice to allow the grace of God to continue its work, and be no more entangled in the cares of this life, but to seek Him first and His righteousness!

I believe Apostle Paul was telling the Roman believers that we need not to owe anyone outside of love. Many people are so caught in loving and pleasing themselves that even when we say we are doing it for our spouse and children, we like the praise and all that goes along with it. We all feel like we deserve some things in life better than our parents, and our children deserve better than we. So with this attitude, we began the process of accumulating things to show that we are one that shows and gives love by material things, earthly things that will perish.

What cruel children and people are looking for is true love by giving of oneself and time. We’d rather work our self to death than to give the best gifts of love and oneself. So, to show we are all that, we get this perception

After World War II lending, or credit, became more accessible to working families. They desired a better and successful lifestyle of living. Why wait and save to buy? Let’s get it now. They may have had more just causes in the 50’s and 60’s. Sear and Roebuck was one of the first creditors to help the working man to better himself and his family. The term was to pay back with very little interest. From the banks, the automobile industry, and other corporations that was able to lend saw they could gain by lending. God saw it many years before they did. That is why He told Israel not to charge interest to his brothers, but to foreigners they could. The United States of American, along with the people in it, are so deep in debt that it’s going to take the grace of God to bring us out.

It is not of God for us, and truly the people of God, to be so in debt that it affects our lives, our relations with each other, and our commitment in giving to His Kingdom work. In His word we are to be a lender and not a borrower. We are to be on the blessed end. Scripture says that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Psalms 37:21, “The wicked borrow and does not repay, but the righteous show mercy and gives.”

Remember the two stories I spoke of earlier? God will give mercy and grace to His people so they can pay their debt. There’s no glory given to God in not paying our debt. God’s people are to be open and honest in rendering what is owed to others. There is no need to run and hide and lie. Many creditors will be willing to help you if you show that you are for real and truthful. Remember, truth

helps to make one free. Owe no man but to love them. Next month we will give some helpful tips in getting out of debt.

Storm from page 2

You remind me of the church sign that read: "If you have troubles, come in and tell us about them. If you have none, come in and tell us how you do it." You may not be in any kind of storm today... but know this: the winds of trouble are brewing. There is no escaping it. "Man who is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble". (Job 14.1)

Like myself, some of you maybe going through a storm today. It may be a spiritual storm. For others it is a financial storm. For you it is a marital storm. Perhaps it is a physical storm. The wind and waves are crashing against you, and you feel like you’re going under. I have experienced these storms, and like some of you I also experienced fear of going under and being overwhelmed by these storms. That’s where we learn to trust God! That’s where we learn to depend upon God! That’s where our faith deepens! That’s when our walk with God gets closer while in the struggles and storms of life!

“What Weighty Issue Tips Your Scale?”

It has been a minute since I wrote an article. I have been heavy in heart that I did not have any words to say. They call it writer’s block, but I ran across this little story by this author Pasty Clairmont. She is so funny. She writes short stories and they are so funny. In this particular one, she was talking about how weight matters. Some of us don’t want anyone to know how much we weigh, or even how much we lost. At the end of the story she makes this statement that caught my attention, “What weighty issue tips your scale?” Wow! That was so powerful to me because I can really get caught up in some things if I don’t listen to the voice of God.

We all know the scripture that says lay aside the weights that so easily beset us. We can get side tracked by our everyday situations, if we let them. In this short story she talked about a scale that could talk. It would record if you lost a pound or if you gained one. It even recorded your name so when you would leave it would hold the information. Now if someone else would use the scale, they would know all of your

information first, so what you were trying to keep a secret is now revealed.

The devil remembers our past, and then tries to reveal it to others in a negative way. He keeps us locked down with our past and what people have done to us. It would be something if the Lord kept all the stuff on us and reminded us of it everyday. Thank God for his grace and mercy. He holes nothing against us. God is our example.

We can get so weighed down with the cares of the world. We hold on when God tells us to let it go. We get so heavy with the cares of the world until it gets hard to allow the Lord to really fight for us when he wants too. We become consumed and in the way. What’s keeping you weighted down, which keeps you from your focus to hear the voice of God when he says let go.

When we get so heavy with all the cares, we don’t focus, we get weighed down, and we can’t do what God has called us to do. Then devil exposes us for who we are in the flesh, He gives out our information, we miss the mark and God doesn’t get the glory.

