THE BLOCKCHAIN IN A SUPPLY CHAIN

The flower grower readies the product for

international shipment. Shipment information

is added to the blockchain.

As the container awaits transfer to port, officials submit

approvals electronically. Blockchain confirms the

transaction and executes a smart contract, releasing the

shipment.

Start 50% prepayment

The container is loaded onto the ship.

Location port delivery payment

All parties have end-to-end visibility of the

container’s progress through the supply

chain.

Open at final destination The container arrives at the destination port and

clears customs.

50% full payment Retailer receives the flowers on time and signs

electronically. Information is relayed back to the

blockchain.

A blockchain is a distributed digital ledger. The ledger records transactions in a certain series of blocks.

As it is decentralised, it doesn't depend on any single entity (like a bank) for safekeeping.

A smart contract is a computer software program that uses

blockchain to carry out conditions of the contract.
