GMAT FORMATThe GMAT includes an essay writing section, an Integrated Reasoning (IR) section, a quantitative section, and a verbal section, presented in that order.

GMAT SCORINGImmediately after taking the GMAT, you will receive your subscores (0-60 scale) for the quantitative and verbal sections, as well as a combined overall score (200-800), and your score for the IR section (1-8 scale). You will then have two minutes to decide whether to accept or cancel your scores. If you accept your scores, you will receive a separate score for the essay section (0-6), which will be in your official score report. You can take the test up to 5 times in a 12 month period. When you complete your exam, the score for your IR, quant, and verbal section is available immediately. You can choose to keep or cancel your scores after you have seen them.

WHAT IS THE GMAT?The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized, computer-adaptive exam that has been the main business school admissions test for the past 60 years.

QUICK FACTS:

RULES: No calculator, no spell check, no phone.

B-SCHOOLS: Only consider your HIGHEST reported score.

ABOUT COMPUTER-ADAPTIVE TESTINGThe GMAT is a computerized exam that adapts to your ability level. You must answer questions in the order they are presented; as you answer questions correctly, you will be given harder questions. Through this process, the exam will determine your ability level and score you based not on the number of questions you answer correctly, but on the difficulty level of the questions you answer correctly. That means most test takers—even those with high scores—get almost half of the questions wrong!
