From the þrst GLI.TC/H in 2010 on, we consciously adopted a free and open DIT ethic. There are no

for. Other elements that contribute to openness are: open call for work, collaborative docs for

Our daily lives are controlled by (invisible) technologies and protocols, norms and conventions. Some people are afraid of

while others don’t normally reflect or realize their and / or authoritative rulings.

However, the moment a glitch break from an expected flow or form) takes place, the

its transparency and its ever present rules become visible.

Technically, a glitch is best understood as an unexpected, unwanted consequence of an interruption within technology.

Missing video streams and skipping discs are normal, yet generally

occurrences.

But a glitch can also bring a positive potential: to generate the constructedness of a digital routine. A glitch can

window into technology, to uncover and teach us about a is in control.

GLI.TC/H was a simple idea that was hatched upon the notion of kindred spirits gathering together and engaging/chatting/debating the issues/theories/concerns of failure, systems, art, and glitches. Out of that simple idea, grew a multi-faceted happening encompassing glitch art exhibitions, video screenings, panel discussions, realtime audio/video performances, hacking workshops, publications, and ongoing online components.

These events have helped to gather, connect, expose and cultivate an extremely diverse, amazingly deep, somewhat quirky community

made up from artists, educators, tinkerers, hackers and a public existing around and beyond this field that celebrates and investigates

technological mishaps, digital hiccups, and failure.

Throughout the last three years, GLI.TC/H has become a globally recognized context/platform for creative folks to share tools, skills, and ideas concerning breaks in technology: what has come to be known as the genre ‘glitch art.

GLI.TC/H has never been and will never be just a static, white or black boxed exhibition space. Organizationally GLI.TC/H is best described as a kind of demo-party/glitch-school, directly focused on the conversation. In doing so, GLI.TC/H strives to contribute and build a critical community not only by being a context but also a framework for knowledge generation and distribution.

reative community building (DIT = Do It Together), poking and pushing. The GLI.TC/H happenings aim to bring like-error-minded bug collectors together IRL, to engage/chat/debate, share work/ideas/concerns, foster collaborations and raise the bar on quality of work/thought/writing && endeavors within the glitch art communities.

From the þrst GLI.TC/H in 2010 on, we consciously adopted a free and open DIT ethic. There are no submission fees and there are no ticket sales. We believe that (exorbitant) entrance fees and exclusive passes can often create obstacles against the kind of horizontal participation we aim for. !!""▄!"#$%&'("%)**)!++!,-..!/01!23.0!2-4/056/7580

From the first GLI.TC/H in 2010 on, GLI.TC/H consciously adopted a free and open DIT ethic. GLI.TC/H has never asked for submission fees and there have never been any ticket sales; exorbitant entrance fees and exclusive passes can often create obstacles that work against the kind of horizontal participation GLI.TC/H aims for. At GLI.TC/H everybody is exe.clusive!Elements that in the past contributed to openness are: open calls for work, collaborative docs for publication, coordinated debates, an ongoing active online research wiki and workshops that ranged from creative coding to hardware hacking.

While the GLI.TC/H 2112.exe ideals are, as always, based on the free and open sharing of inspirations && theoretical and technological knowledge, GLI.TC/H 2112 focus' has shifted more towards creative community building (DIT - Do It Together), poking and pushing, which is echoed in the GLI.TC/H outcomes:

≈ the 2112 GLI.TC/H website design is an open, ongoing “style this site!”-event, which so far has lead to over 50 website designs.

≈ in September, GLI.TC/H started the vo-Tee T-shirt upload / rating event, from which 7 final designs were crowd voted and now function as GLI.TC/H 2112 [kickstarter] $waG

≈ the gli.tc/h/wiki was resurrected / debotted and is again used as an open collection of information on the evolving GlitchArt scenes

≈ the GLI.TC/H 0p3nr3p0.net is an open/public repository of glitch art work and was, leading up to GLI.TC/H 2112 specifically used as an open port for anyone, anywhere to submit glitch art work via the remote submission system.

≈ as for GLI.TC/H 2112 evening performances, Re/Funct had 21 active participants, while the N0_Media and RoundRobin supported another 22 performances by over 30 participants. The event "everybody_VJ" == no_limit.

≈ most of GLI.TC/H 2112 is streamed and archived on USTREAM. Photo documentation is growing on Flickr.

≈ the GLI.TC/H 2112 proceedings will be published in the READ[ERROR].2112, for which we are now collecting texts.

Besides this, the GLI.TC/H/bots believe that while traditional education is mostly about learning how to find answers (querying), a big omission in knowledge generation is the potential of "creative problem creation". While everybody (can learn/google how to) use Google and find a new hypothesis, GLI.TC/H wants to push the act of creative questioning; it sets out to research the semantics and processes in querying and (new) Query Languages. GLI.TC/H isn't an event that just farms "new" Queries, instead GLI.TC/H welcomes and researches (changes in) Query / Languages and processes. This means that while GLI.TC/H continues to include performances and debates as it has in the past, these aspects of the conference/festival/gathering had to be build within a new, open structure that allows for freedom of new (semantics for) questioning. GLI.TC/H 2112.exe echoed this ethos through its "threaded" framework:

≈ As learning, poking and pushing become central ideals of GLI.TC/H 2112.exe, the GLI.TC/H events are frameworked around 6 relevant "threads" (glitch themes or genealogies), distilled from an open call: [G]lossary, glitchxxx cultures, Hardware hacking and recycling strategies, ouLANGltchpo, Supraconductor, DNMw3rkstati0n.

≈ Every thread has its own workinggroup at working.gli.tc/h, which functions as a participatory debate hub and collaborative incubator for deep glitch_flows (+related projects). At this moment, the Working Groups have had 500 individual contributions in the in the form of forum posts and 2 spin-off threats (no_media and unity_glitched_realities)

≈ Finally over 100 participants attended the GLI.TC/H 2112 daytime threads
