Exhibit Opening Reception: Thursday, November 1 at 7 pm

Winning photos exhibited at the Greece Public Library

in November and December 2018. Calendars featuring

winning photos will be available in limited quantities at

the reception for winners, and to the public on 12/1/18.

Photo Contest RulesPhoto Contest Rules

You must be a resident of Monroe County to enter aged 13 and older.

Submitted photographs must be taken within the geographic boundaries of the Town of Greece.

Entries must be submitted in JPG format through the library’s website starting at 9 am on August 1, 2018. Prints will not be accepted. Entries must be in landscape orientation; portrait and square

entries will not be considered. Maximum file size of 5 MB accepted. A larger file may be requested of winners for printing images.

Each photographer may submit no more than 3 photographs for consideration.

A photo may not have any text or graphics superimposed onto the photo surface. (i.e. no name or logo is to be on photograph)

Photographer is responsible for obtaining permissions if his/her photograph includes an identifiable individual.

Judges are not eligible to enter.

Greece Public Library and the Town of Greece reserve the non-exclusive right to use the photographs at their discretion.

Winning photographs & calendars will be unveiled at the Greece Public Library, 2 Vince Tofany Blvd., on Thursday, November 1 at 7 pm during the Exhibit Opening Reception. Friends and family are welcome to attend!

Library Exhibition Library Exhibition

November 1—December 31, 2018

Winning photographs will be printed, framed and displayed at the Greece Public Library following the Exhibit Opening Reception.

The exhibition is free and open to the public during library hours.

The Town of Greece and the Greece Public Library are not responsible for damage or loss that may occur during the exhibition.

Winners may pick up their framed photographs to keep after the exhibit closes on December 31, 2018. Photos must be picked up by owner no later than Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Greece Public Library.

Awards and Judging Awards and Judging

Judges will choose a grand prize award in two age groups:

Youth (ages 13-17) Adult (age 18+) Supervisor Reilich will choose a “Supervisor’s Favorite” in

each of the two age groups.

Judges will choose one award winner for each of the following categories (youth will compete with adults):

Greece is a Winter Wonderland Greece Community Happenings Autumn Beauty of Greece On the Water in Greece Springtime in Greece Unique Architecture of Greece The public will have an opportunity to vote online for a

“People’s Choice” award in each of the two age categories between September 9-15, 2018.

All winning images will appear in the “Glimpses of Greece”

annual calendar. Each winner will receive 3 copies of the calendar along with their framed photo.

Judges for the contest will be:

Robert Bilsky, photographer Jim Montanus, photographer Dick Bennett, photographer Decisions of our judges are final.

Winners will be notified via email and announced on Monday, September 24, 2018. All participants will be notified of the winners that week.

Phone/Tablet Photography Tuesday, June 12 at 6:30-8:30 pm For adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration required. Mobile photography has changed the way we take photos and share them with the world. Join Michelle Macirella from Luminaria Photography and discover techniques to help you take better photos with your mobile device. Michelle will go over some useful photography basics and teach essential mobile photography tips for capturing and editing photos with your phone or tablet. Photography Basics of Light and Composition Wednesday, June 13 at 6:30—8 pm For adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration required. Learn how to improve your photography and get ready for our 2018 Glimpses of Greece Photography Contest. Dick Bennett, a partner at the Image City Photography Gallery in Rochester, will teach you how to avoid common mistakes and take better pictures. He'll discuss the basics of light, composition, and the technical aspects of your camera, and give you tips for better photography with your cell phone! How to Photograph Landscapes Monday, June 25 at 6:30—8 pm For adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration required. This workshop will teach you how to capture the beauty of the world around you. Topics include what types of gear to use in every situation, how to work with natural light, and what times of the day make for the most compelling images. Instructor Robert Bilsky will explain the nuances of composition, exposure, and framing and show you examples so you can take better landscape photographs.

Essential Photoshop Techniques Monday, July 16 at 6:30—8 pm For adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration required. In this course, you'll learn fundamental photo editing techniques in Photoshop to bring out the best in your photos. You'll learn about cropping and straightening a photo, improving its lighting and color, removing unwanted content, adding special effects, sharpening, and saving. Instructor Robert Bilsky will demonstrate these techniques by editing some of his own photos. This is an intermediate course for people familiar with basic editing techniques and digital photography.

Photography Workshops

2018

Advanced Photo Techniques Tuesday, July 17 and July 24 at 6:30 –8:30 pm (must attend both) For adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration required. Instructor Chris Reddy will teach you how to take better photographs using more advanced techniques on your DSLR camera. This hands-on class will explore the creation of stunning photographs using image stacking (macro and large depth of field), photo-stitching (panoramas) and macro photography. Landscape, low-light and time-lapse photography will be explored. Bring your DSLR and the camera manual to class. This class is part of a series, and participants must be available for both sessions. The class is intended more intermediate photographers, with a solid grasp of basic DSLR functions.

Adobe Lightroom Development Module Thursday, July 26 at 6:30—8 pm For adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration required. Turning good photos into great photos is the work of the Develop Module in Lightroom. In this session, learn how to make your images great. Taught by George Wallace, photographer and partner of Gallery 96 in Pittsford.

Advanced Photoshop Techniques Monday, August 6 at 6:30 –8 pm For adults and teens ages 13 and up. Registration required. Layers and masks are the heart of Photoshop, and enable you to take your photos to the next level. Learn to use these more advanced applications of Photoshop to improve your images. Instructor Robert Bilsky will demonstrate these techniques by editing some of his own photos. This course is designed for those already familiar with the basics editing applications of Photoshop.
