Purpose

To engage students/parents/teachers in conversation about the future progress of the student.

To improve the students’ academic goals

To set at least two S.M.A.R.T. goals Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely

To encourage targeted contact between home and school.

Academic and Service Goals

By the end of this session you will:

Have set one academic and one service goal for 2012

Have identified how you will be able to measure your progress towards these goals.

Have identified the steps that you will need to take in order to achieve these goals.

Background

Your son has spent time in class considering what a SMART goal is and how

to set one.

IT NEEDS TO BE

SPECIFIC (State exactly what you want to accomplish)

MEASURABLE (Must track progress and establish concrete criteria)

ATTAINABLE (Is the goal achievable?)

REALISTIC ( Do not bite off more than you can chew!)

TIME (Goals should include a time limit)

1. What are your academic strengths ?

2. What academic areas do you find challenging?

3. What obstacles could prevent you from achieving to your full potential?

4. What could be done by parents/school to help you achieve/ how can you help yourself?

5. What is your academic goal this year at College?

6. How will you know when you have done well?

Service Goal

1. What do you think we mean when we use the word “service” ?

2. Who is somebody that you admire that serves the community (inside or outside of school)?

3. What issues in the wider community concern you?

4. What skills do you have that you can use to contribute to the community?

5. What is your service goal this year at College?

6. How will you know when you have achieved this goal?
