year as Head Coach of the
Roadrunners. Brian is a
graduate of Gateway Regional
High School and Rutgers
University [Camden]. Brian
attended Gloucester County
College where he played Basketball and Tennis. He also works
at the college as the Assistant Director of Athletics. Rowan
was named the 2012 NJCAA Division III National Coach of
the Year and the NJCAA Region 19 Coach of the Year. He has
won four NJCAA National Championships with the GCC Men’s
Tennis Team.

daughters.
Brian Rowan, Head Coach
The 2013 Roadrunners will
look to continue the programs
Regional and National success.
The Roadrunners are coming
off a very successful season
which included winning the
Garden State Athletic
Conference, the NJCAA Re-
gion 19 Tournament, and win-
ning the programs first NJCAA
Division III National Champi-
onship.
Head Coach Brian Rowan has
a good group of returning
student-athletes and also a fine
group of incoming freshman to
work with and has put
together a competitive sched-
ule for the team.
Returning Players:
The Roadrunners bring back
six players from the team that
had the most success in pro-
gram history. Terra McHenry
was named the MVP of the
National Tournament in 2012
and will likely find herself at or
near the top of the lineup this
season. Tori Yeich and Kelly
Stanton were both All-
Americans in singles and dou-
bles last season. Michelle
Duerstock reached the semifi-
nals of the National Tourna-
ment at #2 singles last season.
Jessica Barney teamed with
Stanton for an undefeated sea-
son at #3 doubles last season
and is the last returning start-
er. Laura Steffen was a reserve
last season and will look to
work her way into the lineup
this year as well.
2013 Season Outlook
Newcomers:
Recruiting is the key to
consistent success at the inter-
collegiate level and the Road-
runners have brought in anoth-
er very good class for 2013.
Victoria Russell (Woodstown)
and Kelly Davis (Kingsway)
both are coming off successful
high school singles seasons and
could challenge for top spots
in the lineup. Lauren Palmer-
chuck, Becky Pierpont, and
Madison Underwood were
three of the four top doubles
players in the county last year
and all will likely contribute
this season.
Also competing for time in the
GCC lineup this season will be
Abby Toy, Noelle Brecht, and
Marthalynn Johnson. Each has
shown flashes of great tennis in
the pre-season and if they add
consistency they will
contribute nicely and could
challenge any of the top
players in the lineup.
The Competition:
The Roadrunners will face
some new challenges in the
2013 season. In addition to
traditional Region XIX rivals
Mercer CC, Ocean CC,
Brookdale CC, and Bergen
CC, three new programs have
entered the Region for 2013.
Newcomers Bucks CC,
Northampton CC, and Phila-
delphia CC all are unknown at
this point but have potential to
have strong programs. In addi-
tion to the Region schedule
the Roadrunners will face tra-
ditional National Champion-
ship Tournament qualifiers Suf-
folk CC and Hagerstown CC
during the regular season.
New for 2013:
In August the Roadrunner
Tennis courts were given a
makeover and sport the US
Open blue and green color
scheme.

The Roadrunner Tennis Pro-
gram has a strong commitment
to community service. Each
team will participate in a minimum of one ser-
vice activity per season and players are encour-
aged to continue to work with community
organizations throughout the year. The 2013
team has already participated in ―Operation
Backpack‖ collecting 12 new backpacks all
stuffed with school supplies that were deliv-
ered to the Volunteer Center of Gloucester
County and delivered to families in need to
help with the start of the school year.
Community Service
Past teams have also participated in a variety of causes:

success of student-athletes in both the men’s
and women’s programs. To be named an NJCAA
Academic Award winner you must have earned a

