“Strawberry Ridge Golf Course” in Zelienople, Pa. has easy ac-cess from I-79; the ride and getting here are effortless. Just two miles North of Zelienople and an easy drive from Pittsburgh too.

She has come a long way since it opened ten years ago! The course is still affordable and the layout combines simplicity and ease with rugged terrain that demands dead solid perfect striking of the ball.

An afternoon or outing here is time well spent. “The Ridge Pub” is a delightful restaurant that looks and feels like a rustic log cabin. It provides vistas of the 18th green from her dinning room. If enjoying the great outdoors wets your appetite; then enjoy sitting out on the front porch or high above on the deck overlooking the course. The food at The Ridge Pub is “EXCEL-LENT”! Try the Onion Rings; best in the Burgh!

The driving range allows you to warm up before your round or just stop by to bang some balls at your leisure. The facility is also opening a “Pitch and Putt” practice area too.

This Par 70 track comes in at 6,000 yards. She’s short; but mighty powerful! Tim & Ann McNulty own and operate the facility. Their personal story is inspiring and the stuff that the “American Dream” is made off. Over ten years ago Tim wanted to build a golf course on what was farm land and a strawberry field. When you play here remember Tim and his team built this course rock by rock, green by green, pond by pond, tee box to tee box with hard work and sweat.

Using the natural topography she is a days work indeed. Tim has built a course that allows you to shoot “Par” or even “Eagle” on some holes. All you have to do is find the groove of your swing plane and it’s simple enough.

However, just when you thought; “This course is easy.” Well Buckaroo, button your chin strap and fasten your seat belt; because the ride’s just started. The true challenge of this course is its design and layout. Hole # 2 is a true testimonial to this. It’s a par 5 - 483 Yard beast. It is one of the finest holes in the area as well. Her elevated tee’s rise over a hundred yards above the distant and far off green. Water comes into play on the left; so you hookers beware. Her green falls dramatically off to the right and will eat you alive if you slice it.

Hole 14 is a par 4 at 293 yards. Once again you are high above the fairway and landing area. The test here is to keep it safe to the left. The green it self is a massive target; but don’t let that fool you. It’s right side is death valley.

If you truly love the game of golf, you will appreciate this course on many levels. Understand that no big corporation built it with millions of dollars. Instead one man, Tim Mc-Nulty, with a dream designed it and moved heaven and earth to create a work of love. Know that some holes will allow you to score and others will have you wanting to go back to the tee box and try it again; now that you know how to play it!

Your experience at Strawberry Ridge will be fun, enjoyable and memorable. They are open for outings, groups and events or just stop by and enjoy the food and ambiance of the club-house!

Lenape Heights in Ford City has to be on your must play list. This is truly a great golf experience. The stunning vistas, the unique-ness and design of each hole. If you aren’t tested, challenged, de-lighted and satisfied after playing at Lenape; then brother you are hard to please. Here you will find that the greens roll fast and that you must read every putt with care. Each green is unique. Some slope back to-wards the fairway, others can be hit from an elevated fairway, one awaits from across a pond. These are some of the very best greens in the region.

Page 13: Golfing Around Summer 2012

No two holes are alike at Lenape; each has it’s own distinct flavor and charm, The terrain is a rugged combination of elevated tees and greens. Downhill Par 3’s & 5’s are plentiful. This is truly one of the best tracks you can play. If it were a private club; you would be asking your friend to get you on somehow.

If you are coming from Pittsburgh it’s an easy, simple and scenic drive up Route 28 North to Ford City. It’s all open highway so it takes no time at all to get here. From Greensburg, Latrobe, Indiana, Beaver County and Ohio she’s easy to get to. Make sure you bring every club in your bag because this is a course that de-mands creative shot making.

Lenape Heights plays and performs to country club standards of excellence,

but here’s her little secret:

She’s very affordable.

Once you have finished your round head into the opulent clubhouse that overlooks the valley and pro-vides breathtaking views of the course and mountains. Food and dinning are as important as the golf here.

Lenape Heights was already won-derful. But ever in the chase of perfection; they have recently completed new renovations! The restaraunt now has a more formal atmosphere and the bar area has an European flavor. It’s hard to im-prove on perfection, but they did it!

Lenape Heights is getting better and better every day for one rea-son: the owners and the employ-ees care. This is their home and they want you to feel like it’s your home club. “LISTEN!” The food at Lenape Heights is perfection on a plate! If the restaurant at Lenape Heights were in downtown Pitts-burgh, it would be packed morn-ing, afternoon and night with sat-isfied, stuffed and happy diners! Weddings and Banquets are often arranged by repeat customers who have grown to love the service, style and quality provided by the staff. They put a lot of care and time into making sure your event goes off the way you dreamed. Bot-tom line they care about you.

In late Summer a new twenty room suite hotel will open on site. Con-sidering the style, quality and at-tention to standards they always pursue, the new hotel will provide travelers and guests with a won-derful stay.

Sunice’s new line of outerwear offers an eye-popping combination of high tech practicality and protection to an element of “look at me” stylishness. I wore a windbreaker in Cuba in November, a fleece jacket in Thailand on cool evenings and scrambled around the ruins of Buddhist temples in Cambodia in March and was perfectly served by this elegant yet simple outerwear.

Back in April, the early Back in April, the early rounds of a perennially cold spring, were made pleasant by layering fleece and windbreaker while maintaining my fashionista persona. Step inside into the confines of a cozy clubhouse and the fleece suffices to brighten the bar with a variety of colors which evoke smiles from admiring mates and ladies. No wonder that this clothing has been chosen as the team attire for the Solheim Cup and other international events.

This clothing This clothing stands up to repeated washings and maintains its structural integrity. It is clothing which aims to please and succeeds.

Sunice rocks!

Miura Golf is known for its unerring commitment to craftsmanship, so when the company made the decision to introduce hybrids to their line it was no surprise that it coincided with the hiring of Adam Barr as the company’s new president. Adam is a Mt. Lebanon native and has a law degree from the Duquesne!

OOffered in 20 and 23-degree models, the MG is as beautiful as it is functionally effective. Mr. Barr encouraged me to expect the same feel as a solid hit with a forged iron and he was dead on. Looking down at one’s ball at address, the view inspires confidence as the 43mm clubface height is precisely the same as the diameter of a golf ball. The black finish of this club is as aesthetically pleasing as the feel of a solid hit with a forged iron; through the hands, arms and shoulders…..straight to the heart.

The head is designed with a “circle cut” which moves the center of gravity….but not not to its lowest point. It is low, but not bottomed out and weight is effectively repositioned to the perimeters. The ball leaves the clubface with surprising velocity, climbing to its apogee and falling gently to earth. This is an implement which builds confidence. Mr. Miura says that “perfection is not a goal to be attained, but rather a rewarding journey of commitment and effort”. The MG hybrid is on that journ journey.
