Coach Dianne asked class members to stand with their feet hipdistance apart and to tie the band just above the knee joint butnot on the knee joint. The exercise is performed by slightlybending the knees with the hands on the thighs, keeping the backstraight and lifting the right leg wide and placing it on the floorinto a squat. This is repeated on the left leg. In most of CoachDianne’s classes this is performed perfectly, but not in this one.Just look at Timmy, how does he do it? He is twisted again.’Poor Timmy!

Are you wondering what will BE-happening with Coach Dianne next month? Tune in and find out.

New BE-ginningwith CoachDianneAttending Coach Dianne’s class is

always fun. Today it was band work and Polly, Timmy, Pablo and Becca weregoing to do the sumo exercise. Timmyasked Coach ‘Why is it called the sumo?’Coach Dianne replied ‘Because I said so!’ We don’t argue with the Coach.

The client Mr. Ahmed was so pleased with the work he had carried out on his and hispartners home that he offered the contract to build a new extension to his restaurantand completely renovate the existing interior. The brief was on a strict time scale of 3weeks as Mr. Ahmed was concerned that he may lose business especially fromregulars, if he was closed too long.

Lindsey Walker the Project Manager from Devlin Walker Developments, wasresponsible for keeping to the strict time frame which required her team to work 7days a week to meet the deadline, no mean task given the huge amount of workrequired.

Lindsay’s first task was to work on the interior design which had to include a 3Dpanelled feature wall and to put her team of first class tradesman together.

After having got all the relevant quotes for labour and materials which includedbuilding works, drainage, additional air conditioning units, removing all currentcatering equipment and re-installing in a newly designed kitchen area (which nowincludes a cold room). Plus all the other necessities involved on a job of this size, electrics, plumbing, heating and decoration. She also dealt with Building Control,Environmental Health and Trading Standards to ensure all regulations had beenadhered to.

Working closely with Mr. Ahmed and dealing with extras as well as unforeseencircumstances, Lindsay and her team completed the work on time and to budget. If you’re looking for that extra room in your home or business, give Lindsay a call on07702 876903 you won’t be disappointed.

“Celebrating a decade of Jolsha”

Thank you for bearing with us whilst we gavethe restaurant a brand new makeover. We’vecreated a new layout with more spacious

We are now back open and running so be sure to take a look in the newlyformed, Norton’s finest Indian dining. Jolsha’s door welcomes you again in its10th anniversary.

Nuffield Health seeks secondary school to launch ground-breaking Head of Wellbeing pilot for pupils and teachers

Secondary schools across the North Eastare being urged to put themselves forwardas potential candidates for a ground-breaking pilot open to schools across theUK, which will see a Head of Wellbeingseconded to the school, in a bid to helpcombat rising levels of poor physical andmental health among pupils and teachers.

Nuffield Health has committed to lead, fund and evaluate the initiative– the firstof its kind – which includes thedevelopment and implementation of a twoyear health and wellbeing programme. And, ahead of May’s general election, thenot for profit healthcare provider is urgingall political parties to make health andwellbeing in schools a priority.

Nuffield Health’s own commitment to the pilot directly follows the findings of its recent jointstudy with think tank 2020health. The report highlighted significant areas of concern andunmet need - including low levels of exercise, high levels of obesity and poor emotionalwellbeing – which could be vastly improved with dedicated, coordinated support within theschool setting.

Among the findings:• 75% of school children and young people living with mental illness go undiagnosed• Half of all diagnosable mental health conditions are thought to start before the age of 14 and 75% by the age of 21• 24% of 11-15 year old boys were recorded as obese in 2011 - among the highest levels ever recorded• Children aged 10-19 years account for over half (55 per cent) of admissions to hospitals for eating disorders• 73% of teaching staff said their job had a negative impact on their health and wellbeing

Dr Andrew Jones, Nuffield Health’s Managing Director, Wellbeing, said:

"At a time when conditions like obesity and mental illness are on the rise in childrenand young adults, there is clearly a need to invest in proactive and preventative healthand wellbeing initiatives in schools.

