• Online Office Suite (one of the first and biggest “cloud” applications);

We use it…The library uses Google News to monitor Current Awareness.

When working with monitoring tools like Google News to build products and services, you always need to keep in mind that Google “fetches” the articles and then you do the “real” analysis to determine what’s good and what’s not.

– RSS is a tool that captures frequently updated web content, such as blog posts and news articles

Step 1:Locate the RSS icon, which is usually at the very top or bottom of a webpage.

Don’t be discouraged if you can’t find the RSS icon immediately– some websites will modify the normally orange icon to match the colour scheme of their website.

Step 2: Choose the type of RSS feed you’d like to subscribe to. Most websites will give you the option to subscribe to all posts, or only posts that cover a specific area of interest.

We will choose “All Slaw posts”

• G-Reader gives you the ability to search any specific feed, folder of feeds, or all of your subscriptions.• Less need to ‘scan’ all items when you are looking for specific information



MONITORING: Google Reader• No RSS feed? No problem! (well, maybe just a couple

problems)

• You will receive an update anytime the webpage is changed in anyway (not just every time a new article is posted)

• Ex: if the author of the webpage changes a comma to a semi-colon, you will get an update

• This is a helpful feature if you are desperate for a feed from a particular site, but it is not a perfect solution

Create an alert for any specific search. You will be notified when there is a new article that matches your search term

their website’s specific needs• Add only the websites, or specific webpages you’d like your

custom search engine to include• The OWTL website will soon have it’s very own Google

There are 590 specific webpages and full websites in our G-CSE that best suit our clients information needs.

When users visits the OWTL website and use our search function, we can ensure that they will only retrieve relevant information from reliable news sources/blogs and government websites.
