    A recent study identified that 400 companies lost over 12,000 customerrecords, with an average cost of $214 per record the amount of losses couldexceed $2.5 Million.A recent event where Russian hackers hold a medical centre afterencrypting thousands of patient health records.

    Social media is becoming an integral part of everyones daily life.

    Almost every business now has a social media presence and theones that dont plan to have one this year. These social presencescreate a number of emerging risks.

    The main risk is reputation, your social presence represents yourbusiness to the world, and misuse can lead to serious damage the

    the company reputation.A recent event of Whitehaven Coal where a fraudulent press releasewas issued, caused a 6 per cent drop in shares decreasing $300million dollars from the value of the company.

    Extreme Weather/ Flooding/Fire

    The sheer severity and devastation caused byrecent fires/storms/floods around the worldhave caught many of businesses of guard.Whatever the cause of this risk it is clear thatextreme weather events are becoming morecommon. And they are striking in lesscommon places. Few businesses can afford

    to completely ignore the potential for naturaldisaster.

    Recent event of Australian Bureau ofMeteorology temperature was capped at 50Degrees and 2 new colours have been added

    deep purple and pink to 54 Degrees.

    It has taken months to get phone and internetservices to our office that impacted theoperation severly.

    Economic Stability/Customer/Supplier Businesses need to review the customer and supplier

    base and determine the risk to the business from themarket. Cost cutting will be a factor this year and willhave an impact on margins and levels of efficiency.Business owners need to consider their financialposition and make sure they are prepared if the worstdoes happen.

    A recent event where a company uses a large amountof steel for the mining industry used one steelsupplier, as a result the company went into liquidationand the steel needed to be purchased from anothersupplier at a higher rate.
