The child soldiers are forced to fight for their country it is

not optional for them. Child soldiers are usually at least 11

years old before starting the duties as a soldier. Child

soldiers are used for fighting, cooking, spying, and sexual

reasons. The child soldiers are not able to get the propereducation because of how young they are when they are

pulled away from home. Child soldiers are both females and

    males.

    What is the problem?

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    11/55

This problem is serious because their whole life they have

been surrounded by death. It is hard for the children to get

back in school because they are so traumatized by all the

death they have seen in their life. Most children suffer from

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after coming back from war. This is also because they have not been around normal

people it is hard from them to be normal.

    Why is it serious?

In certain countries such as Uganda have child soldiers

because the government enforces to have children in the

army. They would like to have them between the ages in

between 7 18. Most kids in this country join without force

between 14 18 years of age. Approximately 250,000,000kids have been forced into the army under the age of 18 in

this country. Recruiting in this country approximately starts

    at 10 years of age.

    What causes the problem?

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    13/55

The problem affects young children between the ages of

10 and 18. These children have been chosen or already

apart of the armed force. The young children can be

used for combat, spies, and cooks. The children are

assigned too many combat tasks including laying

explosives and working as decoys. Sometimes the

children come out of combat but those chances are very

    rare.

    Who does the

    problem affect?

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    14/55

There are many ways to help child soldiers return home from

the comfort of your own home. There are non-profit

organizations such as mission of Child Soldier Relief where

you can help child soldier get there proper education. By

donating money to certain foundations such as... AudreyHepburn Childrens Fund you may give child soldiers a chance

to go back to their original homes. You can also right letters to

the U.N. (united nations) stating why you think its wrong and

what you want done about it.

What can you do from home?

hunger and poverty. The government is helping

create more jobs so people can afford their house

and food. They are also accepting food stamps in

selected supermarkets for people who need help.Welfare is another way countries are trying to help

people maintain their homes and families together.

Another way that is helping end this issue is that

now many organizations are helping homeless

people. For example shelters give them a

temporary home and other organizations providefood or help people find jobs.

WHY IS WORLD POVERTY ANDHUNGER SERIOUS?

World hunger Is a really big problem in the world. Not

only in Africa are a lot people dying of hunger because

they cant afford to buy any food. Also it is important theyare dying because many people cant afford a house to

live or clothes so they get really serious diseases.

    HUNGER

    WHAT CAUSES THE

    PROBLEM?

Since the economy has had a sudden drop

many people have lost their jobs due to

companies shutting down. Also many companies

are having trouble paying their employees. This

leads to them not being able to pay for a decent

home, for clothes, or just about anything.

Poverty then leads to hunger. Not having

enough money to buy food makes families

struggle to survive with hunger and starvation.

y Domestic violence is imposing your will on others inyour household or immediate family.

y Physical violence is when a single being in a house

hold (typically the father) tangibly causes injury tosomebody else in the family (usually the child or thewife)

y Mental Abuse when one participant of the

household emotionally blurs another. It could bename-calling, life threats, or projections of tension andwrath.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    33/55

y While male beating happens, about 95 to 99 percent of the sufferers of domestic violenceare women. Because men are stronger than most women, they can impose a greater dealof harm. Until fairly recently, the law has continually been on their side.

y Old English law allowed husbands as head of the family to "discipline" their wives withcanes no broader than their thumbs (the Rule of Thumb). While decrees and religiousprinciples have changed, old outlooks and falsies remain. More than half the womenslain in Canada are killed by their husbands, or boyfriends.

y Kids frequently suffer in the cross fire of vehemence amongst their parents. A chief studyof more than 900 children at battered womens lodgings found that nearby to 70 percentof the children were victims of physical abuse or neglect.

y The men most often took out their anger on the children. In around one quarter of thecases both parents maltreated the children. Only in rare instances did the mom unaidedabuse the children.

y One study declares that "wife beating consequences in more damages that requiremedical handling than rape, car accidents, and muggings combined. Each year over 1,000women are killed by their husbands. Wife abuse can take numerous forms. Physicalabuse (assault, including rape) is palpable. Countless women also agonize over emotionaland mental abuse that is just as disturbing and chilling. Abuse can originate in anyhousehold, any culture or age group.

