Godrej have MFG-PRO systems implemented at each location. Godrej had Oracle Express based

system for creating MIS reports using a data warehouse. The support for Oracle Express version

which was being used by Godrej was no longer available. Further, the maintenance cost of the

Oracle Express based system was very high. In addition, the earlier system required lot of

coding to clean up and accumulate data from various sources before it could be converted to a

    BI compliant data repository.

The system was available only to a selected few personnel in head office. It was technically

extremely difficult to expose the system to personnel outside the corporate head office. Due to

this the benefits accrued from the system were severely limited.

Due to these limitations, all aspects of business information was not a part of the Oracle

    Express based data warehouse.

For these reasons it was necessary to move to a more productive and convenient system for

managing the data warehouse and creating flexible BI reports.

So Godrej decided to migrate the data warehouse and the reports to the Microsoft platform

which uses MS SQL Server 2000 for the Data warehouse, MS SQL Server 2000 Analysis Service for

creating OLAP Cubes. IIS 6 as the web server and Internet explorer 5.5 or later as the client

    browser.

SolutionGodrej CIO Mr. Mani Mulki entrusted the work of creating a SQL Server based BI solution to

Maestros Mediline Systems Ltd. Maestros has now developed an Extranet BI application for

keeping track of their Sales, Finance and Performance of several SBUs. The application

developed for the companies of Godrej and the respective modules are as follows.1) Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL).

    a) GCPL-Sales.

    i) Primary Sales

    ii) Secondary Sales

    iii) ERIS

    b) GCPL-Finance.

    2) Godrej Industries Limited (GIL).a) GIL Sales and costing.

    b) Performance Report.

The application is developed using MS SQL Server 2000 for the Data warehouse, MS SQL Server

2000 Analysis Service for creating OLAP Cubes. IIS 6 as the web server and Internet explorer 5.5

or later as the client browser. Some of the reports made using Office Web Components to allow

flexible pivot-table functionality on the browser and some reports are made in Excel.

The data is extracted from different locations MFG-Pro systems in the form of text files. These

text files are collected at their head office in Mumbai and are used as source of the Data

    Warehouse.

The system uses MS SQL Data Transformation Service (DTS) to extract the data from text file

collected from several locations and load into the Data Warehouse. The cubes are created

using MS SQL Server 2000 Analysis Service. The website is developed using FrontPage 2003 and

reports uses Office Web Components (OWC). The whole migration of 2 yrs.historical data is

done in to the new system developed by Maestros mediline.

There are 3 different sites developed by Maestros Mediline, one for GCPL, one for GIL Sales and

Costing and one for Performance Report for all SBUs.

applications will be available on Internet using a secure link All reports are automatically
