GOAL CONTROL FOR THE BRAZUCA

Goal-line technology is set to feature at the FIFA World Cup for the first time as a support line for match officials. After a successful contract during the FIFA Confederations Cup, GoalControl GmbH have been selected to install their goal-line technology, GoalControl-4D in 12 host stadiums across Brazil.

GoalControl is a specialist in real-time image analysis in sporting events.

• It is a system of 14 high speed cameras (500Hz) at strategic positions elevated around the pitch, with 7 focused on each goal from various specific angles.

• Throughout the game, the ball’s position is continuously tracked in 3D.

• As the ball approaches the goal line more camera angles are recruited, automatically identifying the position and trajectory of the ball on X, Y and Z coordinates.

The GoalControl software system removes all objects other than the ball and can indicate whether the goal is scored or the ball remains in play.

Accurate to within 5mm, the system wirelessly notifies the referee with a simultaneous vibration and visual signal on his watch if the ball crosses the line.
