ZaNorte provincial govt gives

Tuesday 17th of July 2012DIPOLOG CITY, JULY 17 (PIA) --One hundred thirty membersof the native Kalibugan and Subanen tribes in ZamboangadelNorte have availed of the scholarship grants extended by theProvincial Government of the province through the ProvincialIndigenous Coordinating Unit(PICU).

Bai Cristina Andus, current head of the PICU, said thescholarship grant which covers technical and vocational coursesaims to strengthen the Subanen Empowerment Program of Gov.Rolando E. Yebes.

Among the courses offered under the scholarship grant includefarm tractor machinery operator/maintenance at the PAIC,Barangay Irasan, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte, Dipolog Schoolof Fisheries in Olingan, Dipolog City; automotive servicing in

Sindangan; hito and tilapia culture at Barangay Dumalogdog,Sindangan, dress-making at Barangay Diwan, Dipolog City; andbeautycare(haircut,manicure,pedicure)in Katipunan, Zamboangadel Norte.

Aside from free tuition fees, scholars are also provided with freefood, lodging and school supplies with the assistance of theTechnical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Subanen Empowerment Program and other services andassistance implemented by PICU under the Yebes administrationto the lumads of the province has been considered as one of thereasons why Gov. Yebes has been accorded the Galing PooKAward last year.(JPA/ATR/PIA9-Zambo Norte)
