History of Golf
Historians do not agree on the exact origins of the game, but most believe it originated in Scotland over 500 years ago. The name is thought to have come from the Dutch word KOLF, which means club.

Play the ball from a teeing area to a hole, a prescribed distance from the tee, in the fewest strokes possible.
An official round is 18 holes.

The Course
From the tee, the golfer will hit to an area called the fairway, then to the green where the hole is located. The areas to the right/left of the fairway is called the rough.
Most courses contain obstacles in the rough such as – sand traps, bunkers, water hazards, out-of-bounds and trees.

Scoring
The par designation is the number of strokes that an expert would take to play the hole. It usually takes 2 hits to get to the green and 2 to putt the ball in the hole. A score of 1 under par is birdie, 2 under is an eagle, 3 under on a par 5 is a double eagle, 2 under on a par 3 is a golfer’s dream – hole in one!

A set of clubs Includes woods, irons and putters. (2 – 4 – 2 )
3, 5, 7 and 9 irons are recommended
Cost - $75 – to several $100Choose a club that you can control. Consider swing weight and size

Considered a low flying maximum roll shotCUES: Grip – interlocking, overlapping, 10 Stance – narrow / slightly opened or
squared, hands, head and weight in front of ball
Motion – keep lower body movement to a minimum, especially on backswing
Follow-through – swing depends on distance, finish at knee, waist or full

There are many different putting techniques for the short shot.
Grip – finger overlapsStance – puts eyes over ball, crouch
over ball with bent elbowsMotion – initiated with arms, little

Be quiet, know the rules and play without delay, lowest score tees up
No practice shots during play Abstain from loud talk, profanity,
moving around or throwing clubs Player farthest from hole plays first,
be ready, clean traps, replace divots Never play until previous group is out
of range.
