GLORY to GOD in the highest What we say now . . . Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. The NEW words . . . Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. The night Jesus was born, shepherds who were watching their flocks, saw angels, and the angels were singing. The words they sang were “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth, peace to men of good will.” Catholics have been using the angel’s words, at least since the middle of the fourth century (and that’s over 1600 years) in a hymn that is called the Gloria. We sing or say it at the beginning of Mass most Sundays of the year. Gloria is the Latin word for glory. We cannot see God, but sometimes God lets us see His glory. God’s glory is God showing Himself to us in the things He has made or in what He has done for us. When we see great mountain ranges, or huge waves rolling onto the beach, we think about how big God is, how awesome and how powerful. Seeing a garden full of delicate flowers, or fireflies flashing their lights on a summer night, reminds us that God takes care of even the littlest things He has made. When we spend time with the people we love, we can feel God loving us through them. When what we see makes us think about how great, caring and full of love God is, we are seeing His glory. The Bible says that we see the glory of God best in Jesus (2 Corinthians 4:6). Jesus is God’s Son in a totally unique way. Because He died for our sins and rose again, the Holy Spirit can now live in us. With the help of the Holy Spirit we can be kinder to others and more courageous in doing what is right. The Gloria praises God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. It praises the Father for what He has made, the Son because He took away our sins, and the Holy Spirit for helping us show other people what God is like by the way we live. Activities: 1. Make a Stand-up Angel (directions follow). 2. Solve The Gloria Puzzle.
