FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Carers Welcome back to another busy term of learning! We also welcome Mrs Kate Wilson and Mrs Amanda Malone to our school office in permanent roles! Congratulations to both Kate and Amanda! Kate will now be working with us for five days a week and Amanda for two days. Kate has accepted a relieving position from Week 4 this term and during this time will be replaced by Mrs Fiona Kimber. Gates Please be advised that all exterior gates will be locked every day at 9:05am in the morning. Gates will reopen from 2:45pm to 3:20pm in the afternoons. Access to the office is through the main gate on Webb Street. All visitors (parents, carers, workers) must report to the office if you are visiting during school hours. Mother’s Day Morning The morning will begin from 8-9am for all families and students K-6, with muffins and tea/coffee being provided for a gold coin donation. At 9:15am, K-2 families are then invited to the hall to watch some special performances. NAPLAN Next week our students in Years 3 and 5 will be completing the NAPLAN Assessments in Writing, Language Conventions (a combination of Spelling and Grammar and Punctuation), Reading and Numeracy. We know that our students will try to do their very best in these assessments. We cannot ask for more than that. Skin Cancer Clinic Car Park I have had another call from the Skin Cancer Clinic in regards to parents parking in their private car park before and after school. This has resulted in a number of patients having to walk a considerable distance as there was no parking left in the clinic. We are aware that parking is a considerable problem due to there being four schools in this area and especially the number of senior students that park in Webb St. However the Skin Cancer Clinic car park is a private car park and must not be used by parents P & C Meeting A reminder that the next P&C meeting is on next Tuesday 12 th June in the staff room commencing at 7:00pm. Your attendance will be welcomed. Stewart House Envelopes Stewart House is the ‘NSW Public Education’s Charity of Choice’. It supports around 1800 students annually. Donation drive envelopes were sent home earlier this week and can be returned to school with $2 enclosed and your details on the back before Tuesday 15 th May to be in the running for a $4000 holiday to a destination of your choice. Netball and Basketball Teams Best wishes to both our netball and basketball teams who are participating in the NSW PSSA Knockout Competition throughout the next couple of weeks. Thanks also to our coaches Miss Roberts, Mrs Rorich and Mr Travica. We know that the students selected will represent themselves and our school positively and proudly. PBL

(Positive Behaviour for Learning)

Over the last two weeks we have been discussing appropriate behaviour in bus lines and while travelling

on a bus.

We show respect to ourselves and others by staying seated and speaking quietly.

We are responsible by making sure we board and exit transport safely and move straight from

class to bus lines in the afternoon.

We ensure we are super learners by being a positive ambassador for our school and by

following community rules such as offering our seats to adults.

Over the next fortnight we will be practising positive behaviour when we visit the school office.

At Gosford East Public School we are Respectful, Responsible Learners!

SCHOOL NEWS AND EVENTS

Page 4: GOSFORD EAST PUBLIC SCHOOL

Last week our school received some amazing resources that were ordered through the 2017 Woolworths Earn and Learn promotion. Both teachers and students were excited to see the new art & craft, music, math’s and literacy resources that will be used throughout the school. Thank you to all our wonderful GEPS families for collecting the stickers and supporting our school. Thank you to Mel Hogston and the P&C for organising this promotion on behalf of our school. The resources we received were valued at over $1500 and will be of great benefit to our students.

All Gosford East Public School students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will begin the NSW Premier’s Primary School Sport Challenge this week. It is a school-based challenge that aims to engage young people in sport and physical activity and encourages them to lead healthy, active lifestyles. Students participate in the 10 week challenge by accumulating time spent in a broad range of sports and recreational activities during lunchtimes, recess, school sport and P.E programs, class time, after school and weekend sports. Students who complete the challenge will receive a certificate. The school also receives funding towards purchasing new sports equipment if students are successful in completing their challenge. The exciting news about this year is there is also a staff challenge so you may see some very fit teachers out and about the playground throughout the term as they participate alongside the students.
