INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS at Swinburne

Swinburne International Programs arrange tailored short-term programs for students, government bodies and professional groups.

Available all year round, our bespoke programs can combine focused lessons with cultural experiences, professional development training, teacher training, academic content, or customised English classes to suit your subject area, such as Teaching English as a Foreign Language or English for Business.

Design at Swinburne

Swinburne’s art & design courses invite you to harness your imagination and participate in the innovative design thinking that will define the 21st century. We provide the knowledge you need to combine creativity with business sense and insight. We also partner with industry to give you hands-on skills in your study area. You may choose to apply your learning to advertising, places and spaces, products and more.

We provide an understanding of the theory and practices for you to broaden your knowledge in a range of art and design methods. This includes painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, video and digital imaging, often incorporating other media and new technologies.

This program consists of a series of design activities suitable for those who are studying in Industrial Design and Interior Architecture Design. Participating students will learn about design process to solve a problem and learn various design skills to apply when solving the problem. Designing future public space as their main project, students will complete an online portfolio with the 1/10 scale model outcome as well as have opportunity to present their final design to industry relevant professionals for evaluation. There will be other design challenge projects along the way which students can also include in their online portfolio. The Swinburne International team will have a dedicated staff member to look after your students for the duration of the program. Sample timetable*: Week 1-Week 3

Excursions and field trips

We can help organise cultural, fun and educational excursions that will introduce the group to some of the best tourist destinations and attractions Melbourne and Victoria has to offer. The field trips offered include Yarra Valley, Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island, National Gallery of Victoria, Torquay Surf Trip, Mornington Peninsula Hot Springs and many more.

ACCOMMODATION

Homestay Homestay accommodation allows students to live with an Australian resident or family. Homestay is a great way to develop English and experience the Australian lifestyle. Students are provided with a clean furnished room and receive two meals on weekdays and three meals on weekends. Homestay placements are organised by the Australian Homestay Network (AHN).

On-campus apartments

On-campus accommodation options are also available, such as private studio apartments or shared apartments.

Each apartment is fully furnished and secure with separate private, single, lockable bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, and a modern kitchen with an open plan living / dining area.

Wi-Fi

Swinburne’s campus and accommodation includes free Wi-Fi through a secure wireless network called EduRoam. This will be arranged for the students upon arrival.

Safety

Swinburne provides a safe work and learning environment for all our students, staff and visitors. Our campuses offer security services, including CCTV and security officers on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our campus has a night-bus and student safety escort service which can be utilised for safe transport around the campus in the evenings.

Transportation

Swinburne provides an optional transport service from the airport to accommodation addresses. Airport transfers can be arranged by Swinburne International staff to the group for an additional cost. Please see optional extras section. Public transportation may be required for travel to off-campus excursions. Swinburne University has a train station in the middle of campus, which connects to Melbourne’s excellent public transport network through the MYKI ticketing system.

Class Rooms

Classes will be held in rooms adequate for the number of students. Facilities in all classrooms include a projector and whiteboard. Specific classrooms will be arranged dependant on final numbers of students. There are rooms that can cater for as low as 10 students to lecture theatres for over 400 students.

§ Staff and students must check and apply for an appropriate visa from the

Department of Home Affairs if required. Travel & Health Insurance is recommended to cover the duration of the stay.

Fee payment

§ Applications are required 10 weeks before arrival. § Acceptance forms and full payment are required 6 weeks before arrival.

Cancellations § Cancellations 6 weeks or more before the start of the program are entitled to a

full refund, less $500 processing fee. § Cancellations received less than 6 weeks before the start of the program will

not be eligible for any refund.
