1. Find your way in the school building
In middle-school, the students walk by themselves from one
classroom to the other.
MOST of your classes take place on the ‘6th grade floor’ :
French, Maths, English, History and Geography…
BUT some classes take place in the school main building :
physics and life science, technology, music, arts, PE, swimming.
You will need only a few days to find your way easily in the building.
Meanwhile, don’t hesitate to ask for help !
On the opposite page, you can find a grid to help you find which floor you need to reach in
order to go wherever you need to go.
Which stairs shall you use?
To go to the 7th
and 8th floors :
Use the yellow stairs (opposite the administration office)
or the grey stairs.
For the other floors:
Use the blue stairs (the first stairs on your right when you
enter the building)

2. PRONOTE and my Timetable
PRONOTE is an online administrative management system used in French schools to
communicate and exchange information in real time : you can access your timetable, your
grades, your class diary and your given homework. I log in with my ID number and my
password (given to you on your first day back to school).
PRONOTE allows you to keep an eye on your schedules from one week to the other, to stay
updated on your homework and your grades and even to communicate with your teachers if
you need to.
PRONOTE has become essential but it doesn’t substitute for your diary notebook and
your « carnet de correspondance » (report book) that you must keep with you at all
times !
Your timetable shows your schedules so that you know what kind of class you have and where
you need to go.
You must keep your timetable with you until you know it by heart !
Your timetable varies according to weeks A or weeks B.
Your timetable can be modified (postponed lessons, school events…).
In that case, all the modifications appear on PRONOTE.
• For the AP hours (Accompagnement Personnalisé – School Support) : APA (support in
English), APF (support in French), APM (support in Maths), the teachers are asking a few
students to attend every week. If you are asked to attend it, the class will appear on
PRONOTE.
• One hour of « vie de classe » (class lifetime) is planned in your timetable. This schedule can
be used only from time to time by the headteacher, another teacher, the Chief Supervisor,
the matron, the educational psychologist or the career councelor. If you are asked to attend
this class, it will appear on PRONOTE and unless you’re asked to attend it, this class is not
part of your weekly timetable.
A piece of advice : Get used to looking at PRONOTE every evening to check you timetable
for the next day.
3. How to pack my bag?
PACK YOUR BAG THE PREVIOUS EVENING!
1) Look at your timetable and check the classes you have on the next day. Take all the school
things you need for those classes only. DON’T BRING YOUR TEXTBOOKS.
The textbooks are available in the classrooms. Don’t bring your own textbook at school in case
you forget it there and to prevent a heavy schoolbag.
2) Pack a special bag for Physical Education and Swimming class.
You will leave your sports bag into your locker before and after your
sports class.
3) In the evening, empty your schoolbag, tidy up your things.
Do your homework.
Pack your things again for the next day !
Some pieces of advice :
Always keep in your schoolbag a pack of tissues (there aren’t any in the classroom).
Always keep a few blank sheets in your folder but not too many to lighten your schoolbag.
How to use my locker?
- Your locker allows you to leave your sportsbag so that you don’t have to carry it around all
day long. Take your sportsbag from your locker only before your sports class and put it back in
your locker after the sports class. Keep in mind to bring your sports bag back home at the end
of the day !
- In the morning, you can leave your afternoon classes things into your locker. At noon, you
can put your morning classes school things back in your locker and take your things for the
afternoon classes.
- In you locker, you can also leave all the things you don’t need everyday such as your
coloured pencils, blank sheets, your white lab coat…
A Piece of Advice : Don’t forget to check before you leave school that you have all the things
you need at home to do your homework !
4. What do I have to wear at school ?
Appropriate clothing must be worn !
Shorts, short skirts, flip-flops, thin shoulder straps tops, tank tops, ripped or torn-up clothes
are forbidden.
Piercings and dyed hair are not allowed.
I must wear a wristwatch (connected watches are forbidden) There are no clocks in the
classrooms and you need to have a watch in order to organise your time during the tests for
instance.
A piece of advice : In September and in June, the weather can be very hot.
There is no air conditioning system in the school ! Avoid jeans, favor light fabrics. You can wear
skirts and bermuda shorts if they are long enough (at the knee). Strappy sandals are allowed
but they need to hold your feet tight.
5. Your teachers
You have several teachers in middle-school.
The Head Teacher makes a link between all your teachers. During the school year, they meet
together to talk about every student’s work and behaviour in class.
At the end of every trimester, there is a « conseil de classe » (teacher and staff meeting).
Mr. MORENO, the school Vice-Principal, Mrs. Solferino, the Chief Supervisor, all your teachers
and your class representatives attend this meeting.
If I have an important question to ask to one of my teachers, I can use PRONOTE to ask my
question through the « Discussion » tab.
Si j’ai une question importante à adresser à un de mes professeurs, je peux utiliser PRONOTE
pour la lui poser (dans « discussion »). Make sure you adress your teacher in polite words and
don’t forget to thank your teacher after he or she answered your question !
A Piece of Advice : If you have any problem, talk to your Head Teacher as he or she will
do everything to help you.

