INTRODUCTION Many in HR proclaim a desire to be more
strategic, yet most doom themselves by not acting any differently than everyone else.
A clear indication of this can be seen in the speed by which documented best practices are mimicked and improved.
Instead of systematizing an effort to consistently follow the leader and mimic the soon-to-be-obsolete practices of others, one must adopt a proactive approach, in which you develop your own "next generation" of best practices.
Many world class organizations have created a niche for themselves by following HR practices that act as benchmarks for other companies within the same or other industries.

"Benchmarks" in HR are subjective and transitory. What is best for one company may not be best for another.
"Benchmarks" are not a set of discrete actions but rather a cohesive and holistic approach to organizational management.
Best Practices are initiatives taken by HR to: -
Not only satisfy but delight Create a feel good factor Give high visibility and focused
impact Be unique and relevant Gel with organization culture Provide fresh / creative way to
accomplish a task

“WORLD-CLASS HR ORGANIZATIONS: SPEND 13% LESS; OPERATE WITH 15% FEWER STAFF”
World-class companies now spend $1,614 per employee on HR, 13% less than typical companies, which spend $1,864, according to 2006 Enterprise Book of Numbers research from The Hackett Group.
World-class HR organizations also operate with 15% fewer staff, with 11.5 FTEs per 1000 employees versus 13.5 for typical companies.
