ABOUT TEVT IN MALAYSIA

Technical & Vocational Education & Training (TVET) in Malaysia continues to play an important role in providing highly skilled labour to ful� l the needs of industry. In the context of rapidly changing global economic scenario, the development of knowledge and skills is critical in maintaining the competitiveness of various industries and sustaining the growth of a country as a whole.

To ensure the continued development of a skilled and knowledgeable workforce, the SkillsMalaysia INVITE programme was designed based on the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS). NOSS is a speci� cation of the competencies expected of a Skilled Worker who is gainfully employed in Malaysia for an occupational area & level & pathway to achieve the competencies.

SKILLSMALAYSIA INVITE (SMI) IS THE INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING (TVET) PROGRAMS IN MALAYSIA FOR “MAINSTREAMING VOCATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING”.

TVET TRAINING APPROACH

i. Competency Based Training (CBT)

TVET in Malaysia is a Competency Based Training (CBT) which is an approach to vocational training that emphasises on what a person can actually do in the workplace as a result of education & training. The criteria used in the evalution of competencies are clearly stated & given in advance.

ii. Dual Training System(Apprenticeship Program)

The apprenticeship program aims to expose apprentices to actual situations in the industry. Apart from technical competencies, the NDTS also emphasizes human & social competencies such as team work, self monitoring, shouldering common responsibilities & the like. Approximately 70%-80% of the training is done in the industry, while the remaining 20%-30% is carried out in training instituitions, utilizing curriculum develope by the National Occupational Core Curriculum (NOCC)

ii. Lifelong Learning - Accreditation Prior Achievement (APA)

Recognition of Prior Achievement (APA) or formely known as the Accreditation of Prior Achievement is a method to give recognition to any individual who can demonstrate skills outlined in the National Occupational Skills Standards (NOSS) based on prior experience & achievements.

ANOTHER ATTRACTION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS TO STUDY IN MALAYSIA IS THE RELATIVELY COST OF LIVING. THE TOTAL COST OF EXPENDITURE FOR ACCOMMODATION, EITHER ON CAMPUS OR OFF-CAMPUS, IS REASONABLE AND WITHIN MANY BUDGETS. and training provider through

(EMGS) offi cer at meet

skillsmalaysia INVITE website (www.

skillsmalaysia.gov.my/INVITE).

ii. Applicants should submit complete

form together with supporting

documents to the acquired

accredited training centres via mail

or email. Successful applicants will be

issued a Visa with reference (VDR) by

immigration department of Malaysia

through their respective accredited

centres.

iii. Student should inform their

respective accredited training centre

on the details of their travel itinerary

and greet counter upon arrival for

documents checking. Then, student

will be led to immigration check point

for entry clearance.

PRE-ARRIVAL

by the representative of their

accredited training centre

for further assistance and

enrollment.

i. Within 7 days, student

APPLICATION PROCEDURES FOR

STUDENT PASS

All application for student passes by international

students are done through Malaysia education

institutions. The processing, approval and issuance

of student passes and visas is carried out by the

immigration Department in Malaysia, except from

the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Students

from the PRC have to get their visas from Embassy

of Malaysia or the council of Malaysia in the PRC.

FAMILY MEMBERS ARE NOT

ALLOWED TO ACCOMPANY

Family members of students will not be to

accompany students to stay in Malaysia for the

entire study duration.
