CHOOSING A FIELD OF VIEW (FOV)
SUPERVIEW
P O C K E T G U I D E
All GoPro cameras feature three standard fields of view (FOV): Wide, Medium and Narrow. The wider the angle, the larger the image.
Every GoPro also has SuperView™, our exclusive FOV that captures the world’s most immersive wide-angle perspective.
HERO5 cameras also feature the new Linear FOV.

CHOOSING AN ASPECT RATIO
All GoPro cameras utilize two aspect ratios: 16:9 and 4:3. Standard television and editing programs all use 16:9. Footage shot in 4:3 is 33% taller but must be cropped down to 16:9 for playback on a TV. All 4:3 footage that’s not cropped will appear with black bars on the sides of the image.
• 16:9 resolutions: 4K, 2.7K, 1080p, 480p/WVGA
• 4:3 resolutions: 2.7K 4:3, 1440p, 960p

CHOOSING A FRAME RATE (FPS)Frame rate, or frames per second, is the speed at which the video is recorded, or more specifically, the number of individual video frames recorded per second. For example: 1080p 30fps is 30 individual frames captured every second while recording in 1080p resolution. Choosing the right frame rate depends on the lighting conditions, the type of shot you are capturing and whether you want slow motion playback.
BRIGHT LIGHT
LOW LIGHT
higher frame rate• Bright lighting conditions• Fast-action shots• Slow-motion playback
lower frame rate• Darker lighting conditions• Slow-to-moderate action shots
This GoPro exclusive FOV creates ultra engaging footage of every adventure by dynamically stretching 4:3 footage to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Capture a straight horizon with your GoPro. Photographers will love it for the more natural perspective.

Resolution is a measure of how large the video frame size is. It is the main factor in determining the overall quality, clarity and detail of a specific mode. Higher resolutions will show more detail in video than lower resolutions. Shoot in 1080p30 or 1080p60 for playback and sharing on mobile devices, using Capture.

QUIK™
This feature automatically captures photos at set intervals, from 0.5 to 60 seconds. You can also capture time lapse videos at the same intervals.
Pro Handlebar/Seatpost/Pole Mount
This shot works best when the camera is 4ft away from the subject. You can make it even easier by simply holding the camera at arm’s length.
For short-duration fast-action activities, we recommend 30/3 Burst. Use 30/6 Burst for slower action shots.

When you begin a project, think about the story you want to tell in terms of a beginning, middle and end. This will save you tons of time when you go to edit what you’ve shot. When a story is truly directed from the beginning, it can be far more powerful.
