Pioneers Receive Picture Charter Members of Igloo No. One From Louise Esch
The Pioneers of Alaska are the
recipients of a most-treasured gift from a former Alaskan, Mrs. Louise Esch, who left Nome in 1910.
Mrs. Esch, who lives at Banning, California, has a picture of the charter members of the Pioneers of Alaska from which she had a
duplicate made for Igloo No. 1.
She presented it to Pioneer Presi- dent Robert Baldwin through her
daughter, Mrs. Ralf Reat.
Although Mrs. Esch has not
‘been here since 1910 she has been
one of the active California sour-
doughs who relive the eventful
M-K 4-Motored Plane Cracked Up On Island
The MK 4-engine plane, an LB 30 which has been freighting to St. Lawrence Island all summer, cracked up Saturday while taking off from the field on the island.
Although there were passengers no one was injured, it was repor- ted. The plane was piloted by Fred Alexander, who has been
flying for the company on this
project for the past two months.

13 CAP Cadets Go On Overnight Hike
Saturday afternoon, thirteen of the Nome CAP Cadets, under command of training officer Lt. Bob Emmons, went on an over-
night hike to Dexter.
The group spent the night in
pup tents and after, drilling sev-
eral new members, they marched back to town. Both boys and girls of the Cadets participated and they were chaperoned by Lt. Alice Hudson, CAP fiscal officer.
Next Friday afternoon, after school is out, the Cadets plan a
trip up the Kougarak railroad to Bunker Hill. Present plans call for them to return to Nome early Sunday afternoon.
Search Continues for Body Of Eric Nelson
The search for the body of Eric Nelson, lost a week ago in Safety Lagoon, continued over the week- end. The U. S. Commissioner sta- ted this morning that the 54’2nd
engineers helicopter searched from the air yesterday but no sign of the missing man was found.
Frank Coplin stated this morn-
ing the finishing touches have
been put on his new bar in the
building formerly known as the
Nevada Bar. The new bar is called the Golden Goose Bar and will run
in conjunction with the Golden Goose Grill, operated b>\ Emory Ewalt. Mr. Ewalt also operates the Nevada apartments.
Mr. Coplin is the owner of the New Lincoln Bar, which has been
recently completely renovated, in-
side and out, greatly improving the appearance of the property.

Mrs. Heuston Alexander has re-
placed Phyllis Roell at the Nome Post Office. Phyllis Roell has re-
placed Alberta McAllister at Wien’s office, and Mrs. McAllister is now employed at the office of the Alaska Airlines.

Funeral For C. C. Tanner Held Saturday Afternoon
Friends of C. C. Tanner gath- 1 ered at the Community Methodist Church Saturday afternoon to pay their last respects to their de-
| parted friend. Rev. Robert Treat
was in charge o*f the service and
Mayor Charles Jones expressed the sentiments of the town in a
most fitting eulogy. Music was furnished by Mrs.
Carrie McLain and Mrs. Robert Treat, who sang “Abide With Me” and “Lead Kindly Light”.
Pallbearers were Dewey Good- rich, M. J. Walsh, Pete Olson, Ted Duffield, Bill Gillis, and Nick Sim- eon. After the service the body was laid to rest at Belmont Point Cemetery.
W. L. LeMarter of the Juneau office of the Employment Security Commission is here on a field trip

the Polaris Hotel and will be glad to talk over any problems with

sumed their duties at the Nome School. Mr. Williams will teach the seventh and eighth grades and
