THREE OUT OF THREE FOR GBThere is no better place to start thanwith Monday’s action at ChaddesleyCorbett where the Anglo-IrishChallenge came to the UK for the firsttime; there was also the conclusion ofAGA’s All Comers Championship. The soon-to-be-crowned champion ladyrider Gina Andrews stole the show witha superb treble. Andrews’ first win wasthe cause for a double celebration as shepartnered Tom Weston’s Thoonavolla tosuccess in the first leg of the Anglo-Irish Challenge, leading a home a 1-2for GB as Catherine Walton was justbehind on Skating Home. It also saw thehorse’s owners, The TroubledPartnership, win the inaugural AGA AllComers Championship. It was a pleasure to watch the starnames from the Irish Pointing scene dobattle on a UK Point-to-Point course, and it was their star man DerekO’Connor who came out on top in legtwo, guiding Tommy Morgan’s Part AndParcel to victory. Robbie Henderson’snever-say-die attitude ensured thefavourite, A Touch Of Sass, just got thebetter of Jamie Codd on Fiddleesticks, guiding Team GB to a third success inthe event.Back to the Andrews treble; thehighlight came in the Ladies Openaboard Gary Hanmer’s High Counsel. The pair was well-fancied to win atDingley the previous weekend but thesix-year-old refused to race. They made

up for that here with an electric jumpingperformance to get the better of LaraMahon and Awesome George, whowere probably flattered to get as close tothe winner, who looked to be idling inthe closing stages. The treble was completed in the finalrace when Andrews guided the well-backed Craig Beinn to land the OpenMaiden for her father Simon. They werethe only finishers, but looked to be goingbest when the favourite Sweet Belle fellat the third from home, and werecertainly on top when the weakeningPackermac Jak came to grief at thepenultimate obstacle. There was also a double on the card forjockey Jane Williams and trainer PhilipRowley. Now Ben walked over in thefirst before Leighton Lass showed plentyof battling qualities on just her secondstart to repel Shantara, who ran a crackeron her return from a lengthy absence.Rewinding a couple of days and theweekend’s action began with therearranged Cumberland fixture atAspatria. There weren’t a huge numberof runners but there were still some starnames on show in the Open races -Whiteabbey and Amie Waugh took theLadies feature race, while Splendid Blueand Nick Orpwood landed the Mens.On Sunday the South Midlands seasoncame to an end at Kingston Blount andAlan Hill saddled a double in the twoOpen races; stable stars Harbour Courtand Start Royal landed the Mens and

Ladies features respectively, with regularpartners James Tudor and GinaAndrews doing the steering. At Cothelstone, Will Biddick continuedto re-write the record books with yetanother treble - that’s now 64 winnersfor the season. Bathwick Scanno(Members), A Real Cliche (OpenMaiden) and Kostaquarta (Mixed Open)were his mounts.Nick Williams and Team GB captainJohn Mathias were among the winner atLydstep, both recording doubles. Thehighlight came in the Mens Open, inwhich Mathias was on Rosies Peacockfor his sixth win of the season.Sticking with Leading Horses of2014/15, Cock Of The Rock went onebetter by racking up a seventh successthis season in the hands of HarryCobden.Looking ahead, there are four fixtures atthe weekend, but it all starts on Fridaywhen the highly-anticipated StratfordHunter Chase evening takes centre stage. As ever, the meeting has attracted anabundance of starnames for whatpromises tobe a greatadvert forour sport.

The adrenaline was flowing and thenerves were jangling but after 18months of planning and hard workthe Anglo-Irish Challenge was finallyhere, and Chaddesley Corbett wereon the brink of pulling offsomething rather special. BritishPoint-to-Point racing was going tobe firmly in the spotlight and therewas also a golden opportunity todemonstrate to a wider audience,

everything that is great about this uniquesport.

Did it work? Yes, and that is veryheartening for all of us who have beeninvolved, particularly the fourmusketeers whose 18 months of hardwork, drive and determination made ithappen - Judith Healey, Jim Squires, JenHancox and Diana Williams. All willacknowledge that there is most definitelyroom for improvement, and that is

already being addressed. However, rightnow the positive coverage is beingenjoyed and shared, and the organisingcommittee would like to thank everyonewho contributed to a memorable day;the many helpers and volunteers, thepaying public and our friends from overthe water. But a special mention must goto the owners, trainers and riders, aswithout their support this simply wouldnot have happened.

The outsider of three runners provedtoo strong for a pair of smart rivalswhen winning the latestThoroughbred Breeders’Association’s Point-to-Point formares and fillies.

Renta Gallery (Portrait Gallery) wassent off a 10/1 shot for the race, which was held at Lydstep inPembrokeshire, but she held offKimora (Bach), who had recentlywon a mares’ hunters’ chase atFontwell, and third-placed Gale ForceLucey (Oscar). This was nine-year-oldRenta Gallery’s fourth win in sevenBritish point-to-points, and trainerRichard Thomas said: “I was a bitsurprised to see her at that price, so Ihad a small bet.”

Thomas, who trains half a dozenpointers at Treorchy in RhonddaCynon Taf, combines that role withone of property renovator. Hebought Renta Gallery in Ireland as asix-year-old after she had run in threeIrish point-to-points (second once)and took her back to Wales to run inthe colours of his father Adrian, aretired doctor of science.

Richard says: “My father introducedme to pointing when I was about 12.The first horse he purchased, Pajanjo, became South & West Wales areachampion and I was hooked.

“Renta Gallery won her first tworaces for us, but she’s accident prone, and cut her leg while out in a field, sohad a year off, and then cut it againand had to miss the first half of thisseason. After a satisfactory comebackrun we looked for a mares’ race andsince she has won at Lydstep in thepast the TBA race was the obvioustarget.

“She might run under Rules fromRobert Stephens’s yard this summer, but she will be pointing next season. We have bred a few foals and willcover her in the future.”

The Thoroughbred Breeders’Association’s backing of ten Point-to-Points during the current season willbe completed at Hexham inNorthumberland on Sunday (5pm),when a cracking race between twovery good mares is in prospect.Executive Benefit (Beneficial) haswon four of her five Point-to-Pointsthis season, while Splendid Blue

(Blueprint) is three from four, including landing a win at Aspatria inCumbria on Sunday. They are amongnine entries for the three-mile test.