This area continues to be neglected and underfunded and of all the manifesto pledgesthat have been made in the last few weeks, there has been little mention of improvingthe wellbeing of pupils and teachers in secondary schools. We are looking for a school to take part in our pilot who shares our vision for a healthy, productive and creative environment. This initiative has the potential to transformwellbeing in schools, by providing effective support and infrastructure, setting abenchmark for UK primary and secondary schools to aspire to."

The two year pilot will begin in September 2015 and see Nuffield Health invest significantlyinto the school, providing state-of-the-art fitness facilities and equipment and developing awellbeing strategy, in collaboration with the school, to meet their individual needs and thoseof their community. As part of a range of services, a 12-point Health MOT* will be offered toall teachers and a unique health check to pupils, with particular focus on nutrition, exerciseand emotional wellbeing.

Dr Sarah Wollaston MP, Chair of the Health Select Committee is backing the initiative,“Young people who are experiencing mental health problems benefit from support atthe earliest opportunity. It is vital too, to focus on prevention and wellbeing and I amdelighted to support this pilot of a head of wellbeing in schools, as it has the potentialto benefit staff and pupils alike.”Independent evaluation of the pilot will be carried out by the Work Foundation, a leading isprovider of research-based analysis.

Star Profile

Gossip took time out to sitwith Sally and Sarah to findout why care and support isneeded for some people athome."Care and support is the helpsome people need to enablethem continue to liveindependently in their ownfamiliar surroundings” Sallytells us. Gossip discoverd thatwhether it be for yourself or afamily member you are ingood hands with Sally andSarah Care. They know onlytoo well the social andpersonal requirements ofpeople who need assistanceand understand their desire todeal with them with dignity.

They explained, 'an illness or memory problem doesn't just affect that one person, itaffects all the family. In many situations we know that somewhere along the line wemay have to call for support for a loved one or ourselves. It might be for someonefacing a terminal illness or an elderly parent or relative who has just had a dementiadiagnosis or are simply too frail to cope with all the domestic chores.'

Whatever the reason no one wants to spend too much time dwelling on life’s ‘what-ifs and butsand it’s all too easy, and natural, to put the decisions off for another day. However, as Sally andSarah tell us 'we meet a lot of people who say; I wish I’d heard about you last week'.

It is very clear that at Sally & Sarah they are totally focused on treating everyone with dignity andrespect and they make life better for those they care for. As they themselves say 'caring’ forsomeone covers lots of different things, like helping with their washing, dressing oreating, taking them to regular appointments or keeping them company when they feellonely or anxious. We work with all clients and their families but are very consciousnot to "take over'.

One of their clients was more than thrilled toshare their thoughts 'Sally and Sarah Carehave looked after my Mother for 3 years.Prior to that Mum had struggled with therevolving door of different carers andcare companies - all too busy to reallyattend to her individual needs. Since Sallyand Sarah Care took over theimprovements in Mum's physical andmental health has been remarkable - sheis so very happy - I believe the changesare down to the staff really caring and allthe things they do for her.

What we all love about Sally & Sarah Care is the total involvement they have in Mumslife - they take time over her, sit with her and talk to her about her past and about upand coming events, one of the Carers even put stickers in her diary to remind her of allthe family birthdays, now that's special.I really can't recommend the company highly enough - but I know who I would like tocare for me in my dotage.'

Sally & Sarah have a lot of experience in the field of caring and know that life is unpredictable andwhen the bad stuff happens it can strike unexpectedly, so it’s always worth having a back-up inyour armoury, should you need it. Sally & Sarah are at pains to point out 'the simple fact is thatthe important choices you make about care are yours to make, either for yourself or arelative, you are in charge and capable of making the decisions that are the right fit foryou and here at Sally & Sarah Care we are flexible to the needs of the client, visiting attimes to suit, assisting with anything that is needed and we can guarantee continuity ofcare'.

