Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

July 28, 2019 9:00am

Song “Let It Rise” (see video screens)

Invocation P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

Exhortation P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in prayer

and praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition.

Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.

P Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God,

our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

Confession of Sins

C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.

Absolution

P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of

Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C Amen.

Introit P Call upon me in the day of trouble; C I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me. P With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord! C I will keep your statutes. P I call to you; save me, C that I may observe your testimonies. P I rise before dawn and cry for help; C I hope in your words. P My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, C that I may meditate on your promise. P Hear my voice according to your steadfast love; C O Lord, according to your justice give me life.

ALL: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

P Call upon me in the day of trouble; C I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.

Salutation and Collect of the Day P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Let us pray. O Lord, let Your merciful ears be attentive to the prayers

of Your servants, and by Your Word and Spirit teach us how to pray that our petitions may be pleasing before You; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

Old Testament Judges 10:1-5 page 210 P This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Epistle Reading Galatians 6:1-5 page 975 L This is the Word of the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Holy Gospel Mark 5:2-8, 18-20 L The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the fifth chapter. C Glory to You, O Lord.

2 And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. 3 He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, 4 for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. 6 And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him.7 And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” 8 For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. 19 And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.

L This is the Gospel of the Lord. C Praise to You, O Christ.

JULY MEMORY VERSE:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

Sermon

Prayer of the Church

Offering “God of All My Days” (sung by worship team)

Service of the Sacrament

Preface P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Lift up your hearts. C We lift them to the Lord. P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C It is right to give Him thanks and praise. P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in

all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Song “Holy, Holy, Holy” vs. 1

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessèd Trinity!

Prayer of Thanksgiving P Blessed are You, O Lord our God, king of all creation, for You have had mercy on us and given Your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. In Your righteous judgment You

condemned the sin of Adam and Eve, who ate the forbidden fruit, and You justly barred them and all their children from the tree of life. Yet, in Your great mercy, You promised salvation by a second Adam, Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, and made His cross a life-giving tree for all who trust in Him.

We give You thanks for the redemption You have prepared for us through Jesus Christ. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may faithfully eat and drink of the fruits of His cross and receive the blessings of forgiveness, life, and salvation that come to us in His body and blood. Hear us as we pray in His name and as He has taught us:

Lord’s Prayer ALL: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Words of Our Lord

Pax Domini

P The peace of the Lord be with you always. C Amen.

About Holy Communion—The Lord’s Supper is celebrated here in the belief and glad confidence

that our Lord gives us as He says, not only bread and wine, but His very body and blood to eat and to

drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord

invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin, and forgive and love as He forgives

and loves us. If this is your belief, we welcome you to join us at the Lord’s table. Because we are

called to examine ourselves before receiving the Lord’s Supper (I Corinthians 11:28-29), we encourage

you to consider the questions on p. 329-330 in the front of the hymnal. If you are communing with us

for the first time, or if you would like a fuller understanding of what we as Lutherans believe about the

Lord’s Supper, please pick up a copy of “What is the Lord’s Supper?” at the Information table in the

entryway. Please reserve the white grape juice cups in the center of the communion trays for those who

for health reasons are unable to drink wine. If your health requires gluten-free wafers, they are

available upon request. Speak to the pastor prior to the service. Our pastor is happy to speak to you

further if you have any questions.

“Who You Say I Am” & “Healing Rain” (see video screens) Post-Communion Collect

P Let us pray. Gracious God, our heavenly Father, You have given us a foretaste of the feast to come in the Holy Supper of Your Son’s body and blood. Keep us firm in the true faith throughout our days of pilgrimage that, on the day of His coming, we may, together with all Your saints, celebrate the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom which has no end; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

Benedicamus P Let us bless the Lord. C Thanks be to God.

Benediction P The Lord bless you and keep you.