Cheshire trainer Joe O’Shea reckonsExecutive Benefit is the best huntermare in the country, and saysSunday’s race gives her a chance toprove it, despite two recent hunters’chase defeats. O’Shea says: “Shewasn’t 100 per cent right atCheltenham [third in TBA Hunters’Chase], and Gillon [Crow] lookedafter her, then she met all sorts oftrouble in running at Uttoxeter. She’sa proper athlete and takes a bit ofgetting to know, and she’s a man’sride. With Gillon injured I’ve bookedTom Hamilton – he was reallypleased when I rang him, and said‘I’ve seen enough of her backsidewhen she’s come up north’.”

Splendid Blue’s owner/trainer,Northumberland-based Jo Boswell, reports her mare is “pinging after herwin,” adding “so I’m hoping for thebest”, although she does have theoption of running her in the Mensopen race (3.30pm).

CUMBERLANDat ASPATRIASaturday, 23 Mayby Peter BurgonAmie Waugh celebrated her 25thbirthday by steering Whiteabbey tovictory in the D.A.Harrison LadiesOpen Race at Saturday's rearrangedCumberland fixture at Aspatria.

However, her mount wasn't able todictate matters up front as usual andonly gained the upper hand over FozyMoss from two out, eventuallydrawing clear to score by four lengths.

The 10-year-old's career has beentransformed since joining RebeccaHewit, who said: ''He's had a fourweek break since winning at Balcormoand that's too long for him. He will gofor a four-timer in the Border LadiesOpen at Hexham next Sunday.'' Thiswas a fifth winner in the last six weeksfor Waugh, who added: ''He didn'tjump as well as usual in the earlystages but got into a good rhythm onthe final circuit and won nicely in theend.''

The veteran Gunner Jack made avaliant bid for glory on his retirementrun in the William Hare Ltd Mens

Open Race, setting a strong pace fromthe outset and jumping superbly buthad nothing more to give whenheaded two out by Splendid Blue. Thelatter quickly settled the issue and hadten lengths in hand at the line. The 9-year-old is a credit to her owner/trainer, Joanna Boswell, winning sevenof her 11 starts between the flags inthe last sixteen months. Boswell said:''She is much happier on a left-handedtrack and is likely to run again atHexham.''

Regular pilot, Nick Orpwood hasenjoyed a great season with 22winners, including three under Rules, and said of the mare: ''You just haveto sit quiet and let her do her ownthing. She always hits one or twofences which she wouldn't get awaywith in a Hunters' Chase but has bagsof stamina.''

Ross Chapman had Kinder Scoutbowling along at the head of affairsfrom the off in the Jockey Club OpenMares Maiden Race and the 8-year-oldwas still in pole position rounding thehome turn with three to jump, stayingon well all the way to the line. Herwinning margin over Don't Point wasa comfortable eight lengths.

The home-bred winner carried thecolours of retired GP, Robert Fairsfrom East Kyo near Stanley andprovided Iveston trainer, Russell Rosswith his fifth success of the campaign.Fairs said: ''I've been breeding horsesfor more than 40 years and only everbought one but this is my first Point-to-Point winner. Most of them havebeen hurdlers with the best one beingthe George Reed-trained Palanquin, who won five times.''

Joanna Walton has enjoyed her bestseason to date and lifted her tally to sixon Fight Away Boys in the SubaruRestricted Race. However, it was notall plain sailing for the partnershipwho were last of the three runners formuch of the contest. Walton's mounteventually reeled in Pharawaydanteapproaching two out before outstayinghis rival to score by three and a halflengths.

After being beaten a minimum oftwenty lengths on his last four startsover hurdles in 2014 from LucindaRussell's yard, Ronald Barber's chargehas benefited from a change ofscenery and drop in grade since beingswitched to Bonjedward handler,Caroline Crow. ''He was carrying a bug

''Hedoesn't do a lot in front and needs tobe kept up to his work but has done usproud this season, winning his last twoPoints and earned his summer break,''she said.

Lowanbehold was sent straight intothe lead and jumped more fluentlythan his solitary rival, Border Flora inthe Milburns Solicitors NPPA ClubMembers Race, but after drawing tenlengths clear four out, almost threwvictory away by ploughing through thenext causing Ed Wrigley to lose hisirons. Riding rodeo style down thehome straight, his mount was headedtwo out before rallying to regain theinitiative at the last, where a greatjump sealed a two and a half lengthswin. Wrigley, a London-basedstockbroker, had cancelled a weekendbreak to Berlin to be at Aspatria.

It's always good to see a small scalefamily operation get some reward fortheir efforts and that was the case asLittle But Nice finally opened heraccount at the 20th time of asking inthe Richard Harrison & Sons OpenMaiden Race. Given a positive ride byRoss Wilson, the 10-year-oldprevented the favourite, Bollin Busterfrom getting on terms on the finalcircuit and gradually drew well clearfrom two out to score by twentylengths. The diminutive home-bredwinner, jointly owned byNorthallerton arable farmer, MalcolmClark and son, Stuart, and trained bythe latter, has had a busy season andthis was her eighth start since the endof February. Wilson, 22 onWednesday, said: '' She's a little tigerand tries her heart out every time.''

BERKS & BUCKS AND STAFFCOLLEGE & RMAS DRAGHOUNDSat KINGSTON BLOUNTSunday, 24 Mayby Jake ExelbyKingston Blount staged its fourth andfinal meeting of the year as the SouthMidlands Area season drew to a close. The weather was warm but overcast, although the threatened rain did notmaterialise and the sun broke throughthe clouds for the concluding race.

It was business as usual for AstonRowant trainer Alan Hill, with adouble in the Open races taking hisseasonal total to 29. “That’s my bestever season,” exclaimed the delighted

trainer after his first winner. “I’ve gota good stable of horses and I’mspoilt,” he continued, reeling off thenames of top horses such as Quinz,Consigliere and Sharp Suit. “I’m alsopleased with my strike rate, which isover one in three.

Alan’s double was initiated in the MensOpen – sponsored in memory ofDickie Lim by his friends and family –by another stable star, Harbour Court, who was dropping back to Points afterhis Cheltenham Hunter Chase victorylast time. Although he woncomfortably in the end, he was madeto work hard for his victory, with PhilYork on Master Workman setting afierce pace alongside winning riderJames Tudor. The two were alwayswell clear of the field and, despitetiring after three out, Master Workmanheld on for second from Otto TheGreat.

“We came here for an easier race afterCheltenham, but it didn’t work outthat way!” laughed Alan. “James had toreally squeeze him coming down thehill for the second time.” HarbourCourt has bounced back to form witha vengeance recently, having beenbelow his best. “I told James thatwe’ve got the horse back,” confirmedthe trainer. “But it’s taken me allseason. Next year, we want to be backon the big stage and Cheltenham is onthe agenda with the right ground.”

