Film certification is the end product of the process ofpreviewing of film. It is to ensure that the children do notget exposed to psychologically damaging matter.

The Certification rules also apply to foreign films importedinto India , dubbed films and video films. The certificationdoes not apply to films made specifically for Doorsdarshanand Doordarshan has its own system of examining suchfilms.

Some of the objectives, the Board of Film Certification shall

ensure that-- Human sensibilities are not offended by vulgarity,

obscenity or depravity;

- Scenes involving sexual violence against women likeattempt to rape, or any form of molestation, are avoided and if

such incident is relevant to the theme, they shall be reduced tothe minimum;

- Friendly relations with foreign States are not strained;

The Board shall scrutinize the titles of the films and ensurethat they are not provocative, vulgar, offensive or violative

of any of the above-mentioned guidelines.