    34/55

y Domestic abuse is a very serious thing that affectseveryone involved. It cannot only affect the people beingabused, but, it can also affect neighbors, friends, andrelatives of the abuser and the abused.

y During the course of the physical violence, a lot of noise ismade and neighbors will most likely call the police andthey will charge you a large fine or worse (jail time).

y Also, if the violence gets too out of hand the abuser can

easily kill or seriously injure the victim.y Also, if the stress of the situation becomes to much for the

abused victim they can take their life or their abuser's life.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    35/55

y Domestic violence is a terrible thing because of the highchance of a person being seriously injured or killed.

y A person could not only kill their abuser but killthemselves.

y Also, it is becoming a serious epidemic. 1 out of 3 women isabused in her life time whether it by mental or physical, bya parent or a spouse.

y That means that millions of women around the world areabused each day and dont speak out

y Sri law is up held in most modern day, Asian, middleeastern, and African countries. It allows women to betreated was property and slaughtered for Misbehaving

    36/55

y Battered womens shelters and domestic violencecounseling are there to help her.

y There are fines for first and second time offenders.

y On your third try you go to jail.y You can go into the protection program.

y If you call 911 you can register a safe house for you andyour children

Recognize and inform people on the red flags:

y The person may feel afraid to break up with them.

    y They are tied down

y They are afraid to make decisions or bring up certain subjects so that the otherperson wont get mad.

    y

They may cry a lot, being depressed or unhappy.y They may worry and obsess about how to please the partner to keep them

    happy.

y You see their physical or emotional state getting worse over time.

y Encourage your neighborhood watch or block association to become asconcerned with watching out for domestic violence.

y Help others become informed by inviting public speakers

y Support domestic violence counseling and shelter programs likeWomen inDistress

y If you know someone who is being abused tell them to call the NationalDomestic Violence Hotline, 1-800-799- SAFE

    A Description of the Problem

Malaria is a parasitic disease that makes you

have high fevers, shaking chills, flu-like

    symptoms, and anemia.

Anemia is a condition where the body does

not have enough red blood cells to sustain

    itself.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    41/55

    What Causes the Problem?

Malaria is caused by a bite from an infectedAnopheles mosquito.

Malaria can be passed between humans by a

    parasite.

The parasites make their way to the liver, where they mature and then release the

merozoites. Then they enter the bloodstream and infect

    the red blood cells.

    Who does it affect?

It mostly affects kids in southeast Africa.

It specially affects people in countries like

Angola, South Africa, and other southern

    countries.

    Worldwide, 300-500 million people are

    infected with this deadly disease.

2 million people die each year.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    43/55

    Why is it serious?

It is one of the most wide-spread diseases in

    the world.

It is also in the U.S. and South America not

    only in Africa.

It mostly kills kids between the ages of 4 and

    16.

It is caused by mosquitos that have the

    disease.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    44/55

What efforts are in place to solve the

    issue?

One of the best items right now to stop Malariaare universal bed nets. Universal bed nets aregood because they cover the whole bed whenyou are sleeping. The net itself has a type of

medicine on it that will either keep the mosquitosaway or kill them if they get on it. When you areoutside walking around one of the goodmedicines are mosquito repellent cream, and

what it is , it is like off, except more strong so theywould not get near so those are two protectiveitems, for preventing malaria.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    45/55

    Suggestions.

To stop Malaria from home, you can try to go

to websites that offer you to do things that

would provide money, to the countries with

malaria to stop the disease. You can send food

to the countries, and give the people energy

to provide help for themselves to. You can

play games related to malaria that every timeyou get an answer right more money goes to

    the state

The real problem about girls missing school isthat they will not get a good education. Every

day they miss, they are missing an importantlesson that might help in life. They dont get tohave the experience of being in school andmaking friends. Without school there will be no

good jobs and will probably not have a goodfuture. If these girls had the choice to go toschool and learn, even though it might not befun to us, they will always choose to go.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    49/55

This problem is mainly caused by nothaving the right supplies for school. Theysay in Afghanistan that girls are of lesservalue then a donkey. This is not true. Theydo not have pencils books or may noteven have clothes. They do not respect girlenough but in the United States they do.Hopefully one day the girls will have achance to go to school like all of the girls inthe US.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    50/55

Sixty million girls lack schooling. Only 14% of

Afghan women can actually read and

write. There is virtually no way to attendschool. This problem affects most girls in

    different countries.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    51/55

It is serious because the girls need

education to grow mentally and socially. It

is also needed to become successful insociety. If you dont have education you

could never become a leader or anything

in power. You would just be stuck as being

a mother, or a daughter. It is helpful allaround from math to learning how to

    communicate.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    52/55

There are different websites that help you

donate money to the organizations. There

are also organizations that deal withvolunteering. Also, popular companies

have donation boxes to donate different

supplies and things like that. Also, schools

have different fundraisers like car washesand bake sales. There are many other

efforts, but these are the main ones.

  • 8/6/2019 Global Issues Power Point

    53/55

In order to help Afghan girls to learn, you candonate money to help buy supplies to buildschools and to provide school supplies. You

can donate unused school supplies, textbooks, chalkboards to write on, paper, and volunteers to help build schools. You canalso volunteer to help teach for 1 year. You

can also help build schools and libraries. If yousend any of these items, or volunteer, you canhelp them get a good education andsucceed in life.