Asked about what the horse is like athome, trainer’s daughter Gaby pulledno punches. “He’s an absolute legendbut he’s horrible. He runs with hishead in the air and bolts. The otherday, he was supposed to do a canter, but he went flat out as if it was a ponyrace!” Gaby made sure to pay credit towork rider Sian Hawkes – “she letshim get his own way”. Alan Hillexplained his disappointing run atFontwell recently as being down to thesoft ground and confirmed “Not onlyis he unbeaten in five here, he’s neverbeen beaten in the South MidlandsArea. I don’t think he’s deteriorated atall.” And he may not be finished forthe season yet, with a possible trip toBratton Down in Devon on theagenda.

Both Harbour Court and Start Royalwere long odds-on, but a third Hillhotpot – my own Broken Eagle – wasturned over in the Bilton & JohnsonIntermediate. He made most of therunning and jumped well but was notallowed to dominate in his usual

manner. Tom David keptBanksandditches in close attendancethroughout and, when he jumped intothe lead five out, the favourite hadnothing left. Banksandditches went onto win comfortably from BrokenEagle and We Never Give Up, on hisfirst run for new trainer Clare Hobson.

“We bought him five weeks ago,” theRoyston-based trainer explained, “Andwe hoped he might improve for thechange of yard. This race was theplan!” Clare is a regular visitor toKingston Blount, winning here lastyear with Lotta Scares, who she rodeherself. “But I haven’t ridden thisseason,” she said. “I’ve now got apermit to train under National HuntRules and I’ve been busy with that.”Banksandditches was her first winnerof the season – her only other Pointer,Irish Rebel, has been placed twice –and proved timely, with father andowner Harry celebrating his 63rdbirthday!

The opening Members Race, sponsored by Carcomm Coachwork, attracted six entries. They were alltrained by Phil York, they all ran, andthey all finished. The spoils went toGamato, who led for most of the wayand, despite a mistake at the secondlast, stayed on to win from the fast-finishing Do You Follow Me with

Cork Twenty Ten, who was alsoprominent early, in third. The race wasa fourth success for Gamato under hisveteran owner-rider, former racingdriver Richard Defago. “That wasfun,” was the reaction of the winningtrainer, despite finishing last on hisown ride Bachman. “We hunt them allthe time and it’s great that they all gotround.” Phil was especially pleased forIzzy Mills and Louise Ellis, achievingtheir first and second completionsrespectively on Do You Follow Meand Leafy Arbour.

Phil followed up his training successwith a winning ride in the RestrictedRace, sponsored by Scott Dunn’sEquine Clinic on Blue Benny, a twelfthwinner of the season for theincapacitated David Kemp, anotherfrequent visitor to Kingston Blountfrom outside the area. “I had my ankletrodden on when Master Workman fellat Fakenham – that’s it for the seasonfor me” was the reason the Thetfordtrainer didn’t ride the horse himself. And he paid compliment to the track.“I like coming here because theyalways produce such fantastic ground, with a good, level grass cover! And it’sdual carriageway nearly all the way.”

The race itself was a competitiveaffair, with the lead changing handsseveral times. Baroque Style looked the

likely winner when he hit the frontfour out but Phil York on the favouritewore him down to win cosily, withDream Mistress making a late run intothird. Blue Benny has a reputation forquirkiness but his trainer feels it’sundeserved. “He’s not un-genuine, hejust likes to have company. He wasgreen last season and he threw a raceaway at Horseheath earlier this yearbut he wasn’t right in the middle ofthe season and we’ve had to work hardto get him back.” Blue Benny is one offour horses owner Barry Belchem haswith David Kemp, including stable starMoroman, who Gina Andrews rides ina Hunter Chase at Stratford on Friday.

The day, and the season, ended with awin for My Brother Pat in the EurosaltMaiden Race. The winner had finisheda good fifth in the Restricted at thelast meeting here, where Blue Bennywas second, and looked a “gimme” onthat form. Second early on, he ledafter the first open ditch andquickened clear five out. Despitetiring, he was helped by the last fencebeing bypassed and won easily fromDarsi’s Pass, who made late progressand Lucky To Be Alive.

My Brother Pat was the fourth winnerof the year for former Financial Timesjournalist Chris Lawson, who trains atBilsington, near Ashford in Kent. “It’sour first full season training him,”confirmed Chris. “He’s beenconsistent this year and he loves histrack. Chris Dennington always rideshim and he deserved this win – he’sbeen narrowly beaten on him twice by

Bridget and Gina Andrews.” Christrains the horse for the Crown ViewRacing Club, who bought him inNovember and include his formercolleague at the FT Annie Counsel andMike Green.

WEST SOMERSET VALEat COTHELSTONESunday, 24 Mayby Brian & Gill ArmstrongWill Biddick extended his recordseasonal tally to 64 with aCothelstone treble on Sunday.Bathwick Scanno (Hunt race), A RealCliché (3m Open Maiden) andKostaquarta (Mixed Open) providedthe champion-elect’s three successes.

The former made-all in his nowcustomary style for a seven lengthwin. “He’s my hunting pet and I’m sopleased to have won the race,”beamed delighted local trainer, TeresaClark.

The well-hunted A Real Cliche – theeight-year-old was out for 40 days lastseason – cruised home by a distanceto provide a popular success for hisowner-trainer, West Somerset Valemaster, Mike Weir. The eight-year-old, who had returned from a threeyear absence to finish third at FletePark, led at the third last frompacesetter Kilcolman Wizard, whojumped right for much of thecontest. “I bought him for £720 atAscot in July 2013, but he missed lastseason after sustaining an overreach

on the final day of the hunting season, hence the layoff,” said Mike.

Kostaquarta added a Mixed Open racevictory to his CV with another boldfront-running display. The eight-year-oldgoes into summer quarters after winningthree of his last four races. The win tooktrainer Jack Barber onto the 48-winnermark, seven behind his grandfatherRichard’s best-ever score.

Hennock Primary School head teacherNicky Dunford opened her account –with her first horse – when the EmmaOliver-trained Ernest Speak was left clearby Amber River’s final fence fall in the2m4f Maiden. “My daughter attends theschool and our string goes past every day– that made the connection,” explainedEmma.

Tim and Irene Sage’s Presentandcorrectrecorded his 15th career success underregular rider James King in the NoviceRiders’ race. “I saw James out hunting asa 12-year-old, noted him as a keen ladand decided then that I would use him asa jockey one day,” said Tim, who hasprovided four of James’ career successes.

