Golden LEAF Foundation

Established as a charitable, tax-exempt foundation in 1999 under court agreement, statute, and charter. The Foundation uses earnings from the principal endowment to make grants and pay operational expenses. NO TAX DOLLARS ARE INVOLVED.

Foundation has over $869 million in net assets and has earned $342 million in investment earnings. $534 million in grants have been awarded. Has earned 6.7 percent per year over last 10 years.

General Assembly diverted future payments to General Fund and $59 million in proceeds of some disputed payments.

Priority given to tobacco-dependent, economically distressed, and/or rural communities to assist with economic growth, development and transition
