They must make peace, doing everything in their power to bring this blessing that God holds out to people. Life Focus 1. Which of the Beatitudes had the most impact on you as they were read? Why? 2. Who or what experience has helped you to value what money can’t buy? 3. What does society say makes people happy? What really makes people happy? What makes you happy? 4. In Matthew, Jesus’ recipe for happiness differs from the worlds. Share a time when you tried to live according to one of the Beatitudes. How did it affect you? Scripture Focus

The Beatitudes, which we hear in this Gospel passage, are the heart of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus says that the ones who will be “ happy” are those whom society has judged unhappy, even wretched. “The poor in spirit” see through the illusion of wealth and, with nothing else to rely on, come to depend on God. The sorrowing bemoan the sad state of a world that neglects God’s wishes. The meek and lowly do not presume to act independently of God. Christians seek happiness by striving to imitate God’s readiness to forgive. They are called to be single-hearted in doing God’s will rather then making self-interest their primary motivation. They must make peace, doing everything in their power to bring this blessing that God holds out to people.

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Thirteen parishioners participate on this team and respond in prayer to any request in confidence. Please see the front

of the bulletin for contact information to place a request or to become part of this worthwhile ministry.

WORLD DAY OF THE SICK Feb 11-12 The Sacrament of Anointing the Sick will be celebrated at Sunday Masses

A FOND FAREWELL For Anne Germond, Newly elected 11th Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Algoma. She has been Rector of Church of the Ascension for 16 years. She will be moving to their headquarters in Sault Ste. Marie. An OPEN HOUSE to say farewell is planned for SUNDAY JAN. 29th, at 1:30pm at the Church of the Ascension, Sparks Street in New Sudbury.

ANOTHER GREAT SUCCESS was had at our monthly widow/widower/loss of child support group which was held Wednesday, January 25th. We had 50 people show up for a delicious homemade meal and the room was ablaze with positive energy as they all form wonderful friendships and camaraderie. This ministry was formed in 2012 from our Bereavement Ministry and began with only 4 widows. It was our parish nurse Zenaida Odense who suggested that we need to reach out to our widows and widowers. Though different trials, we found that they enjoyed a nice home-cooked meal and just socialize with each other. Of course we still offer a one on one meeting with Celia Wiley for anyone wishing to talk about their grief in losing their spouse or child. This ministry would not be possible without the hard work of Loretta DiGioseffo, Madonna Gareau, Christine Garrioch, Rita Izumu, Ghislaine Regaudie, Taylor Sullivan, Vilija Tassone and Celia Wiley as well as a team of widows, led under the direction of Eilish Todd who make the monthly phone calls and our custodian Dennis Ongarao who sets up all the tables, and our secretary Cynthia Mack who takes the phone calls from new participants. Thank you to all and God Bless!!

Musician Needed at Holy Redeemer Church at 1887 Bancroft Dr. in Sudbury Keyboard Player or Guitarist - for Sunday Morning 9 AM Mass. If you play an instrument that could assist in our Sunday Morning Liturgy, please contact Fr. Peter Moher at 705-566-8330 or Email to [email protected]

LOST & FOUND: The Lost and found box is starting to over flow! If you would be so kind to take a minute to see if there is anything that belongs to you, I will have it moved to the entrance of the Church for the next two weekends to make it more accessible before and after Sunday Mass. Thank you! Cynthia – Church Secretary/Office Manager