Charlotte Budd took time off from hercatering business to saddle Restrictedwinner Golden Squirell. Patiently riddenby Robert Hawker, Golden Squirellforged clear of his six rivals in thestraight. “I set up a wedding reception atLydeard St Lawrence yesterday and I’moff to clear up now,” smiled Charlotte.Golden Squirell, who will not enter hishorsebox unless a stable companion isthere to provide company, had beenplaced in five of his eight outings since

The three pony races were won by FinnMuirhead riding Jobanker Morning Mist(138cms Div 1), Hamish Clark withTalponciau Perfect Print (138cms Div 2)and William Cox aboard Two TheManor Born.

WEST WALES AREA CLUBat LYDSTEPSunday, 24 Mayby Maria EvansThe third and final West Wales meetingat Lydstep this season was a popularone, with racecards selling out before thefirst race. The weather was whateveryone had hoped for too, with a dryday changing the going from good tosoft at the start of the day to good bythe end.

The Intermediate was the start of adouble for local lad John Mathias, whereDream Bolt made easy work of hisrivals, coming home 20 lengths ahead ofMister Bricolage and Jodie Hughes.Owned by Neil Adams and Dai Rees, the 7-year-old hasn’t finished out of thefirst three this season, with Rees saying:“He was a quirky sort last year and washard to train at first; he’s mellowed a lotnow, and the time has paid off.” Dream

Bolt may well run under Rules now forowner Dai Rees, with a trip overhurdles at 2m6f looking likely.

The second part of Mathias’ doublecame on Rosies Peacock, who waswinning for the seventh time over thecourse in the Mens Open. This wasthe pairs sixth win of the season, putting Rosies Peacock the joint-second horse in the national standings.Trainer David Llewellyn said that the12-year-old would run until the end ofthe season, running in either two orthree more races. Llewellyn was quickto joke that “we’ve finally got him fit,”after Mathias came back boasting thatthe horse had given him the bestfeeling for a couple of years, jumpingfor fun.

Nick Williams also went home with adouble, the first part of which came inHorses and Geldings Open Maiden onthe Gareth Moore-trained CaptainCamelot. Connections had onlybought the 6-year-old from JohnMathias six weeks ago, and ownerCarmen Goldsworthy, who has hadhorses all her life, said she’d “waited along time for a winner.” TrainerMoore’s uncle, John, had been inhospital the day before the meeting, but was keen to be present with agood hand of runners.

The last race of the day, the Restricted, gave Williams his second winner ofthe day, where Good Grammar foughtout a close finish to come home ahead better than Redbridge Rebel andPeter Bryan. It could have been aneven closer finish had Gardiners Hilland John Mathias not parted ways twoout. Good Grammar was running forthe first time for new owner ElvertWilkins who hails from Amroth, which is where trainer Dean Colemantrains. “He’s had a lot of problems, but after a few different treatmentshe’s back on track now,” said Coleman, and it looks like everything has paidoff after two disappointing runs forthe 7-year-old.

The Ladies Open saw Watch theBirdie and Hannah Lewis come homein front again in second gear, withHeavenstown and Jodie Hughes a fewlengths behind. Trainer Gareth Moorehas been in rich form lately, with fivewins from the last six runners. Whenasked what was next for the 7-year-oldmare, Moore’s uncle John didn’t wantto commit to anything as Watch theBirdie had come home a little lamewith a cut on her near fore.

According toShan’s husband Ross, the mare is “abit like my wife, mostly good but abit naughty, and can get a bitexcitable at times!” The coupleadmitted they’ve always known themare has ability, and praised jockeyWill Gordon for his commitment, driving from Devon to ride theirhorses.

The most emotional win of the daycame when Renta Gallery camehome the winner in the TBA ClubMembers Race for Mares and Fillies.Trainer Richard Thomas’ sister hadbeen diagnosed with cancer lastweek, and is having an operation thisweek, and so trainer Thomas wantedthe win to be dedicated to her. It wasalso his first winner as a trainer sincetaking over from his father Adrian, who also owned the horse. RentaGallery “has been a nightmare totrain, as she keeps cutting herself. She is a typical chestnut mare,”according to the trainer, but herability showed here coming hometwo lengths clear from the odds-onrecent Hunter Chase winner Kimoraand Mathew Barber.

ALBRIGHTON & WOODLAND(SOUTH) at CHADDESLEYCORBETTMonday, 25 Mayby Peter MansellThe Anglo-Irish Challenge has been amajor success in Ireland for the lasttwo years and Monday’s meeting atChaddesley Corbett proved equallyattractive to racegoers this side of theIrish Sea with a large crowd embracingthe concept of this annual team event.

The organisers were pleased with theresults of running an event of thismagnitude, which could not have beenachieved without the support of twomajor companies in MountainWarehouse and AGA.

The British Ladies carried all beforethem in the AGA-sponsored WestMidlands Area Club Members Racetaking first and second places whilethe Irish Male team restored somepride by taking first and third in theTattersalls and Irish ThoroughbredMarketing Restricted.

The scores from both events werethen combined which resulted in theBritish Riders retaining their vice likegrip on the Challenge (having won thetwo previous ones in Ireland) byoutscoring their rivals by 21 to 17.

Irish riders are not normally allowedto ride in British Point-to-Points butafter gaining dispensation from therelevant authorities Leading IrishRider Derek O’Connor made Point-to-Point history by guiding Force ofHabit in third place in the Mens Open.

Worcester based trainer Tom Westonand this year’s British Champion LadyJockey elect Gina Andrews combinedto take the first leg of the Anglo-IrishChallenge with Thoonavolla.

Maxine O’Sullivan sent Billing to thefront from the start where they werekept company by Skating Home andthese two dictated the pace for mostof the race.

Thoonavolla and Tick Tock Tim madetheir efforts racing down the backstraight for the final time and theyheld a substantial lead over SkatingHome as they met the rising groundwith three to jump.

Thoonavolla hit the front soonafterwards and the result was never indoubt from this point as his rivalsmade vain attempts to reduce thedeficit. The Hindlip trained geldingmaintained his relentless gallop in thehome straight to win by 15-lengths.

The 7-year-old was winning his fourthrace of the season for the TroubledPartnership, most of whom are basedlocally.

Derek O’Connor showed why he hasridden over 1,000 winners between theflags in his native Ireland with adominant display on Part and Parcel inthe Restricted.

The Ketchup Kid made the earlyrunning but Part and Parcel was neverfar away and with the formerweakening half a mile from homeO’Connor sent his mount to the front.