Two years ago this month, Marianne Robsonturned her jewellery-making passion into abusiness and opened Made By Marianne at 24High Street, Stockton.

Originally from Norway, Marianne moved to Englandin 1992 after marrying husband Dave, a reporter atThe Gazette, and has lived in Ingleby Barwick for thepast 15 years. The mum-of-two is actually a trained journalist, butthe more she began creating her own jewellery, themore she wanted to work with and share the giftsMother Nature provides in the form of glorious semi-precious gemstones and pearls.Using her Scandinavian eye for detail, flair for designand love of colour, Marianne began creating stunningjewellery which drew admiring comments from allwho saw and wore it - and that’s when the hobbybecame a business. She spent 10 months nurturing her fledglingbusiness at Stockton’s Enterprise Arcade beforetaking the plunge and, in April 2013, going it aloneat 24 High Street. And before long, she had built up a loyal following

of customers who couldn’t - and still can’t - resisther unqiue, beautiful yet amazingly affordablecreations. The Made by Marianne shop, sandwiched betweenFatso’s and Manners and Harrison at the parishchurch end of High Street, is truly a little gem andpacked with wonderful, individually made jewellery- ideal as a gift, or to wear yourself.Indeed, Marianne - who feels passionately that localpeople should support great local businesses -hopes to see you there, as there’s nothing like seeingand touching jewellery “in the flesh” to fullyappreciate its beauty. And if you have a specific gemstone or design inmind, Marianne will work with you to produce theperfect bespoke piece. But if you can’t make it down town, all is not lost -she also has a website: www.madebymarianne.co.uk, and an Etsy shop. And rest assured, whether at the shop or online, youwon’t find anything mass produced as two years onand still going strong, the items she sells are stillvery much Made by Marianne.

A sparkling second annniversary is in store for one of Stockton’s true gems.

Hosts get the fit factor for FreeEvery day people are discovering the benefits of part time dogownership when they become hosts for local pet care companyBarking Mad.

Many of us are looking to improve our lifestyles, and we all know thebenefits of having a dog – better health, lower stress levels and a morerobust immune system – but what about the cost? Food and vet billscan be astronomical, so how can we get all of the benefits withouthaving to spend anything?

Barking Mad offers a unique and professional alternative to kennels. The company is going from strength to strength and as a result theowner Tracy Johnston is keen to recruit additional host families inTeesside and the surrounding areas, in order to keep up with thecontinued demand for the service.

As a host you would enjoy all the benefits of dog companionshipwithout any of the full time or financial commitments. We carefullymatch pets with the right host families who continue the dogs’ homelife routines for exercising, feeding and of course that all important TLC.

One very happy host says “Barking Mad put a smile back on my face.‘No more dogs’, I thought when our lovely Dachshund Sally sadlypassed away, but suddenly there was complete silence. I’d go shoppingjust to pet every dog I walked past, until I saw a small advertisement,‘seeking hosts for dogs on holiday’. I rang that number and into mylife came a small army of four-legged friends of all shapes, sizes, colours and personalities, so I need dogs in my life, with their trustingeyes, soft mouths and wagging tails. Barking Mad, you gave me backmy smile, thank you!”

As the weather turns milder and the sun begins to creep outthoughts start to turn to the garden. There are lots of jobs to keepyou busy in your garden in April.

Lawn careYour lawn should have had itsfirst cut of the season. If not getout and give it a good cut andtidy up all the edges. If yourlawn is looking a bit patchy oversow any bare areas with grassseed. If it’s beyond repair andyou want instant results why notlay a new lawn now while it hastime to bed in before thesummer.

Jet washingGet rid of all the winter grime from your decking, patio, drivewaysand garden furniture by giving it all a good jet wash.

VegetablesIf you want to have some home grown veg to enjoy later in theseason, this month is the ideal time to get sewing vegetable andherb seeds. If you don’t feel confident growing them from seedpop down to your local garden centre and buy some plants, thiswould be better towards the end of April when the chance of afrost has lessened.