6. Your Chief Supervisor
Every grade has its own Chief Supervisor (C.P.E.).
The Chief Supervisor (C.P.E.) for the 6th Grade is
Mrs SOLFERINO.
She is in charge of the school life.
Her duty is to watch over all and each of the students of
The 6th grade.
Her office is on the 6th grade floor.
You will go to her office if you’re late at school, if you have been absent, if you want to change
your attendance to the canteen, if you want to register for study class…
She will also look after the formation of the class representatives.

7. The class representatives
At school, every class has 2 representatives. They are the spokespersons of all the students of
the class in front of the teachers and other adults of the school.
The representatives have several duties:
• They represent the students of their class. • They are mediators for their classmates and all the other members of the staff in the
school : the administration, the teachers and non-teachers staff.
For each class, the 2 representatives attend the « conseil de classe » (class meeting).
If one of the students in the class is brought to a « conseil de discipline » (disciplinary committee), the 2 representatives of the student’s class must attend the meeting.
All the representatives need to vote for a student representative among the representatives to attend the « conseil d’intérieur » (School Board), this student will be the « representative of the representatives ». At the conseil d'intérieur (School Board), the representatives of each grade will report issues and make suggestions on the running scheme of the school.

8. Your Homework
At school, every teacher give some homework. It can be an essay, some exercices or a worksheet
to complete, some lessons to learn, some reading, presentations, etc…
You must get yourself organised to avoid being overwhelmed !
• Write down all your homework in your diary.
You MUST write your homework even if you use
PRONOTE !
By writing it down, you will remember and get
organised according to the amount of work you have.
Keep in mind that it is possible to have an Internet
outage !
• Get ahead with your homework as soon as you have some time and plan your tests
revisions, do not wait until the last minute.
• If you need help for your homework, you can register to the « aide aux devoirs »
(Homework Help).
There are different schedules for this Homework Help : either from 1pm to 2 pm, from 4pm
to 5pm and from 5 pm to 6 pm. This study class is under the guidance of some French,
Maths, English, History & Geography or sciences teachers. Choose your schedule according
to your timetable and your needs. To register to one or more of these study classes, you will
have to see Mrs SOLFERINO. It will be a registration for at least 7 weeks, which can be
repeated if needed.
A Piece of Advice: If there is too much homework or too many tests on the same date, I can
politely ask my teachers if they can postpone some of them.
What if I was absent ?
If I was absent, my parents need to call the school (Mrs. SOLFERINO)
It doesn’t matter if you were absent for long or not but you MUST
be up to date with the work done in class and your homework
when you come back to school.
The best is to be up to date with everything when you come back
to school, so that you can resume work and you don’t fall behind.
If you couldn’t get updated, you MUST tell each of your teachers
at the beginning of each class.
PRONOTE allows you to know quickly what has been done in each class (in « contenu
des cours » / Course Content), you can find the titles of the lessons and the numbers of
the exercices that were done.
To get the lessons and the correction of the exercices, ask a classmate (a pair-work
partner is given to you by the Head Teacher at the beginning of the year)
Most of the times, the simplest solution is to take a picture of the lessons, exercices
and corrections in order to share them by mail or thanks to your smartphone.
You will have to write out again the lessons though, complete the exercises and check
the correction afterwards.
WATCH OUT !
You MUST make up every tests and evaluations that you have missed while you were absent, so
GET READY before you get back to school.
9. The School Library
The School Library is above all a place to read and
to conduct research.
You can find many books including novels, comics
and even magazines. It is possible to borrow them.
In the School Library, you can also prepare your essays
or presentations and even work on the computers
which are at your disposal.
Mrs GRENIER and Mrs CASTELLINI, the school librarians are in charge of the School Library.
They will be there to advise you if you’re looking for a particular book or to organise your
presentation.
Silence is the RULE in the School Library !
How do you go to the School Library ?
To go to the School Library during a study class, you need to be allowed by your Chief
Supervisor. If you want to go after your lunch, you have to wait in the playground until the
librarians come to pick the students up.
A Piece of Advice : From the 6th grade floor, there is a fast access to the School Library. You
need to go two floors douwnstairs.
10. The Community Home
The Community Home is a place to relax and rest.
Mrs GAGGINO is the person in charge of the Community Home. At the beginning of the year,
several activities are offered to you such as videos games, yoga or Journal club. You will be
given the list of those activities on PRONOTE.
To enjoy your time there, you need to join the Community Home !