It needed all of O’Connor’s strengthand determination to keep his mountclear in the home straight. Thefavourite A Touch of Sass madesignificant progress from two out butthe winner had gone beyond recall andstormed home for a five-lengthsuccess, which restored some balanceback into the team competition.

Shropshire trainer Sheila Crow saddledher Cheltenham Hunter Chase winnerFruit Fayre in the Mens Open andthey did well to get the better of aprotracted battle with Charlie Dando’smount Iberico over the final twofences.

Doctor Kingsley made the earlyrunning in this contest but he wasgetting pushed along as the runnerswent out on to the second circuit. RunAlong Boy took over at the front bythe 13th, but Iberico also made aforward move.

The race changed shape as the runnersclimbed climbed the final hill. FruitFayre and Iberico started to draw clearof their rivals and Paddy Gerety’smount held a narrow advantageentering the home straight.

Charlie Dando sent Iberico up tochallenge and they made the mare pullout all the stops in the final couple offurlongs, with minor mistakes at the

final two fences not helping Iberico’scause.

The result of the Mares and FilliesMaiden saw the lead changedramatically in the closing stages.

Bridgnorth trainer Phil Rowley andEnville jockey Jane Williams are aformidable combination but severaltimes during the second half of thisrace it looked as though LeightonLass was struggling with the pace, buteach time she forced her way backinto contention.

Hanbury based Sue Bowen and herdaughter Sarah looked likely winnersof this contest with Shantara leadingher rivals on the final bend. Theywere still in front between the finaltwo fences but Miss Williams startedto get a response from Leighton Lassand after trailing at the last they drewclear on the run to the judge.

The winner was brought by hisWelshpool based connections atNewmarket last June. He finishedsecond on his debut at Eyton but asRowley explained later: “She wasbrought at the sales and then brokenand came to me. She has come on alot for her first run. That was over2m4f and we thought she wantedfurther”.

Gina Andrews, who had taken the firstleg of the Anglo/Irish challengeearlier in the afternoon went on tocomplete a treble courtesy of HighCounsel in the Ladies Open and CraigBreinn in the concluding Maiden.

High Counsel and Awesome Georgevied for favouritism in the Ladies butGina Andrews mount was constantlyout jumping Executive’s Hall down theback straight before they were joinedby Awesome George at the 14th.

High Counsel led on the home turnwhere the second appeared to getmomentarily outpaced. Having gotfirst run on his rival the leader waskept up to his work and prevailed in adriving finish.

Craig Beinn was the only one leftstanding in the concluding Maiden, thefinal race of the West Midland season.

Packermac Jack, Craign Beinn andSweet Belle had the race to themselvesentering the final mile and the latterwas still in contention when crumplingon landing over the third from home.

Packermac Jack was already fighting alosing battle when he capsized at thepenultimate, and that allowed thewinner to come home in splendidisolation.

SOUTH TETCOTTat UPCOTT CROSSMonday, 25 Mayby Granville TaylorDarren Edwards has been runner-upin the Devon & Cornwall jockeys’championship twice in recent years butlooks all set to lift that title for the firsttime this season.

Whilst regularly commuting back tohis West country roots from his job inLeicestershire, Darren hasaccumulated 22 winners this season, the latest of which came when heforced Mausefalle up to dead-heatwith Devon General in the Confinedrace at Upcott Cross.

Eight-year-old Mausefalle is owned byMike Bickell and trained by DeanSummersby who said: “He needs goodground and is a spring horse. We willprobably keep him for the latermeetings next season.”

Devon General, partnered by MattHampton, would probably have wonoutright but for less than fluentjumping over the last two fences. Thisseven-year-old, by Derby winnerGenerous, was bought as a partbroken four-year-old by owners Johnand Ruth Burrow and is trained byKayley Woolacott.

The Woollacott/Hampton duo struckagain in the following Mens Openthanks to Robin Will, whose challengewas timed to perfection as he headedPosh Totty jumping the last. “Heeither switches off or gets interested. He is quite tricky to train and blew

hard last time when he was short ofwork after a month’s break,”reported the trainer, who is enjoyinga tremendous season. Will Biddick’smount Posh Totty, who was seekingher seasonal hat-trick, was clearlysecond best this time, despite beingsent off 1-3 favourite.

The Novice Riders’ contest saw asequally short priced favourite, butthis time Cock Of The Rock didn’tfluff his lines and sauntered home atodds of 1-3 for his seventh win ofthe season. Young jockey HarryCobden is in line for a clutch ofNational Novice awards in his firstseason, including the Fuller’sGentleman Novice Rider award.Trainer Rachael Green is favourite tocollect the Connolly’s Red Millstrophy for the most successfultrainer of seven horses or fewer. This looks like being an earlywedding present for Rachael, whomarries her long time partnerAnthony Honeyball early in July.

Leanda Tickle holds a healthy leadfor the Devon & Cornwall ladyjockeys’ title this year after finishingrunner-up for that award twice inrecent seasons. She jumped-off infront on Ned White in the LadiesOpen and the gallant 13-year-oldmade all the running. “He likes topof the ground and his final racebefore retirement will probably be atBratton Down in two weeks time,”said Robert Chanin, who trains thisfive times Point-to-Point winner forowners Jacqui and Norman Elliott.

High Priority gained a deservedvictory for the Keith Cumings yardin the first of the two Maidens.Bought at Goffs as a four-year-old,“he was so backward and weak lastseason and loves this better ground,”reported connections. “He hadplenty in hand,” reported 23-year-oldjockey Josh Newman who hopes togain experience riding track work inAmerica this summer.

The other Maiden division went to25-1 outsider Baldhu High Tide, afirst training success for Lifton-based Lizzie Luxton. The gelding, wearing a hood for the first time, isowned by Lizzie’s mother SandyWevill, and was leaving some modestform behind him. “We bought himas a three-year-old from Steve Longand he has evented all his life,” saidLizzie.

Memories of the false start thatcaused the Grand National thatnever was (1993) were re-kindled inthe Restricted. The 14-runner racewas stopped at the end of the backstraight after the field had completedtwo circuits. It transpired that a falsestart had been caused by a horseplaying up as the starter dropped hisflag and the race was declared void.“I would have won,” was a popularcomment from at least three of thejockeys still going strongly as theywere eventually flagged to a halt inmotor racing Grand Prix style.

SCENE & HEARDBanksandditches, who triumphedbetween the flags at Kingston Blount onSunday, turned out again 48 hours laterto land the Paul Rackham ChampionNovices’ Hunters’ Chase at Huntingdonin the hands of Tom David.