PlantsGet out and give your large plants, rose bushes and shrubs a goodfeed. Now’s also the ideal time to plant perennial flowers to fillyour beds with colour come the Summer – remember to plantthem in odd numbers, 3, 5 or 7 of the same plant.

Build a bug houseEntertain the kids for an hour or two by building a bug house. Useleftover pieces of wood, trellis, broken plant pots and bamboocanes to create a place to encourage insects.National Gardening week runs from 13th April 2015 with lots offree events taking place go to www.nationalgardeningweek.org.ukfor more information.

Animal MagicCarin and Colin are a pleasure to meet and it is heartening toknow their love of animals shines through, as they say 'Weknow how much you love your pets but we love our workwith your pets just as much'...

One of the main things I wanted to know is what type of training have they had tocarry out this work and they told me 'we are both expertly trained as holisticbehaviourists and received our training with Sheila Harper at the InternationalDog Behaviour Training School (IDBTS) now known as the InternationalProgramme for Applied Canine Study (IPACS).'

Carin went on to explain that she originally started her education with Jan Fennelland has since developed her skills, techniques and philosophy with Colinthrough Sheila Harper.

Carin and Colin both practiceApplied Zoopharmacognosy asan amazing (and quite oftenmind blowing) extra tool. Theycan help animals that have deeprooted fears, phobias, pasttraumas and health concerns andsay they feel very privileged tohave been personally trained byCaroline Ingraham, who is theworld’s leading expert in thissubject, and are dedicated tocontinuing her work.

Their success, using AppliedZoopharmacognosy, extends tohorse owners. This method is aself-selection medicationmethod and it has brought about some truly amazing results. If you have aconcern with your horse then 99 times out of 100 Zoopharmacognosy can dealwith this and possibly spare you huge and ongoing vet bills. Go totheir Zoopharmacognosy or Equine web page for more details.

Colin then started to explain about the latest healing service they do called theTrust Technique. Colin has been down to Surrey to work with the founder of TheTrust Technique, James French and is now well on his to becoming a fullpractitioner in this field as well.

The Trust Technique is a new and unique tool that brings people and animalstogether with the collaboration of healing and communicating. Carin and Colinteach animal owners in very simple form how to resolve their issues with theirpets and thus the feeling of being stuck, afraid or frustrated. They show you thatthere is no such thing as a badly behaved animal, but more a cry for help to theperson they love. The great thing about Trust technique is it is easy, simple andcan be done by anyone with any animal, dogs, cats, horses, cattle, goats, rabbitsetc…The Trust technique helps people build confidence with the situation becausethey see it improving in front of their eyes and this then builds trust between theowner and the animal. How lovely is that? It helps deal with all sorts of issuesfrom fear of strangers to other animals, past traumas and recent experiences. Most importantly it is about the owner and their animal working together.

Throughout our conversation, which I found fascinating, Carin and Colin told methey work with a wide range of people from pet owners to breeders andhorse/livery yard owners. Their focus is to help them all to manage issues thatinclude fear phobias (fireworks, men etc…) to health concerns or skinconditions and allergies, even to helping animals get over past traumas, separation or loss, anxiety and stress related problems.

Dealing with these type of problems can be frustrating but Carin and Colinexplained 'When you get frustrated this feeling is shared with your pet, soalthough you may achieve your goal and get your dog to do something, you needto be asking yourself “What price am I paying for that?” sometimes the realityturns out to be pretty scary.

We all know that animals, like us, can have pain problems. Carin and Colin saythat pain for an animal comes in many forms. It could come from old scar tissueor muscle, tendon and/or ligament damage, inflammation, stomach or digestionissues and even stress and anxiety. This means the dog, or horse for that matter, needs to be free to communicate and make you aware of exactly what is causingthe pain and where the pain is. This is critical in dealing with pain related issues. However the most common issues they face with animal owners is excessive

barking, pulling, jumping up, overexcitability and aggression withdogs, and bullying, eating, laminitisand fearful, aggressive behaviourwith horse owners. These are allusually linked with stress for onereason or another and exactly whythey keep repeating you never get abadly behaved animal, you areseeing communication. The moreintense it is the more they areshouting to be heard.