The concept of a community
college in Gloucester County
dates back to 1965 when the
county electorate approved
referendum to establish a community college. Some 600 charter students
were the first to enroll at GCC in September, 1968, attending classes at
Deptford High School and Monongahela Junior High School. In February,
1970, ground was broken for the first buildings on the new campus.
That May, GCC held its first graduation for 180 men and women. Today,
Gloucester County College offers more than 70 associate degree programs
and certificates and serves nearly 5,000 credit students. The Lifelong Learning
division provides non-credit, continuing education and training programs to
an additional 5,000 area residents. GCC's cutting-edge academic programs are
geared toward current market demands.
Network Management and E-Commerce prepare students for immediate
employment or transfer. Paralegal and Ford ASSET students complete
internships and graduate ready to excel in the workforce. The Teachers 2000
cohorts of education majors are getting ready to meet the state's shortage of
teachers in the coming decade. A Quality faculty is key to the success of
GCC's programs. They are experts in their fields, enthusiastic about sharing
their knowledge and know-how. In addition, services for students are second
to none. financial aid, scholarships, career assistance and transfer counseling
enrich every student's experience.
Growth of the Gloucester County College campus has kept pace with
program and service enhancements. In autumn 1970, students began attending
classes in the Instructional Center, the first building completed on campus.
The College Center, Physical Education Center and Fine Arts Center opened
in 1971. In 1988, GCC dedicated the Library and Student Services Center.
In 1993, the College constructed the Early Childhood Education Center
and the Nursing, Allied Health and Technology Center. Also included in the
expansion program was an addition to the Physical Education Center housing
the Gloucester County Police Academy, Fitness Center and enhanced physical
education programs. In 1997, GCC dedicated the Learning Resource Center.
This $3 million project includes the ground-level Barnes & Noble College
Store, an interactive TV classroom, a large academic services lab with
60 computers and two classrooms. An $8.1 million expansion program began
in 2001, including construction of Scott Hall, a $6.5 million Science &
Technology Center housing chemistry and biology facilities and state-of-the-
art computer labs and classrooms. A separate project involved a $1 million
conversion of the concrete Grand Plaza into a gently sloping green area, with
walkways linking most major campus buildings.
Gloucester County College—History
Over the past two decades, the GCC Athletic Program has been rec-
ognized at the state, regional and national levels as one of the most out-
standing programs in the country. In 2011-12, the Roadrunners received
the NATYCAA Cup Award for having the best non-scholarship NJCAA
program in the country for the third year in a row. This marked the sixth
consecutive year that GCC has finished in third place or higher in this
prestigious national awards program. The Roadrunners also received
their eleventh CAANJ Cup for having the best two-year college athletic
program in the state of New Jersey and won this award for the seventh
consecutive year.
GCC teams have won 22 NJCAA Division III National Championships
including women’s softball, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, and women’s
cross country teams during 2012. The Athletic Department has had 55
teams finish in the top three in the country over the past 20 years.
The Roadrunners compete in the Garden State Athletic Conference
against other two-year schools from New Jersey as well as Region 19 of
the NJCAA, which consists of colleges from Delaware, Pennsylvania and
New Jersey.
Intercollegiate sports offered at GCC include:
• Cross Country (Men and Women)
• Tennis (Men and Women)
• Outdoor Track and Field (Men and Women)

