• Many jobs are low value and don’t
provide career development
• Limited awareness, coordination and
financial support at level required

Systems change from a youth’s perspective
The Global Opportunity Youth Initiative
• 10 second intros, name and organization
• Take the piece of paper at your table, flip it
over
• Consider the information at your table for you
as a youth:
- Pathway for income generation
(apprenticeship, entrepreneurship, etc)
- Type of background (high school graduate,
drop-out, farm working coming to the city)
- Type of emerging market, informal
employment, urban or per-urban setting

YOUTH’S SHOES
DON’T OVERTHINK
COMPLEXITY
Not changing the youth, but the system….
Global Opportunity Youth Initiative
Question #1: What are the specific barriers you face to sustained,
decent employment/income generation?
Question #2: How do specific systems need to change to make you
more successful? E.g. government, employers, education & training,
cultural systems
Question #3: Zoom out. How does the overall system need to change,
accelerate and better coordinate such that 1 million of your fellow
youth will be more successful? What will enable change at scale?
Question #4: Step out of character – how can YOUR organization
contribute to #3?
Report out!