On a personal level Carin and Colinrecently adopted a rescue dog,Marmaduke. He was severelytraumatised over a period of yearsthey are now all going through aheart-warming experience usingtheir skills, knowledge and love. You can follow the progress of thehandsome Marmaduke by eithergoing to their blog link page, or youcould log directly onto

www.naturaldogsense.blogspot.com or become his friend on his facebook page(Marmaduke Goodall).

EVERYTHING that Carin and Colin do is kind, gentle and simple but mostimportantly it makes sense to the animals. They do not use gadgets, force orintimidation and they also have a huge belief that educating the owners is just asimportant as supporting and teaching the animal.

No matter what your concern is, get in touch with them and their message to youis 'Please don't think your concerns are not worth bothering us about. A lot ofissues start off as little and if nipped in the bud they are dealt with relativelyquickly. Why wait until it has you at the end of your tether.'

The outgoing model found much family loveat some 56200 UK households and will be atough act to follow. No fear here this is trulya huge step forward and opens up a wholenew abundance of conquest customers.Having had the privilege of owning RangeRovers, Range Rover Sports, BMW X5 and X6to name a few of the large SUVs available, I’dnever before considered buying an XC90. Mywife currently drives a Merc Benz GL 7-seaterwhich we affectionately call the “Hearse”, dueto its gargantuan size. This was one of thereasons why the outgoing model wasn’tconsidered.

The new XC90 now has 7-seats as standardwith the rear two seats being the same size asthe middle row while access is also easy asthe middle seats slide forward giving amplespace to manoeuvre a large adult comfortablyinto their seat.

There will be 3 powertrains offered initiallythe 221bhp D5 turbo diesel (from £45,750),the 315bhp supercharged and turbochargedpetrol T6 (from £49,200) – both mated to an8-speed auto gearbox and a Haldex 4-wheel–drive system. These are available from Junewith the £59,995 Twin Engine T8 beingavailable in October.

The T8 Hybrid boasts an impressive output of394bhp with 59g/km of CO2. The frontwheels are driven with power from the T6engine and the rear via a single e-motor, withthe battery nestling in the redundanttransmission tunnel. Two wheel-drive modelswill follow.

Standard equipment includes: Sat-Nav, LEDActive Bending and Active High Beamheadlights, DAB radio and a powered tailgate.

Auto Express said, “It’s the interior that’smost striking, and one of the best car cabinswe’ve been in”. “It’s a lesson in how a wellintegrated touchscreen can maximise aminimalist design- there are only 8 buttonson the dash, with the rest of the controls takencare of by the 9 inch portrait-orientated iPadstyle screen”.

The car is expected to return 48.7mpg for theD5, and the Hybrid T8 a staggering112.9mpg.

I hope that’s wet some of your appetites togive this next generation Volvo a place onyour one to consider list. My wife has alreadyadded it to her list.

PRE VOLVO XC9OTEST DRIVEUPDATEI’m hoping to get my hands on the new XC90 in May but prior tothat I just wanted to share some of the hype this car is creatingin the motoring press. I can’t remember the last time Volvo gotthis much attention when it came to the pre-launch of one oftheir vehicles.

One such headline from Auto Express stated “Volvo build a Range Rover at a fraction of the price”. Car Dealer magazine said “A new kind of luxurycar experience”. Finally CAR magazine said “I am the resurrection”.

Volvo themselves are billing their new XC90, vanguard of an all-new generation of Volvos, as nothing less than the rebirth of the marque. Right nowthis XC90 is box-fresh, but within four years it’ll be the oldest car in Volvo’s range.
