GAAIN’s data partners are contributing to an innovative effort aimed at transforming Alzheimer’s disease research. Benefits of GAAIN data partnership include:
The overall success of GAAIN depends upon the ongoing participation of its data partners.

GAAIN Architecture
GAAIN is uniquely designed to address the data ownership concerns of its data partners.
Data access permissions remain exclusively with each data partner.
Graphical search results offer researchers insight into the data without granting direct access to linked data sets.
Data is never copied to GAAIN server disks, unless requested by the data partner though data may be cached in computer memory to optimize performance.
Each data partner installs a Data Partner Client (DPC) at their institution that remains completely under their control. Additionally, each DPC has the following:
An on/off switch to disconnect from GAAIN at any time for any reason
A lightweight Java executable that is easy to install
No direct interaction with production system databases
Secure communication with GAAIN servers using HTTPS
Commonly Asked Questions
Are data partners required to have data for every attribute supported in GAAIN?
No, data partners are not required to have data for every attribute nor every research subject to participate in GAAIN.
We want to become a data partner, but we don’t have the infrastructure to support it. What do we do?
The Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (LONI) will be happy to host your data on our servers. You will still retain control on how it is used in GAAIN.
Our research institute has valuable resources other than data. How can we participate in GAAIN?
You can join as a GAAIN Affiliate. Affiliates are organizations that provide data standards and computer infrastructure that are used by GAAIN’s data partners.
Who can use GAAIN?
Anyone can access the GAAIN Scoreboard and only a free user account is required to use the GAAIN Interrogator.