Once again peace and blessing;

Sis Donna Stephens, Ladies of the Light Coordinator

“When I Was A Child”

Matthew 28:18-20

When I was a child, there was a certain street corner in my neighborhood that when occupied I knew what was going on. There was always the big white tent, plenty of brown folding chairs, a set of drums on the platform, a podium, and of course a microphone. If you passed by that corner about eight that night you would hear someone speaking loudly. You could hear the sound of the drums seemingly after the end of every sentence. People shouting “Amen” and some were crying. There was always a crowd standing around the tent, although I didn’t understand why when there were empty seats under the tent. Perhaps they were reluctant to go in because as the person spoke people were screaming and some even fell out on the ground. I heard that some people were even healed.

Storm form page 4

It's a wonderful thing when Jesus calms the storm upon a sea. But, it's also a wonderful thing when Jesus calms a storm in the midst of the human heart. The storms of life teach us to pray more, fast more and through the storms our faith is strengthened. Our prayer ought to be, “Lord .. you know the storm I’m facing. After all .. you allowed it to come my way for a reason. I ask you this morning from your Word to give me strength for the storm and to teach me what you want me to know.” And if you’ll make that your prayer . . . God’s going to give you hope and help as you face the storm!

Child from page 5

In my neighborhood this event was called “evangelism”. Therefore, this is what I thought to be what evangelism was. The church where I attended didn’t have such a tent service, so I thought evangelism was for those people who occupied that, or any corner. However, one day I saw a man in downtown Houston, walking back and forth, swinging a bible, and preaching loudly. Some people stopped to talk to him, others paid him no attention. I was told that people who did this were evangelizing. Again, I never knew of anyone from my church going to do this. So again I figured this was for other people to do.

In Sunday school, B.Y.P.U., and Children’s Church we were told of “missionaries” who ventured to foreign countries to spread the gospel.

I often wondered why these people were never of my ethnicity, so I figured “foreign evangelism” was for other people. As I grew much older and began to understand scripture better, I received revelation knowledge that Matthew 28:18-20 was for every believer. Age did not matter. Ethnicity did not matter. Where you did it did not matter. Gender did not matter. None of these things mattered because none of these things matters to Jesus. He commanded us to (1) GO, (2) TELL, (3) BAPTIZE, and (4) MAKE DISCIPLES. His master plan to spread the gospel was, and still is, I tell you- you tell someone else – they tell someone – they tell someone- you’ve got the picture. Word of mouth is the most convincing tool we have to promote anything. When we are convinced of the worth of anything, we get great pleasure in sharing it with family, friends, or anyone.

Now that my eyes were open to the truth, I had to change my attitude. Today there are a lot of ideas for church evangelism, but it all starts with the attitude of the people in the

church. To evangelize, or to share the gospel, was commanded of me by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I had to take this personally. Once He told me, it then became my choice whether to do it or not.

The same things Jesus did He left for us to do. He gave us the authority, His Holy Spirit of power, geographical directions, and the method we are to primarily use daily. The choice is ours to make.

Elder Edna Johnson, Outreach Ministry Leader

Social from page 1

But they will befriend a Christian on Facebook or Twitter, follow them on Blogger or WordPress.

Paul said for us to follow him as he followed Christ. What a great great person to follow on Twitter or befriend on Facebook.

But what about you? When they follow you are they really following Christ? Does your social testimony lead them to the cross, or to a life of “it’s ok to compromise”?

How many saints perform on Sunday or preachers “preach the house crazy”, but destroy the testimony of Christ when the go back to their social life?

Our real testimony is not when we are together at church. No. It’s when we go to that big o’ world in the socialsphere.

What we used to hid, we now do openly. We brag and LOL! about it. We even find it ok to swear as long as it’s in acronyms.

Do we not realize that God is holding us accountable for our false testimony? We will be judged for the way we misrepresent the way of the cross.

It is not the broadway some are showing the world. But is strait and narrow...and many will choose not to walk it, even some christians.

So the next time you sign on, think about the testimony you will leave behind when you sign off.

