GENERAL INFORMATION AND RULES
Etiquette of the Game of Golf1. All players should play without undue delay and all groups must
endeavour to remain immediately behind the group in front.
2. No-one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.
3. No player shall play until the players in front are out of range.
4. Before leaving a bunker players should carefully repair all holes made therein and return all rakes to the flat of the bunker.
5. Through the green, a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced is repaired by using sand carried in a bucket and by chipping in the edges of a divot.
6. When the play of a hole has been completed players should leave the green immediately. Marking of cards should not occur until after the hit-off at the next hole.
7. Players searching for a ball (search time is limited to 5 minutes -rule 27) should call the players behind them through without delay. They should not play until those players are out of range.
8. To ensure that all players enjoy all competitions, the following conditions apply to every event
Slow Play Players should ensure they play without undue delay and particular attention should be given to time consuming activities such as: marking of cards, not being ready to hit-off, all players converging on one ball instead of proceeding to their own ball and time spent at half-way. It is the duty and responsibility of the lowest handicapped player in a match to ensure that his playing partner adhere to the Etiquette and Rules of the game, including ensuring that play progresses without undue delay.
Loss of Position If players fail to keep their place in the field the players following them can exercise their right to play through. The players at fault must: a. Make up lost ground without delay, or b. Call those following to go through. If they fail to do so, the players following may indicate that they intend to exercise their right to go through. Rule 6-7 may be applied to the offending parties, penalty 2 strokes.

HonorOn the tee, the first player ready to play should assume the honor as a general rule, otherwise in order of scoring. Cards can be marked after hit-off. Between the tee and the green, players should move to their ball and hit when safe to do so.On the green, players should putt out unless they will damage someone’s line. Players are obliged to pick up immediately they have failed to score in Stableford or Par events.

H 11 H
METHOD OF PLAY FOR SPECIAL EVENTSFoursomes• Partners use one ball.
• The partners hit off alternately from the tee, e.g. one hits off odd numbered tees and his partner hits off even numbered tees and thereafter hit the ball alternately during the play of each hole.
Canadian Twostroke• Both partners hit off the tee.
• The second shot is then played with their own ball.
• One ball is selected for subsequent play and is hit alternately during the play of each hole.
American Foursomes• Both partners hit off and the second shot is played with their
partner’s ball.
• One ball is then selected for subsequent play and is played alternately during the play of each hole.
Canadian Foursomes• Both partners hit off the tee then one ball is selected for
subsequent play and is played alternately during the play of each hole.
Ambrose (may be 2, 3 or 4 person)• The team selects a captain (preferably the lowest marker) who
determines the order of play throughout, marks the card and decides which ball is to be played.
• After each tee shot, other players drop their balls within one club length of the selected ball, no nearer the hole.
• Play continues this way until the putting green is reached. On the green all players must putt out until it is not possible for other players to better the existing score.
• If the selected ball is in the rough or a hazard, the other balls must be dropped in the rough or hazard.
• If the selected ball lies near the putting green you are not permitted to drop or place ball on the putting surface.
H 12 H
METHOD OF PLAY (continued)Bisque Par:This event is a variation of the individual Par competition, where players allocate their full handicap to each hole however they want. After each hole the card is marked with strokes taken, handicap strokes used and the Par result. For example, a player taking 7 strokes on a par 5 where she normally receives 2 strokes, will have a square if she uses 2 of her handicap strokes but if she uses 3 of her handicap strokes she will have a plus; if she only has one shot on that same par 5 hole – 6 is a square (using 1 handicap stroke), 7 is a plus (using 2 handicap strokes). The allocation of handicap strokes will cease once the players full handicap has been used.
Drop-off Ambrose: (may be 3 or 4 persons)All players hit off the tee, then decide which ball is in the best position. If Player A’s ball is used she does not play the next shot but can play the third. If player B’s shot is used instead, player B does not hit until the next shot is played. The player whose ball is selected does not play the next shot. Rough and hazard conditions apply. All players tee off on each hole.
Irish FourballA team event, with 4 players. All players hole out each hole as with an individual Stableford event. Then on nominated holes the best 1 score is recorded…on nominated holes the best 2 scores are recorded…on nominated holes the best 3 scored are recorded.
3 BBB Vs Par A team event with 3 players. Individual Stableford handicap is used for each player. The best score against the fixed score for that hole is the one recorded
