Held at the Meydan Gallery in Dubai on 3 June, the Global RLI Awards 2015, in association with Marina Home, took

the highly regarded event to a whole new level of glamour and excitement. What better venue for the world’s most sought-after awards than Dubai, one of the most dynamic, energetic and exciting locations in the world?

The night was a fitting tribute to the very best of the best, the innovators and those that dare to push the boundaries; it rewards those dynamic projects and concepts that excite the senses with stunning architecture, exemplary customer service, products that ‘wow’ and that aren’t afraid to take risks, refusing to settle for anything but the very best.

RLI Publisher Jayne Rafter commented that: “There will always be challenges to face and overcome. This is an industry that excels

in meeting such challenges head on with innovative thinking and a positive, world-beating attitude. One thing that has stood out during my extensive travels over the past year is that, for a company with the right attitude, the world is full of opportunities for continued growth and success.”

The event was held in conjunction with RLI the Connect Deal-Making Forum, held at the Meydan Racecourse on 1-2 June, the thinking behind which is simple… face-time with key global retail and leisure decision makers and getting those deals done!

Before guests were invited into the main Gallery for dinner, they were treated to a Champagne Reception, allowing them to network and greet industry friends, accompanied by the beautiful sounds of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, presented by

Guests browsed the truly unique home furnishings of Headline Sponsor Marina Home in a dedicated showcase area, where there was an opportunity for guests to have their photograph taken behind a Marina Home picture frame. Photo opportunities are always a key theme at the Global RLI Awards Gala Evening and once again category sponsor MK Illumination wowed all with a fabulously decorated chair, a true piece of art, and guests were photographed sitting in a variety of poses! MK also supplied a number of other select artistic installations, wonderfully lit to spectacular effect.

Supporting partner CELS added the finishing touches to our fashion gallery with an incredible display of bespoke shoes, shipped specially to the event from a museum in Italy.

During the dinner itself, guests were treated to entertainment in the form of a compilation of musicals from previous RLI Awards shows, an exquisite four-course meal and, of course, the awards ceremony itself!

With competition fierce between nominations in the 17 categories, and points between each nomination close in many cases, the Judging Panel also decided to present Highly Commended Awards in eight categories.

As has been the case in recent years, the

independent Judging Panel, comprising of highly respected leaders from a broad spectrum of profession and all corners of the world, faced the incredibly daunting task of whittling a record number of entries down to a shortlist for each category. RLI would like to once again thank all of our judges for their diligence and hard work.

The scheme, designed by Benoy for the Lan Kwai Fong Group, uniquely blends art, culture, F&B, retail and tourism together to create a dynamic entertainment landmark.

PLACE VENDôME, LUSAIL CITY, QATAR Place Vendôme is an upcoming QR5bn mixed-use development underway in Qatar’s emerging Lusail City. United Developers envisions Place Vendôme as a groundbreaking example of the entrepreneurship, vision and energy of Qatari commitment to the nation’s development. The 800,000sq m development will host two five-star luxury hotels, apartments, a mall featuring up to 400 retail outlets and a central entertainment component.

This exciting, luxury, retail-led development includes beautiful landscaped lakes, expansive recreation spaces, high-end entertainment and fine dining. The scheme enables every façade to be designed as an individual building, reflective of the retailers. As a result, this project has established a persona of having grown organically over time while retaining a distinctly modern feel.

LES TERRASSES DU PORT, MARSEILLE, FRANCE Opened in May 2014, the 61,000sq m Les Terrasses du Port is Marseille’s newest shopping centre. It is ideally located in the heart of the Euroméditerranée project, the biggest city centre urban regeneration programme in Europe. Featuring 190 stores and restaurants, Hammerson’s Les Terrasses du Port offers visitors an elegant interior design, a qualitative exterior architecture and an astounding view over the Mediterranean sea and the city of Marseille.

Yas Mall is Abu Dhabi’s ultimate destination for shopping, dining and entertainment located at the heart of Yas Island, and built and operated by Aldar Properties PJSC. Immersed in natural light, spacious avenues offer three floors of international and regional retail and restaurant brands. Designed by RTKL, Yas Mall also offers a 20 screen state-of-the-art cinema and

a family entertainment zone by Fun Works, as well as a direct link to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

The recent luxury precinct renovation has repositioned the shopping centre as one of the most compelling luxury shopping destinations in Asia.

VICTORIA PLACE SHOPPING CENTRE, VICTORIA STATION, UKNetwork Rail purchased Victoria Place from William Ewart in September 2011 with the aim of improving its image, making it more attractive to shoppers and tenants, increasing the range of offer, footfall, dwell time and spend. A major refurbishment of the centre included completely updated finishes, a programme of maintenance and upgraded building systems, making the centre a valuable adjunct to the historic railway station.

Inspiration has been taken from the atmosphere of a drawing room and sophistication of a gentleman’s club optimising the heritage of an Edwardian Belle Époque building.

Founded by Gamze Cizreli, the first Big Chefs restaurant was opened in Ankara in 2007, with its red awnings, open kitchen, huge library, handmade carpets, vintage pictures and red geraniums. CLEMENTS RETAIL FOR CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN STORE, MOTCOMB STREET, LONDON, UKChristian Louboutin, together with Clements and brand environment specialist Pentagram, has designed an intimate shoe experience for one of the world’s most luxurious brands. Throughout the project, daily challenges, requests and queries were met with an open, approachable and collaborative team spirit. The luxury fashion sector demands the best level of finish, workmanship and detail, something Clements understands and always strives to achieve.

PORTVIEW FIT-OUT FOR ISSEY MIYAKE, LONDON, UKThe stunning 5,000sq ft Issey Miyake London flagship store has a frontage of 60ft and occupies a prominent position between Bond Street and Hanover Square in the centre of Mayfair. The £900k fit-out, undertaken by Portview, took 16 weeks to complete and was project managed by Leckenby Associates. All furniture, fittings and seating were designed by Yoshioka specifically for the Brook Street store.

SCHWITZKE & PARTNER FOR VIRGIN MEGASTORE, YAS MALL, ABU DHABIVirgin Megastore has been working on evolving its business format, telling a strong brand story and providing youngsters with an inspiring place to shop and meet their friends. The range of goods, the brand message and the store design were completely updated for the brand’s young target group. The design language, interpreted by Schwitzke & Partner, is urban, casual and improvised.

Set over three floors, Watches of Switzerland Regent Street houses an enviable collection of the world’s finest timepieces. Described by the press as ‘mind blowing and superlative’, this flagship showroom, undertaken by Beck Interiors, opened in time for the brand’s 90th anniversary, promises to revolutionise luxury watch retail. The striking Bronze shopfront stretching

along Regent Street affirms the presence of brand excellence.