LIL Chocolate BoY

Hey New Life Temple Church Family. Goodness, where do I begin on what God has allowed to transpire thus far here in Waco, Texas at Baylor University? Gosh, I am just lost in thought of all that He has done, is doing, and shall bring to past, and so much more. First off, I miss my amazing, anointed, and awesome church family back in Houston, Texas on a regular basis. You guys are literally irreplaceable and I love you all! Anyway..…

Last semester I joined about three organizations, but I want to narrow in on one particular organization called Heavenly Voices (which is a super anointed gospel choir on campus that is filled with some hardcore radical Christians). Before I say anything else, know that when you say you want to be used by God, or your answer to His will, no matter what, is yes, He will surely use you for any position that needs to be filled. God’s sense of humor is too much.

Before school had even started, I told God to use me in any way He wanted to use me. Matter of fact, I said verbatim that I just wanted to be used. One evening, towards the end of one of our rehearsals on Monday, our

taking a heavy toll on their social lives.

The first half of the show typically introduces the hoarder and their home. As the camera operator gets unimaginable footage of clutter and disorganization throughout the bedrooms, restrooms, kitchen, living room, dining area, and garage, the viewer sees everything. The assigned expert or professional (usually a psychologist) helps guide, instruct and encourage the individual to the starting process of getting rid of all the unnecessary junk. Though to the hoarder everything kept has a cherished value in their lives. The hard truth is that this stuff is preventing them from advancing in life. As the hoa choir director, before we normally pray out, began talking about things that were going on in his life, and was undeniably on the brink of tears. After he prayed, God ushered me to start an intercessory prayer on behalf of our choir director. Then, God just moved throughout that rehearsal. After His Spirit gradually simmered down, the President of the choir approached me and suggested me to consider becoming Chaplain over Heavenly Voices. Then through many other encounters, she asked me in a playfully serious tone if I was interested in being Chaplain,

and I gave her an enthused yes.

At the beginning of this semester, I began my position as Chaplain over Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir and one of things I have started, and continued doing, are HV (Heavenly Voices) Weekly’s, or weekly writings that consist of words of encouragement, wisdom, learning, or knowledge. In other words, I submit somewhat of a mini article of what I write for NTLC’s monthly newsletter. If you guys don’t mind, I want to share with you all what I shared with them for our first HV Weekly, but just a bit more in detailed.

As the sun beamed through any cloud present this one Sunday morning, I got up to attend Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and surprisingly enough, they were having a women's conference/service going on that day. About midway during service, after offering but before the message, the women's choir sung their final selection for service. I honestly don't remember what the song was called, but the song's recurring theme was that God is working it out for you. As the choir began to repeat that God is working it out for

you, God's Spirit began to minister to the people. As I literally felt swamped with confirmation that everything is already fine for my current status, God dropped in my mind and spirit that things are already worked out for me. But what really got me giddy, and put a smile on my face, was not that God has already made us the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, victorious and not defeated, but He still is with us through our storms working things out right along our side. Two words: Too Awesome!

God already knows that we are going to be faced with trials and tribulations, and go through things we rather not go through, but in the midst of experiencing these things He's working things out. He will never place more on you than you can bare, and He will work everything out for your good, whether you see it or not. Isaiah 43:2 says, “When you go through deep waters and great trouble I will be with you. When you do through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When

you walk through the fire oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” But my favorite part about this scripture is that when we walk through the fire, we shall NOT be burned. This scripture specifically acknowledges that we are inevitably going to have struggles, tribulations, problems, and issues. But God, Himself, said that when we experience these different circumstances, regardless of how difficult, impossible, and impassible they may be, they shall not burn us. In other words, the power and dominion that your circumstances should have over you will literally be negated because of God’s Glory and Presence.

Then Isaiah goes on to say in verse 5 to “Fear not: for I am with you.” I mean goodness, it baffles me to know that God literally has everything wrapped up, concealed, and positioned to where it needs to be. The main ingredient for this recipe is that we pray and trust Him. He has everything under control. Even when we don’t trust Him, He still will provide a way of escape because He is that God. Praise your name God! When

classes seem chaotic, teachers appear difficult, the family seems messed up, folk at your job are being immeasurably misunderstanding, or life seems more hectic than usual. It seems like no one has your back, and God doesn’t appear to be anywhere near you. TRUST HIM! Ecclesiastes 7:8 says "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof." Better is when God brings you out of a circumstance mightier than ever, than when you were in the beginning of it, confused, perplexed, and worried. He is so good! God will make your enemies a footstool. His word never returns back to His people void. God will make a way, and if that doesn’t bring it home for you, God Will!

Case closed. Period! When you can't do anything

else, Trust Him because He's

working on what is already worked out.