“His jumping wasn’t very good today, but didn’t Tom give him a great ride?”enthused Clare Hobson, who trains himfor her father Harry, and for whom itwas an initial training success underRules. “He didn’t have a hard race onSunday, and was really lively when hewent out in the field for an hour, sothere was no reason not to run himagain.”

The nine-year-old was purchased for£3,100 at Ascot just five weeks earlier, having won three races for previousowner Martin Ward, but his form hadtailed off as the season progressed andMartin, who was in attendance at themeeting, explained that his charge hadgone very sour.

“Clare rode him for me a couple oftimes last year [including in thiscorresponding contest] and loved him,”continued Martin, “so the change ofscene has obviously helped him.”

After the Hobsons’ regular jockeyRichard Spencer was sidelined with afractured back, Clare turned to TomEllis, whose own season ended when hebroke his leg at Mollington, and it was

Richard who recommended Tom David.Tom, who has over 100 winners underhis belt, has been assistant to ZaraPhillips during the Point-to-Pointseason, but with her yard sending outfew runners he has had, by his standards,a quiet campaign.

Quiet, apparently, is not the word whichwould describe the post-racecelebrations in the Owners’ & Trainers’Bar, and Clare reported that Harry gotso excited he had to go home!

With David Kemp still out of actionwith ligament damage to his ankle, GinaAndrews took over in the saddle on HillOf Gold. Barry Belchem’s seven-year-old took up the running with a circuit togo and still led turning into the finalstraight, but Banksandditches was in hisslipstream and, taking over at the last, pulled well clear on the run-in.

Gina will don the same colours onMoroman in Stratford’s PertempsNetwork Champion Hunters’ Chase onFriday.

Elsewhere on the Huntingdon card, there was plenty to cheer for followersof the amateur sport, including victoryin the 2m4f Handicap Chase for theveteran Herecomesthetruth, partneredby Tom Cannon for trainer Chris

Gordon. Chris enjoyed over 140 Point-to-Point successes and was South Eastchampion on several occasions, whileTom was National Novice champion in2009/10 and has since booted homealmost 170 winners as a professional.

The 2013/14 Ladies’ National championBridget Andrews, who joined the paidranks before Easter, won theConditional Jockeys’ Hurdle on theRebecca Menzies-trained Celtic Artisan.Bridget is based with Dan Skelton, andthis was her third victory of the 2014/15campaign.

Neil King, who rode over 50 winners onthe East Anglian circuit before takingout a training licence, saddled MinnieMilan to take the 3m2f HandicapHurdle, and his stable jockey TrevorWhelan doubled up in the MaidenHurdle on Shwaiman, who was carryingthe colours of Michael Banks, a long-time official and steward in the region.

Runner-up to Shwaiman was FatherEdward, but the latter’s stablemateImprovisation had earlier landed theNovices’ Hurdle for John Fergusonwho, in addition to his countless winnersunder Rules, has enjoyed great successwith his Pointers in recent seasons.

MEYNELL & SOUTHSTAFFORDSHIRE at GARTHORPESaturday, 30 Mayby Emma ForemanThe final meeting of 2015 atGarthorpe takes place on Saturdaywhen the Meynell & SouthStaffordshire Hunt hold their seasonalfinale. A bumper day of action is instore with five pony races starting at12.30pm followed by seven Point-to-Point races commencing at 2.30pm.

The Dog Agility Ring will be in actionat 1pm with funds going to the AirAmbulance and there will be a Houndrace and Hound Parade at 4.20pmwith a 50 minute gap between theMixed Open race and the OpenMaiden race. The final race is due offat 5.55pm and 109 entries have beentaken in total.

Lough Inch has won at all fourmeetings at Garthorpe this season andbids for a remarkable fifth consecutivewin at the course to seal his positionas the Southwell Racecourse LeadingHorse at track. Trained by TomMorgan at Waltham-on-the-Wolds theeight-year-old has the option ofrunning in either the Intermediate or

the PPORA Club Members race forNovice Riders.

The Morgan team started the weekwell with Part And Parcel winning atChaddesley Corbett with top IrishPoint-to-Point champion DerekO'Connor in the saddle in one of theAnglo Irish Challenge races. LoughInch looks set to be the Leading Horseand his rider Kelly Morgan has anunassailable lead in the SouthwellRacecourse Lady Rider'schampionship at Garthorpe.

Likewise Tom Strawson has theGentleman Riders championship inthe bag too; the Midlands AreaLeading Rider has enjoyed a highlysuccessful season with five winners atthe Leicestershire venue. These awardswill be given out after the last race.

Lough Inch is likely to find theIntermediate race the easier option;the main opponent to him here wouldbe Judy Wilson's Proximo whoshowed his renewed well-being at theMelton Hunts Club and seems to haveovercome his health problems, JohnnyBailey will once again be in the saddle.Heather Kemp's Edgar Henry wassecond to Proximo that day and the

pair may renew rivalry although LucyWheeler will not be able to ride owingto a broken collarbone sustained atDingley recently.

Another danger would be StephEasterby's Yorkshire raider Aldrethwho has gone through from Maidento Conditions company winning hislast three races. Only a four-year-old,Aldreth will have plenty moreimprovement to come and will makethe most of all the weight allowances;he is likely to have the YorkshireArea’s Leading Rider Will Easterby inthe saddle. She's Real will end theseason as the Leading Mare atGarthorpe and holds an entry in theIntermediate race; she will be biddingfor a third course win in 2015 for theChatfeild-Roberts family.

James and Fred Henderson have everychance of ending the season with awinner in the PPORA Club Membersrace for Novice Riders; they haveOliver James, Thanks For Coming andDream Garden entered. Oliver Jameshas been lightly raced this time but haswon both his starts; a Members race atLockinge and an Intermediate atWhitfield. Thanks For Coming was agood second to Gonalston Cloud at

the last meeting here while DreamGarden has won and been placed threetimes in Conditions races.

Kiestown Chief was fourth in theNovice Riders final at Tabley and anyrain that falls would benefit hischances. Alan Hill has Done A Runnerand Minella Theatre entered; they areboth winners of similar races thisseason and are worthy ofconsideration.

Minella Theatre, Proximo, Oliver Jamesand Dream Garden all have the optionof running in the opening ClubMembers race. Here Oliver Greenall'sQuantum Theory will be looking toend the season as he started it, with awin. Gary Hanmer's Third Of TheThird may be the one they have tobeat; he won an Intermediate racebefore finishing second in a MixedOpen on his latest runs at Tabley.

