Do you know about the great passover story of Israel, God’s chosen people. Well it begins in Egypt where a new king saw just how mighty and strong

this nation was. So he decided to place taskmasters over them & they became the slaves of the Egyptians. And oh did the Israelite slaves

work and work for Pharaoh, building treasure cities like Pithom & Ramses! Now the bondage of

Israel was very harsh & dif!cult but no matter what, they continued to increase in number.

Long Ago in Egypt

Well Pharaoh was none too please with Israel. What nation was this that continued to grow & grow? So he took it a step further. The evil king spoke to the

midwives of Egypt & commanded them that henceforth, all baby boys born of Israel should be

killed right away! But the midwives were too afraid to do something so ugly & evil. When Pharaoh saw that the midwives would not obey he was very angry & commanded all his people that any Hebrew boy

born should be cast into the river.

Israel Grew & Grew!

Now there was a husband & wife, both Israelites of the tribe of Levi. The woman became pregnant and when she gave birth it was a son, a beautiful bundle of joy. She loved him very much and decided to hide him away for 3 months. When she could no longer hide him, she made an ark out of bulrushes and covered it with tar & pitch. Then she placed the child in it and set it by the plants at the edge of the river. His sister, Miriam, stood afar off to watch what would happen to him. Poor little baby!

Guess who noticed the baby boy in the ark? It was the daughter of Pharaoh. She along with her maidens were washing in the river, when she saw the ark by the plants. One of the maids went to get the ark and brought it to Pharaoh’s daughter. She opened the ark and the baby cried & cried. “This is one of the Hebrew’s children,” she said and she felt very sorry for him. Now Miriam, who was watching her baby brother, asked Pharaoh’s daughter “Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?”

The Baby in the Ark

The nurse that Miriam brought to Pharaoh’s daughter was actually her and the baby’s mother. She was very smart wasn’t she? Pharaoh’s daughter then asked the mother to nurse the baby and she would pay her. The Hebrew woman did as she was told and after the baby grew a little older she gave him unto the daughter of Pharaoh who raised the child as though he was her own. And the child’s name was Moses.

And They Called Him Moses

Moses grew up to be an adult under the care of Pharaoh’s daughter in Egypt. Yet, he knew that the Hebrew slaves were his people for he saw the trouble that they went through and his heart went out to them. One day, he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew. Seeing that no one else was there to witness, Moses killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

The very next day, Moses saw two Hebrews !ghting each other. He then asked the one who was in the

wrong, “Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?” And the Hebrew man responded, “Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian?” Moses was so scared when he heard this

because it meant that others knew what he had done. Now when Pharaoh heard what Moses did to the Egyptian he wanted to kill him but before he could, Moses escaped

to the land of Midian.