GCC Athletic Program—History
Ronald H. Case has presided over a run of unprecedented success since
becoming Gloucester County College's Director of Athletics in 1991.
During his tenure, the Roadrunners have achieved top 3 national finishes
on a total of thirty-three occasions. The Roadrunners have won twenty-
two NJCAA Division III National Championships: Wrestling(1996,
1998,1999, 2000, 2002, and 2007), Baseball (1992, 1993, 1999, 2000, 2005
and 2010), Men's Basketball (1994), Men's Cross Country (1995), Women’s
Cross Country (2007, 2012), Men’s Tennis (2010), Softball (2011, 2012)
and Women’s Tennis (2012).
In 2010, the Gloucester County College Athletic program was recognized
as the top Division III Junior College Athletic program in the Country. A
true accomplishment for an overall successful athletic department. The
Roadrunners went on to repeat this honor in both 2011 and 2012. The
Gloucester County College Athletic Program was recognized as the top
community college program in the state of New Jersey during the 1997-98 school year, when it was awarded
the inaugural CAANJ Cup which is presented by the Collegiate Athletic Administrators of New Jersey and the
New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. The Roadrunners continued this tradition by winning the CAANJ
Cup in 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2001-02, 2005-06 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011 and 2011-
2012. Furthermore, in 2009 Ron Case was inducted into the Gloucester County Sports Hall of Fame.
A strong supporter of women's athletics and gender equity, Case has been instrumental in the development
of intercollegiate programs in women's soccer and softball (1994-95) and the re-birth of women's basketball
during the 1998-99 school year. Under Case's guidance, the women's tennis program has prospered and the
women's cross country and track & field programs have risen to national prominence.
Gloucester County College's facilities have undergone a major face-lift during Case's tenure. A new fitness/
wellness center, gymnasium and locker room renovations, installation of an outdoor irrigation system, and
major improvements to all outdoor playing fields are all part of the improvement in athletic facilities that have
occurred at the college under Case's supervision.
In 1998, Ron Case was elected to a four-year term as a member of the National Association of Collegiate
Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Executive Committee. He received NACDA's National Athletic Director of
the Year Award for the Northeast Region in 2003. Case is a Past-President of the National Alliance of Two-
Year College Athletic Administrators, has served as a member of NATYCAA's Executive Committee since
1993 and received that organization's highest award, the L. William Miller Award in 2002. Case also served as
the President of the Collegiate Athletic Administrators of New Jersey during the 2000-01 school year and has
served on the CAANJ Executive Committee since 1995.
Case served as the Garden State Athletic Conference President from 1996-98 and as the GSAC's secretary
from 1994-96. He was the NJCAA Region XIX Wrestling Chair 1992-2003 and Baseball Chair from 1994-2003.
In 2003 Ron Case became the Region XIX Women's Director for all Women's Sports.
Prior to coming to GCC, Case was the Women's Head Soccer and Softball Coach at Colgate University from
1987-91. From 1979-87 he served as the Men's Head Soccer and Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Penn
State University's Delaware County Campus. Case received his Master's Degree in Physical Education from the
State University of New York at Cortland in 1979. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Cortland in 1974.
Ron Case, Athletic Director
Mr. Rowan joined the GCC staff full-time in the fall of 2008 as the Assistant
Director of Athletics. Prior to joining the GCC full-time staff he spent the last
4 seasons as the men’s tennis coach while teaching history and coaching the
Varsity boys’ basketball team at Triton Regional High School in Runnemede, NJ.
Mr. Rowan also enjoyed stints as the Varsity boys’ tennis coach and assistant
football coach while at Triton RHS.
Mr. Rowan earned his associates degree from Gloucester County College in the spring of 1997
before moving on to Rutgers University-Camden. While at GCC, Mr. Rowan was a member of
both the men’s basketball team and the men’s tennis team. He continued his basketball career
at Rutgers-Camden after finishing at GCC. In 2005, Mr. Rowan earned his Master’s Degree in
Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.
Also in 2005, Mr. Rowan was hired to upgrade the men’s tennis program here at GCC as the
new tennis courts were opened. Since 2005, the team has won its first Region XIX Championship
(2007) and compiled the best single season record in school history, a 15-4 mark in 2012. He has
also been named NJCAA Region XIX Coach of the Year five times ( 08, 09, 10, 11, 12). In 2010,
the men’s tennis team won their first team National Championship in program history. The Road-
runners repeated that feat in 2011 and won their third National title in 2012.
Mr. Rowan will continue to monitor the academic progress system for student athletes that is
in place for all student athletes at GCC. The academic progress monitoring system enables the
GCC staff to work closer with the student athletes and assist and direct them with their
academic needs.
Mr. Rowan is a native of southern New Jersey. He graduated from Gateway Regional High School
in 1994 and currently resides in Blackwood, NJ with his wife and two daughters.