Hanmer also has two entries in theMixed Open; Time Gentleman whoalso likes Tabley having been unbeatenin his last three starts at that courseand High Counsel who won atChaddesley Corbett on Monday somay not run. Awesome George wassecond to High Counsel on Monday sohe may also side step this race and theHenderson entry Otto The Great wasthird on Sunday at Kingston Blount.

Gerald Bailey has Sandpipers enteredand Alex Vaughan-Jones' horse haswon four times this season; he is tenbut has progressed to winning anOpen on his last outing and should filla place at least.

The 3m Open Maiden could go toPauline Harkin's Ask Away who hasrun with promise this season notablyat the last meeting at Garthorpe whenfinishing second and again when thirdat Chaddesley Corbett on Monday.Kayjaydee ran third behind Ask Awaythat day at Garthorpe; she has hadinjury problems this year and will havecome on for that run, she would bethe pick if Ask Away misses this.

Treacyswestcounty has been second intwo Restricted races since winning aMaiden in April and has a very goodchance to go one better in theRestricted on Saturday for BridgetHunt and Heather Kemp. Others toconsider include Oliver Greenall'sDesert Sting who has been placed in anumber of Restricted races before hisjumping started to let him down.Steph Easterby's Knightofthegarter isa former Michael Tabor-owned horseand is very well bred; he is five andwon a Maiden at Easingwold on hislatest start and is an interesting recruitto the Pointing ranks.

The improving The Ultimate Ladshould be able to win the final OpenMaiden race over 2m4f for the JulieMarles stable.

BORDER at HEXHAMSunday, 31 Mayby Peter BurgonThe Northern Area Point-to-Pointseason draws to a close on Sundaywith the Border fixture at HexhamRacecourse. It has attracted 98 entries,

including 43 from Yorkshire, on aseven race card, which starts at 2pm.

Milano Magic is in the form of his lifeand bids for a five-timer in the NPPAClub Members Race. AlistairCochrane's charge cruised home fromThe Gotfor Man and ProbablyGeorge in the recent HaydonIntermediate and that form wasfranked when the third landed aCartmel Maiden Hunters' Chase earlierthis week. Of the others, The Brig AtAyr and Back On The Road filled theminor placings behind Viacometti inthe Haydon equivalent; Fight AwayBoys stayed on well to win last week'sCumberland Restricted; whileDamiens Dilemma, who has wonthree of his last six starts, needs tofinish first or second to clinch theNorthern Area Novice HorseChampionship.

Clonea Power heads the 13 entries forthe Restricted Race. At his best on asound surface, Charles Carr's mounthas been campaigned in Opencompany since getting off the mark atDalston two years ago and willappreciate the drop in grade.According To Dan was always up withthe pace in the Haydon equivalent inwhich he finished two lengths 2nd toFarm Pixie and has every chance ofgoing one better here. Little But Nicefinally opened her account at Aspatria, while the improving Paddy's Wish hasenjoyed a four week break sincefinishing four lengths 2nd toDannanceys Hill at Mosshouses.

There is plenty of quality among the20 Ladies Open entries with the listincluding Cottage Oak, OaklandsBobby, Ockey de Neulliac, OscarStanley, Rolecarr and Whiteabbey. Thelatter completed a hat-trick at Aspatriaand is guaranteed to be in the mixagain as he bids to repeat last year'ssuccess in this race. Oscar Stanley isstill on the upgrade and stayed on wellto beat Temple Green and Rolecarr inthe Lauderdale equivalent. Ockey DeNeulliac has won five of his sixPointing starts this season, the onlyreverse coming when headed on therun-in at Witton Castle by OaklandsBobby. Joe O'Shea's 12-year-oldgelding, Cottage Oak, also entered inthe Mens Open, has maintained hisform remarkably well in a six-monthlong campaign. Most recently hefinished 2nd to Current Event atCheltenham's Hunter Chase meetingbefore going one better under JackAndrews at Tabley.

There should be plenty of runners inthe Mens Open Race from a bumperentry of 27. The highest rated pair arethe aforementioned Cottage Oak andstable companion, Executive Benefit. The latter has enjoyed plenty ofsuccess in a busy season, winning fiveof her nine starts, and also has theoption of running in the concluding

TBA Mares Club Members Race.Gunner Jack will only run if there is adeluge of rain before Sunday. Provenstayer, Royal Chatelier is another onehoping he gets soft or heavy ground. The in-form Splendid Blue, three fromthree on left-handed tracks in 2015,might also wait for the TBA Marescontest. The other one for theshortlist is ex-hurdler, Lucky Cody, who was allowed to dictate the pacefrom the off when beatingSportingfriendship and Pevensey inthe Bilsdale Mixed Open earlier thismonth.

There are five Yorkshire raiders in thesix Open Maiden Race entries.Stagecoach Jasper and Chester Legendfinished well behind Chaz Michaelswhen third and fifth respectively in theHaydon equivalent a fortnight ago, inwhich Lucky Sun still held everychance when unseating four out.Raasay has been in poor form this yearbut did finish two lengths 2nd to AthDara Boru over course and distancetwelve months ago, while Dicky Shoreand Island Punch were both pulled upat Mordon last time out.

Don't Point and Hands On Scarletfinished in that order behind KinderScout at Aspatria last Saturday and arethe only two of the seven entries forthe two and a half mile Open Maiden

Race with placed form this season.Encouraging was beaten around twelvelengths when 4th to Bugler's Dreamover this trip at Mordon, while KapeRose Jipe was disputing second in afour-runner Maiden when falling twoout on her debut at Garthorpe threeweeks ago.

After failing to attract many runners inrecent years, the Border Members Racehas been replaced by the TBA ClubMembers Race. The nine entries includelast time out winners, Rush House,Splendid Blue and Stand Clear, as well asthe aforementioned Executive Benefitand Durban Gold. The latter scoredover three miles and five furlongs in theTynedale Ladies Open at Corbridge inMarch before striking again at Dalston.

Bray Leino sponsor the Ladies Openrace, and Moore ScarrottAccountants sponsor the Mens Open, which look to be the feature races ofthe day. Local trainer Claire Hitchcould snatch the Ladies race withMinella Fifty having won at MilborneSt Andrew under jockey CharlottePrichard, when sent off favourite thatday. Top Chief from the StuartSampson team also holds strongclaims having won the Members racehere two weeks ago under jockey JakeBament.

In the Mens Open Whataknight wonhere under champion jockey WillBiddick for the Jack Barber team. Theequally rated Parkham Jack also holdsan entry at the Stratford HunterChase evening this Friday, but couldgo close if the Woollacott teamchoose to run him here. Level Spiritfrom the Ed Walker yard clocked upwins at both Flete Park meetings anda second at Holnicote, and LittleCornham, with his wins at BadburyRings and Cothelstone, from theKeith Cumings team, are two othersuggestions that catch the eye.

