Golden Time - Thomas Russell Junior School

Golden Time Golden Time plays a key role in our Positive Behaviour policy at Thomas Russell Junior School. The full policy can be found on our website should you wish to find out more. But what is it and how does it work? Every child in school is awarded 30 minutes Golden Time, on their class chart, at the start of each week. Children who display the behaviours, attitudes and efforts that we encourage in school will keep their Golden Time. However, children who do not display these behaviours loose Golden Time. Golden Time is lost in five minute blocks and this is shown visually on the class chart by moving down the child’s peg. On a Friday afternoon, after Merit Assembly, the children who have 30 minutes Golden Time have first choice from of a wide range of activities to participate in. The activities can include: art, adventure playground, bench ball, board games, chalking, colouring in, cooking, construction, craft, disco, football, i-pads, lego, movies, paper aeroplanes, playdough, singing, skipping and quizzes. Those children who have lost Golden Time, discuss the reasons why they lost time with Mrs Sharpe and look at ways to ensure they keep their full time next week! They are then able to choose from the activities that are not at full capacity. Our children love Golden Time and value this as a chance to enjoy being with friends and as an opportunity to try different activities. The teachers are always looking for new activities, so if you have any suggestions please tell them! STOP PRESS! GOLDEN TIME UPDATE! During a week of assemblies, linked to responsibility, the children have shared their ideas for activities they would like to see at Golden Time. The teachers are currently working through this list to try to ensure that Golden Time is an exciting and enjoyable time.
