The expert skills of our 1,400 employees have made of Gruau a unique “multi-specialist” vehicle manufacturer and converter, which designs, produces and markets innovative, comprehensive transport and mobility solutions for light commercial vehicles.

Our group is an independent family concern that owes its long life to an industrial yet people-focused approach. Our investment in skill and talent promotion, our ability to produce from single unit to small series and our flair for innovating through proximity and specialisation have positioned us as European No. 1 converter for over ten years. The business units we recently opened in Spain, Italy, Poland, Algeria and the USA have now inspired a powerful vision: to become a world player in the sector.

As a multi-business, multi-brand, multi-site group, Gruau converts 54,000 vehicles each year at 21 industrial sites. A reference supplier for 34 car manufacturers, it offers over 20 product lines.

Representing the fifth generation, I have led the group since 1984. It is a fascinating, appealing and incredibly rewarding task, because Gruau is above all a story about people, and our devotion to our customers.

OVER 125 YEARSIN LVC CONVERSION BUSINESS

René Le Godais creates a horse-drawn carriage construction company inLaval, and hands it on to his son, René.

The small-scale manufacturer goes industrial when the army commissions 250 coaches. To make this industrialisation a success, René Gruau, his son, creates the first research department.

Patrick Gruau joins the company and contributes to Gruau’s commercial development in the eastern part of France and the Paris region.

Launch of the first corporate project with a strategicorientation focused on light commercial vehicles.

René Gruau succeeds his father, continues industrial expansion and develops the first production management system.

At 28 years old, Patrick Gruau becomes head of Gruau and introduces Total Quality management.

Gruau wins the Prix Français de la Qualité.External growth operations:Gruau Paris (1987), Ducarme (1991), Picot, Isberg becomes Gruau Le Mans, and creation of Gruau Lorraine (1998).

Introduction of the first bodywork kit distribution network.

Gruau becomes a vehicle manufacturer with a new collective urban transport solution: the Microbus.

Gruau creates Gruau Algerie (2009) and consolidates its Medical Vehicle Division with the buyout of GifaCollet.

Launch of the extended Kangoo: 53,478 vehicles are lenghened using glue assembly systems.

External growth operations: Petit, Sanicar and Labbé (2002), the first steps towards internationalisation with the creation of Gruau Polska and Gruau Iberica in 2003.

Launch of the Electric Commercial Vehicles line. Buyout of theLanery Company in 2013.

Gruau acquire of 50% of Sortimo France. It becomes Sortimo by Gruau.

External growth with Onnicar (Italy).

3 APPROACHES PROMOTING CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

An extension of the Total Quality Approach introduced in 1985, the “GEO” (Gruau Operational Excellence) approach is the driving force of Gruau’s performance.

This is a managerial concept based on a culture of continuous process improvement and the constant determination to motivate and train employees.

The Innovation approach embodies our desire to be creative, think and act differently and be trailblazers in every area: products, services, organisation, management, and so on. This voluntary, comprehensive, shared approach gives the Group a competitive edge and makes it stand out, enabling it to be a profitable market leader.

“L’Utily-Terre by Gruau” expresses our commitment to this Sustainable Development approach, which we intend to make more visible so that we can be even more efficient.

“Helping the Earth” also means being innovative: providing transport solutions while protecting the planet.

Created over 125 years ago, Gruau provides the best possible proof of this approach, through its long life and development.

Just like quality, innovation is a priority across the board for the Gruau group, in its products, services, organisation and management alike. All in all, over 120 people are dedicated to the design of innovations and their industrialisation process – nearly 10% of the group’s workforce.

> TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS

These innovations give rise to new products, new production processes and new organisation methods. In 1998, Gruau revolutionised the conversion sector with a new method, gluing on bodywork parts instead of welding them. More than 53,000 vehicles have been converted using this method.

In 2001, Gruau began to focus on electric vehicles, which led to the launch of the electric Microbus (Bluebus) in 2006, the Electron (for transporting goods in urban environments) in 2011, and the Electron II (with an electric powertrain designed by Gruau) in 2015.

These represent nearly 95% of innovations. Innovation through use is based on information that comes from users, making them active participants in innovative activities.

So these come about by listening to customers, following a method based on observation in the field through the “Live my Life” concept, and on idea modelling.

Gruau has made the fold-up crew cab using innovative kinematics, which now equips over 70,000 vehicles.

Gruau has revolutionised home delivery with the Home Delivery Solution. A three-temperature vehicle, equipped with a unique, patented interior design, facilitates delivery while respecting the cold chain. This was awarded the 2015 Innovation Award during Solutrans show.

Developing added value through use is a major priority for the group: rental service, preventive maintenance, delivery of vehicles for instant use (delivered on site, ready to drive), second-hand vehicles, etc.

With 21 specialised sites, a network of 125 distributors and various commercial and industrial partnerships, the Gruau Group provides its customers and prospects with a recognised, flexible industrial capacity enabling it to design and produce a range of vehicles from LCVs to mass-produced vehicles (at a rate of 50 per day). The group can thus convert over 54,000 vehicles each year for companies all over the world.

The Group’s expertise can accommodate small series, shored up for nearly 20 years by the major construction markets, thus offering genuine economic relevance for all customers, whether renters, key accounts or ministries, who wish to play the “Made in France” card with a manufacturer whose know-how goes back more than a century. Because the Gruau Group incorporates numerous trades and functions on secure sites, which enable it to store and protect vehicle fleets, it can offer a comprehensive service from the design stage to the distribution of products.

The Gruau Group’s specialist sales teams are organised to respond to large organisations, which include key international and national accounts, administrations and territorial authorities. But it also provides a Sales and After-Sales service with help from its distribution network.

With its direct sales force, technical platform of pre-sales consultants, its distributor network and its subsidiaries within and outside France, not to mention its partnerships and commercial agreements abroad, Gruau provides its customers and prospects with a flexible, efficient sales organisation unrivalled in the sector.

Gruau is now referenced by 34 international car brands. Gruau is also partner to car manufacturers, a guarantee of quality. Indeed partner means that Gruau meet all the stringent requirements which OEMs note with regard to quality, sales and after-sales to change vehicles or to be able to provide kits for conversions. This affects the daily way of working of Gruau and is integrated into the corporate DNA and products.

For over twenty years, the Gruau Group has distributed its products in kits and CKDs (knockdown kits) through a network of 125 Distributors and Local Contacts consisting of qualified, accredited converters established within and outside France (25 abroad).Today, as Europe’s leading distributor of LCV Kits, the Gruau Network aims to ensure top quality service to its customers by being close by and providing rapid assembly.

The René Gruau training centre is part of the Gruau service policy, and takes in not only employees from the Group but also staff from the Gruau network, customers, manufacturers’ commercial schools and teachers in the professional sector.Introduced over twenty years ago, our training department has legal accreditation. More than 1,500 hours of training are carried out each year on the conversion trade: industrial design, technology in the sector (gluing, riveting, welding, and so on). The René Gruau training centre also carries out numerous process and document audits, together with “Qualified Operator” awareness-raising sessions, and regularly checks that professional rules are applied.
