God is Calling You

I am holding an intention to listen for that which is calling me, and as the year unfolds to make it a practice

to surrender to that call. I invite you to join me in this intention. I have found that when I say “yes” to that

which is calling me I am truly led to reach higher, to shine brighter, and to live more joyously.

The practice is to listen and to recognize the call when it comes. In the past, I have been called to be my

highest self in many different ways. Coincidences and synchronicity have called me to take a new direction

in my life. I remember a time when I was young and searching for a new direction after I discovered that a

career in research biology was probably not a good fit for me. During that time, in the middle of a

conversation I blurted “I am moving to the Virgin Islands.” I surprised myself with those words because I

had no idea where those islands were. That same week, I received a job offer to teach in the Virgin Islands.

I said “yes” and I am so grateful that I did.

Sometimes the call to be my highest self has come as a gentle curiosity that grew into a passion to

understand. When I was a child, my father, who was a doctor, would tell me how important it was for a

doctor to listen to people and to have compassion for people. He explained that this type of caring

relationship would help people heal as much as the medicine that doctors gave. I remember noticing what

he said and wondering what would make that work. Many years later that curiosity grew into a passion to

know and to understand how people healed. This passion became a powerful calling and it led to seven

years of graduate training in clinical psychology.

There are times when the call to be a brighter light in this world has come in the form of a voice that speaks

to me – and I have experienced this voice as the voice of God. This voice has led me out of dangerous

situations and into safety. This voice led me into ministry and ultimately to California and to Unity of the

Valley Spiritual Center.

Today, I know that when I am guided in these ways, it is always God (or the Universe or my Highest Self)

calling me to my greatest good. It is for this reason that I am holding the intention to listen for the many

ways that God is calling me, to recognize the call, and to surrender to it. Hopefully, you will join me.

Reiki Practitioners are invited to attend this gathering

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that

also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is

based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us

and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low,

then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we

are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Pranic Healing® is a simple yet powerful and effective system of no-

touch energy healing. It is based on the fundamental principles that

the body is a self-repairing living entity that possesses the ability to

heal itself and that the healing process is accelerated by increasing

this life force that is readily available from the sun, air and ground

to address physical and emotional imbalances.

Drumming has been used for healing, ceremony/

prayer and communion with the Divine Creator

and each other for centuries. Join us in celebra-

tion, prayer and healing using sound and the beat of the mother drum

which is the beating of our hearts.

Bring your own rattles and drums or use the many we have to share.

Dance, sing, rattle, drum or just listen to the healing beats.

No experience is necessary - All are invited to attend

Church Directory . . .

Prayer Chaplains are available for prayer support, home or

hospital visits, and listening when you need someone. Prayer

Chaplains are available after church on Sunday or may be

reached by calling the church office (Mailbox #6).

Prayer requests are read in strictest confidentiality, placed in

our prayer chest, then sent to Silent Unity where they are held

in prayer for 30 days.

CDs of the 10 a.m. Sunday worship celebration are available

for $5.00 in the Bookstore following the service. CDs of past

Sunday service messages are also available.

Lending Library: If you need a book for a class or for your

personal spiritual enrichment they can be checked out from our

lending library. The library is available on Sundays before and

after the service and during normal business hours Monday-

Thursday.