Trainer Claire Hitch holds threestrong entries in the openingMembers race which is sponsored byRSM Beares & B Thornes & SonsAgric, including Bernshaw, a winnerhere at the first meeting giving WillBiddick his record breaking victory.I'm All Set is another possible runnerfrom the Hitch yard who could gowell having already clocked up aseasons hat-trick, including the

Intermediate race at Trebudannon. The Mystro from the Keith Cumingsteam ran well in the Maiden here atthe last meeting, when a neck secondbehind Bugsie Malone could giveanother strong challenge.

The Rosettes Direct-sponsoredRestricted race could go the way ofthe Joe Tickle-trainedTemplestateforesco to follow up onhis neck second at Vauterhill. TheFlying Doc from the Ed Walkerteam could be another to notehaving shown some good formwhen winning at Didmarton.

The lightly raced Credit Crunchedcould figure in the Intermediate raceto follow on from his four lengthsecond at Whitfield in March, WhatAbout Will was unlucky to finish aneck second in a small field atLarkhill and should go close. Thisrace is sponsored by Ashley Farrantand the Kingdon family in memoryof Donna Kingdon.

It is likely that the Open Maidenrace will be divided on the day with30 entered. Suggestions could beLooking For Mick who ran apromising second here at the lastmeeting, and Kit Hill from the Jackiedu Plessis team who ran well at FletePark when second, having led untilheaded by winner Nudge TheNugget in the final 50 yards. TheMaiden races, if divided, will besponsored by The Old StationHouse Inn and Slee BlackwellSolicitors.

NORTH HEREFORDat HEREFORD RACECOURSESunday, 31 Mayby Stella HavardThe North Herefordshire Hunt’sdecision to run at HerefordRacecourse on Sunday at the end ofthe Welsh Border season rather thanopening it in February at Whitwick, has been well justified with 128 entries.

John Pearson and Bake Phillips havedone an excellent job of preparing thefences and replacing the damagedopen ditch, with the course’s headgroundsman, John Glover, now poisedto water the course from Thursdayonwards as necessary.

It must be noted that the race timesare NOT as scheduled in The Planner, but that the two fully-subscribed PonyRaces will be at 1pm, and the firstPoint-to-Point race at 2pm.

The Members’ race, however, hassadly only attracted three entries, ofwhich Ice Cool Benny is the top rated. He has not run since being 5th in theLady Dudley Cup, whereas Spikewoodwon a Restricted ‘match’ by six lengthsat Upper Sapey recently, where stablecompanion, Look Left, pulled up.

Minellacelebration, from Katy Price’sHay-on-Wye stable, is a course winnerhere this season, and has not been outof the frame this year. He currentlyheads the Area Leading HorseChampionships, and connections willbe anxious for more points on theboard. Two of his serious opponentsopted to run at Chaddesley Corbett,

Ed Walker’s Level Spirithas been in excellentform of late and couldattempt to make it threewins in his last four startswhen he lines up atBratton Down

and are unlikely to appear, but RussianEmpire and Beallandendall were bothBredwardine victors. The honestRaleagh House put in a good round towin at Upper Sapey recently. Murphy’sFusilier is a course winner here at thisfixture last year.

With 36 entries received for the MixedOpen and a safety factor of 18, a splitis predicted. Rachael Green’s charge,Cock of The Rock, is the highestrated, with seven seasonal victories tohis credit, the latest at Upcott Cross.Victoria Collins’ Gauvain is a majorcontender as a course winner and thisrace may decide the Area Owners titlefor the Muriel Jenkins Memorialtrophy, as Sarah Dawson ownsGauvain, and Charlotte Reynoldsowns Midnight Haze, who also hasserious claims after his Cold HarbourLadies race victory. These ownerscurrently tie at the top of the table. But there are so many entries withchances – Rosies Peacock (won six and

placed three times in 2015) and RepeatBusiness (won three this year, thelatest by eight lengths) to name but acouple.

The Restricted, with 27 possibles, maybe where the promising Green Winter, trained by John Bryan, fulfils hispotential, having been leading atBredwardine when falling at the 16thfence. Drivehomeregardless wasrecently runner up at Tabley, whileGlassawine ran on well to win a Hunt‘match’ at Mollington. Castle Connellimpressed when winning at BramptonBryan.

The first of the three Maiden races, the ‘Young Horse’ Maiden over 2m4f,has attracted 16 entries, and perhapsGlyn Slade-Jones’ consistent mare, MyFair Rose may go one better than herlast run here as a bridesmaid. But JulieMarles’ The Ultimate Lad put in agutsy run at Tabley recently to only failby a neck, and Cab On Times, Mystery

Edition and Overtoyoujay have allbeen recent runners-up.

Several horses, including My Fair Roseand Cab On Times are double-entered, and it should be noted whichoption connections choose. ButFlembrandt ran on gamely atMollington to finish 3rd in a very tightfinish to starts ago, and catches the eyeamongst the 17 aimed for the JockeyClub Open Maiden for Mares &Fillies.

The final race of the 2015 WelshBorder season, the Open Maiden Racemay be an earth-shaking one forEmlyn Parry’s Earth Tremor, who hasbeen runner-up no fewer than seventimes in the past two seasons. MasterEleanor would be a topical bet here,(one of NHH MFH’s is EleanorBulmer) and is not without a chance.Marc Barber’s charge, Welsh Designer, drops back to his own class here andshould not be overlooked.

Gauvain could be heading to Hereford as Sarah Dawsonlooks to clinch the Area’s Owners title

THE RIDERS & PONIES CHAMPIONSHIPPOINTS SERIESThe Riders & Ponies Championship Points Series will run throughout the season for both 138cms and 148cms riders/ponies. It has become a highly competitive affair with points being allocated to the first four past the post. The rider andowner of the pony from each height category with the most points at the end of the season will be presented with their prizesat Cheltenham Races in October. It seems the most natural venue for the event being the home of National Hunt Racing andgives the award winners a taste of what might come following their time pony racing.

THE RACETECH GRADUATE AWARDThe Rider who gains the most points throughout the season via the Champion Points Series and who plans to go on and ridein Point-to-Point Races the following year will be offered sponsorship via the Riders Sponsorship Scheme (RSS) fromRaceTech – this only applies to those riders who turn 16 during the 2015/16 Point-to-Point Season. The RSS is a sponsorship initiative created by the Point-to-Point Authority, which enables riders to source sponsorship toassist the costs associated with riding.
