Global Management of Social Issues (GMSI)

• Unique BA in NL

• Integrated social science approach rooted in SOC, OS, HRS

• To study so-called Wicked Problems

• Complex societal (planning) problems

• Poverty, ethnic diversity, climate change, health care, drug trafficking, glass ceiling women, sustainability

• That have multiple, interrelated, often global causes

• Are related to other complex problems

• That are not easy to solve

• And ask for coordinated actions from a range of (international) stakeholders

Additional Design Principles

• The program is a track in the BA OS

• It gives a thorough introduction to the basics in the social sciences

and methods as any TSB social science program

• Each bachelor year has a specific function:

• Year 1 = Introduction

• Year 2 = Deepening of knowledge

• Year 3 = Integration and understanding

• Explicit attention is given to developing professional skills

• Mobility window (in Block 1 and 2, third BA year)

• The program offers minors for specialization purposes

• an interest in (inter)national social issues and organizational responses to manage these issues;

• the ambition and the desire for an intellectual challenge and personal development (including obtaining intercultural skills);

• strong analytical abilities;

• an interest in critical and analytical thinking;

• an international mindset and the ability to thrive in a multicultural classroom;

• respect for and an interest in other cultures;

• a high level of intrinsic motivation and independence;

• an interest in small-scale, interactive lectures and practical sessions;

• and sufficient knowledge of English

Life after the Bachelor

Human Resource Studies
