|WELCOME TO MA RY QUEEN OF HEA VEN IN ELM HU RST, IL 2
Congratulations to all of our first communicants! This weekend 40 of our children will receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time.
It is always special to see the children approach the sacrament with a hope and expectation, that most of us, after hundreds of Eucharists may have lost. And yet, we come back to Jesus over and over as do the crowds in John 6:33, who say to Jesus, “Sir, give us this bread always.” And
blessed are we to have the bread of life, Jesus, always available to us. In the suburbs, one does not have to travel far to find Mass or a chapel for Eucharistic devotion at any time on any day. We need not hunger or thirst spiritually, for the bread of life is always available to nourish our souls.
If you are not familiar with Eucharistic Adoration, I encourage you to look for opportunities to make it an important part of your spiritual life. I find Adoration time to be important in keeping me focused on the Lord and it has often helped me to find grace to handle difficult situations.
Our lives are so filled with noise, that just the opportunity to spend a few minutes in quiet prayer is something for which we all are hungering. The beauty of Adoration is that one does not have to commit to a time, nor must one try to learn a certain type of prayer. One only stops in for a few minutes to be with Jesus. Prayers may be recited, or you can just ask Jesus to help you with your needs, giving your worries and anxieties to Him so that you can courageously face the noise and business of the day. Eucharistic Adoration is available at Mary Queen of Heaven on the first Monday of the month. Stop in any time during the day. Visitation Parish has a perpetual adoration chapel where adoration is available every day. Many other local parishes offer times of adoration as well.
Please join me in praying for our first communicants, that their first participation would be the first of many. May they know Jesus’ promise that they will never hunger or thirst if they are close to Him, the true bread of life.
Fr. Jason
This Thursday, May 4th is the National Day of Prayer for our Nation. Please join me in praying for our country:
God of freedom and liberty,
Bless our country. Grant wisdom to our leaders.
Enlighten our minds to choose what is right in your eyes.
Enlighten our lives with the fire of your love
and strengthen us to work for the common good.
For it is through your goodness that we have what we
need to do your will in our nation.
Through Christ, our Lord. Amen
