Reflection

Baptism Prayer

Loving Father, thank you for the gift of Baptism! I rejoice in being your daughter/son, the identity I Received on the day I was baptized and that I will Carry with me into eternity. Help me to live as your Beloved child, and forgive me the ways I fail to live it fully. I prayer today in a special way for those who brought me to the baptismal font, especially my parents my godparents, and the priest who administered this great sacrament. Lord Jesus Christ, I was buries with you in my baptism, united with you in your death, that I might rise to the newness of life you won for me in your glorious resurrection. Thank you, Jesus, for the eternal life you share with me even now. Help me to live as a faithful member of your body the Church, into which the sacrament has incorporated me. Make me a witness of love to all my brothers and sisters to whom I was joined in that sacrament. Make me an instrument of the Church’s growth in holiness and unity in the world. Holy Spirit of God, source of that bath which has purifies, justifies, and sanctified me, you have made me a temple, a dwelling place for you. I renew today the welcome I gave you that day. Renew in me all the gifts of my baptism. Stir up the graces of that sacrament. Nourish the virtues that came into my soul, especially faith, hope, and love, and help me to grow in goodness every day. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen

St. Charles Borromeo

Saint Charles Borromeo was born on October 2, 1538 at the castle of Arona on Lake Maggiore near Milan. His father was the Count of Arona and his mother a member of the House of Medici. He was the third of six children born to the couple. At the age of 12, the young Count Charles Borromeo dedicated himself to a life of service to the Church. His uncle gave to him the family income from the Benedictine abbey of Saints Gratinian and Felinus. Even as a youth, his integrity was obvious. He was explicit in telling his father that he could only keep the money required for his education and to prepare him for service to the Church. All other funds belonged to the poor of the Church and were to be passed along to them. The young count suffered from a speech impediment that made him appear slow to those who did not know him. Despite this challenge, he performed well and impressed his teachers. He attended the University of Pavia and learned Latin. He was praised because he was hardworking and thorough. In 1554 his father passed away and although Charles was a teenager, responsibility for his household fell to him. Charles continued in his studies and earned a doctorate in canon and civil law. He was beatified on May 12, 1602 by Pope Paul V. He was subsequently canonized by Pope Paul V on November 1, 1610.

St. Charles Borromeo's feast day is celebrated on November 4th. He is the patron of bishops, catechists, Lombardy, Italy, Monterey, California, cardinals, seminarians, spiritual leaders, and Sao Carlos in Brazil. St. Charles Borromeo has a beautiful shrine in the Milan Cathedral and is often depicted in art wearing his robes, barefoot, carrying the cross with a rope around his neck and his arm raised in blessing.

What are the Four Marks of the Church? Continued from last week

III. The Church is Catholic or Universal because Christ has given the Church the fullness of the means of salvation – connect and complete confession of faith, full sacramental life, and ordained ministry in apostolic succession. The Church is also Catholic or Universal because her mission is to preach the Gospel to the entire world. IV. The Church is Apostolic because the Church continues the mission of the Apostles, because the Church continues to teach what the Apostles taught, and because the Church continues to be guided by the apostles from heaven.

The academic year is in full swing at our Catholic schools, with our first semester drawing to a close! The value for the month of November is FRIENDSHIP. What better way to express your friendship than to share the beauty and success of your children's Catholic education with your friends! Let them know how your children are thriving in our Christ-centered, academically-focused schools and encourage them to schedule a visit. Touring Tuesdays will begin again this year on November 14th, from 9-11am or by appointment. Touring Tuesdays are Open House events, designed to introduce prospective families to the life-long benefits and value of a Catholic education. Reservations are required and can be made online at CatholicSchoolsNY.org or by calling our bilingual phoneline 646-794-2885. We invite you to see our schools in action!

el año, principalmente los sábados. El Día de las almas no es sagrado día de obligación. No debe confundirse con el día los Santos;

SYNOPSIS IN ENGLISH

First: The Prayer Group invites our entire community to its praise and thanksgiving meetings every Friday at 7:30pm in the Monsignor Powers Room (below the chapel). Second: ¡We extend a warm welcome to families and individuals new to our Parish! Please register at the Parish House so that we may be of service to you. We encourage all to fully particpate in our parish life.
